Perhaps, he thought by saying MAIN, you meant that it was a widely spoken language that almost everyone knew. Considering you used Main, the only other main language should be the local slang version of the country's official language.

If I said Korean was a main language of Mine, (though that is inaccurate) I would be stating I speak Korean just as well as English if English is THE main language I speak.

Thus meaning yes, technically "same ****" while literally not, which brings out the "different texture" . :/

Anyway....uhm, isn't there a wiki (Japanese) page on Mizushima Hiro? Wouldn't that tell us where he was born and raised and solve this whole thing?
