Then you probably won't enjoy too many pre-Sun shows. While some of those lack in arcs, I look for the way they handle their individual stories and whether there's any character growth. I don't think Sunvulcan really had many interesting individual stories and their characters never seemed to advance, so I do think it was a fairly weak show as far as that goes (and pretty overrated, since Sunvulcan has a lot of supporters).
The head writer, Shouzo Uehara, had been the head writer of sentai from Goranger to Sun, so I'm guessing he was burnt out on ideas (moving on to the metal heroes Gavan to Spielban after Sun).
From what I've seen, Denjiman is pretty cool, though, IMO. Not many arcs, but I think it's a cast of nice, varied characters and actors. And Machiko Soga is enjoying herself much more than she ever seemed to in Sunvulcan. And there's Metalder's Kirihara as her henchman! Some plots are wacky, but they're easy to believe with Soga -- she lends a fairy tale like presence. Vader's not really interested in taking over the world, but just torturing it and its people for their queen's amusement.

Hedrian was always just power hungry. She went from being the Queen of Vader to a lacky for a bunch of androids. And not only does she detest androids, but she was brought back from death by Hellsaturn giving her a machine heart. I didn't enjoy later Sunvulcans, so I could be remembering this wrong, but I seem to remember her becoming increasingly paranoid after she took over Black Magma, not even trusting fellow Vader Amazon Killer, so I think that was the source of her weird dreams.
