Superhuman Samurai Syber Squad coming to DVD

I like this show for some dumb reason -- it falls into the awesomely bad/guilty pleasure slot, though. It's pretty cheap and repetitive, but I think it can be more entertaining than any of Saban's shows. It has more of a sense of humor about itself, and pokes fun at some of the PR cliches that are carryovers from tokusatsu. (Sam's henshin brace being stuck on his arm, which he initially is embarrassed by and tries to hide; Amp's always changing henshin phrase, including the surprising-for-an-American-kids-show "I'll show you mine if you show me yours!") I recently rewatched this show and thought it had a short shelf life, though -- I got bored with it by about the time the idiot surfer showed up and they were recycling some of the Gridman footage.

I kind of liked the cast, though. I remember being surprised at the time that I actually recognized cast members like Matthew Lawrence, the kid from Parker Lewis Can't Lose, and Tim Curry, unlike all of the nobodies Saban gets. (Funnily enough, Lawrence is probably the worst actor of the cast, though.) My favorite character was Malcolm -- Glen Beaudin was good, although he could overdo it with that mysterious pseudo British accent he did. I think the goth, cyberpunk fan take on the character was neat for a show like this. And I think the cast gelled more than it seemed any of the PR casts ever did.

It would be nice if this release had some extras. I'm curious what the Malcolm, Jennifer, Tank and Syd actors are up to now. They've vanished!

Ehhhhhhh, need to correct you on something there

"This was the only Ultraman adaptation we ever got"

-Ultraman: Towards The Future

-Ultraman: The Ultimate Hero/Ultraman Powered

Though to be fair, Towards The Future was a predominately Australian creation

I was referring to the adaptation as replacing Japanese actor with American ones but still using the Japanese fight footage from the original series like power rangers, VR and BBB.

Towards The Future and The Ultimate Hero were originality made Ultraman by there productions team so there didn't use source material from a Japanese show they made there own.

Superhuman Samurai used the footage from Gridman, Gridman has the same characteristics as Ultraman so in a way it is the only Ultraman adaptation we ever had, I mean There production team was name Ultracom so if the show was successful would Tsuburaya let DIC adapt other Ultraman series?

Well, in "theory" they're still adaptations because they're using an interpretation of the Ultraman Type C suit and most of the original kaiju monsters from what I can tell

You'd be happy to know that SHSS is a straight translation of Gridman , so you're fine.

I still think the original opening theme is amazing as ****.

This show has everything: Ultraman, monsters, Super Robots, and Optimus Prime!

Malcolm sided with Kilokhan and did all that horrible **** just because Sam was talking to a girl he liked.

This show was the show that taught me that pussy is serious business.
