Star Blazers - Quest for Iscandar

Nostalgia seems to be hitting me quite a lot lately, because I put my GaoGaiGar watching on the back burner for a while so I could reacquaint myself with another classic--Star Blazers, a.k.a. Space Battleship Yamato.

As of last night, I'm halfway through Quest for Iscandar and The Comet Empire's next in line for viewing. Anybody else here have fond memories of this?

Another cartoon I wish I were around for

When I was in 6th grade, I had a teacher named Mr. Hammond, and he loved 80's cartoons with a passion. Since I was part of an experimental Two-Teacher Class, I spent half of my classtime with him, which included finals. The catch was that instead of taking finals, he brought in Transformers and Star Blazers for the class to watch. Now, I've been a fan of Transformers all of my life, but when I first laid eyes on Star Blazers, I thought it was so cool. The idea of a single human battleship going up against an entire alien armada was so new to me that it completely took me by surprise.

Yes, we did. Nothing on TV now compares with that era.

On another note, I just finished The Comet Empire last night. Now I have to track down The Bolar Wars.

Sure, if I had the money to buy for an overpriced DVD set. Which I don't, unfortunately.

StarBlazers is one of my cherished animes, back when I only know it as a cartoon.

My father even remembers me watching it when I was really little.

There's also a REALLY kickass webcomic on starblazers.com that took 3 years to complete, but it is WELL worth the read!!

Yeah, I saw that. I'll have to check it out.

Also, I should note that what I've been watching is a revamped version called Star Blazers Remastered, done by a group called Village Video Anime. Basically what they did was take the American episodes of Quest For Iscandar and The Comet Empire, and they reinserted everything that was edited out for the US broadcast(character death, more violence and the like) by using R2 DVDs of Space Battleship Yamato.
