And in Ultimate Spider-Man, Gwen was "killed" by Carnage (though not permanently, thankfully her transformation into Carnage and being kept alive is one of the few times evidence exists that Bendis is not entirely the insane hack he has become)

Whoa! I knew she was in the Ultimate version but I haven't been keeping up. They introduced Carnage already, huh. Wow. I'll have to peek at those trades next time I'm at the store.

Carnage was the prolouge to the Ultimate Clone Saga (which is a train-wreck I would NOT recommend on anyone, except maybe the awesome SHEILD/Spider Slayers seige on May Parker's house) where as "Ultimate Venom" was it's prelude. It's one of the last good arcs Bendis wrote for US, so you should pick it up

Actually in the comic books, Gwen Stacy was killed by the Goblin...

Actually, she died because of Spider-Man's webbing breaking her neck.

Ultimate Venom story was pretty naff though. Carnage arc was pretty good.
