Sony Presents Madame Web

Disney has managed to wrangle back each piece of the Marvel Universe the company sold off to cover its debts in the 90s…with the exception of Spider-Man. The movie rights to that character and everything relating to him solidly belong to Sony Pictures, and the only way Disney can have Spidey in Avengers movies is if they negotiate. In the meantime, Sony is free to make movies out of any Spider-Man character, no matter how obscure or unknown. And they will.

This feels like a financial suicide for Sony. Madame Web is not a popular character. In the comics, she's just an old lady in a wheelchair or throne who gives people some prediction of their future. But because she's part of the Spider-Man universe, Sony thinks that they can milk this character and make her young and hot in hopes that it will be a box office success. They never learned their lessons from Morbius.

Is that the girl from Fifty Shades of Grey? I hope this movie will help her escape that softcore porn image.

Madame Web on February 14? I was hoping for more Spidey action, not some mystical showdown. Cassandra and Ezekiel might have powers, but can we get back to the friendly neighborhood Spider-Man?
