Sony discontinues its 60GB PS3!!

HAHAHAHAHA! I laugh at you SONY! First you gotta get those units off the shelf before you can run out of stock!

Even with a 100 dollar drop in price and 5 free Bluray DVD's of my choice for rebate, still DOES NOT tempt me into their evil whims.

I want either 150-200 dollar price drop before I even consider it. Andwith ZERO good games out there that peak my interest, beh.

Sony is really hurting themself with this system. its powerful but everyone still cant afford it. even with the price cut, there aint a must-have game to get yet. i'm waiting for Devil May Cry 4 but i'm not even gonna purchase the system.

I'd still rather drop $600 on a decently engineered console with games like Heavenly Sword, Lair and Killzone 2 coming to it (some of the best graphics I've ever seen) than going the cheap route and end up with a system which is technically poorly engineered and probably outdated sooner than the PS3.

I guess in the US cheap sells better than quality, while in Europe quality is more important than the price. Oh well, to each his own I guess.

Sony really needs to shut it's executives up. They're the ones causing all these horrendous PR blunders.

However, I don't get why everyone is freaking out about this. Sony's official statement is "We won't be making any further announcements regarding our PS3 model hardware strategy in North America until the 60GB model is exhausted and market conditions are evaluated."

What this says to me is they're closing out the 60gb inventory and will be replacing it with the cheaper-to-produce 80gb (no Emotion Engine chip). Once the 60gb's are gone I will be absolutely shocked if the price of the 80gb does not drop to $499.99, (probably without the Motorstorm pack-in) just in time for the holiday season. If it doesn't, well that means Sony actually has gone insane, but I don't think they're that stupid.

That was the arguement used by people for promoting the PS2 over The gamecube, despite the fact that the Cube was the superior system techniclly speaking. in fact in terms of technology the dreamcast was superiro to the PS2, but people always called the Cube the Low end system because of it's price. And yet Sony was constantly paying to get the rights to nintendo exclusives... like Viewtiful Joe and RE4. which is why I laugh at thier "We don't buy exclusives" comment during E3.

Well don't know what kind of job you got or what your finances are like, but when you got a console that costs almost as much as a basic PC, you kind of question a companies logic on how they hire marketing employees.

Why dear god, WHY would I wanna drop down 600 dollars for something I can do on my existing computer with more hardrive space, more freedom of creativity, and customize to my lil hearts content?
I can go and spend 200 dollars LESS and buy a 360 that's almost no different visual and power wise in the long run from a PS3....and I got a larger amount of good games to chose from, even those "exclusives" that SONY was so happy about then went like "WTF?! Assassin Creed on 360?! AWWW SNAP!"

I think this sums up what SONY is after in life.

Like Hikaru said, I have no idea what you're job is but I don't have the income to spend 600 dollars on a video game system. So yeah, price does matter. Some of us have to work for what we have, pay for gas, food, utilities, rent, school, whatever else pops up. Surprisingly, after that, it doesn't really leave much money to spend over half a grand on a gaming system which barely has any games to make it worth the investment at this point.

To be honest, having a Wii60 is all you need for gaming and it's cheaper. When the PS3 drops down to 400 then I'll think about getting it. But that's still a lot of money.

Eh.... I would say extremely wrong though not for the reasons you think.

The US has MANY more entertainment options to spend that dollar on. We have more consumers and more choices for them to spend their dollars on. I'm almost certain for example, our PC gaming market is larger then either Europe or Japan's.

Uhm, you have to work for your money and I don't? I work a full time time job too , you know. But I just prefer to save up the extra cash and spend it on a more reliable and future-proof system than on the 360. My PS2 lasted me 5 years, so if I take 5 years for the PS3; that means the cost comes to 600/5 = 120 USD per year in average. It's a matter of choice in the end. I won't upgrade my PC's video card and I'll buy a few Wii games less a year, and that'll make up for the extra cost.

I also won't have to buy a seperate Bluray player, which I consider an added bonus and online gaming is free, so no hidden costs there. If you add it all up, considering the game I want to play and the side costs (online gaming, BR player, etc), I'm actually cheaper off with the PS3. But like I said it's all a matter of choice and depends on what your likes or dislikes are.

More power to you Alf, I'm not trying to demean your choice of console. It's all good whatever system you go with. If I had the money I would definitely get a PS3.
