Sony cutting 80GB PS3 price to $400 in September, ditching backwards compatibility

Only thing stopping me from buying a 360 is all these problems I've been hearing. I don't want my console to die on me a month after owning it.

Besides, I'll admit that PS3's a lot more fun then I thought it'd be

One of the main selling point for the PS3 for me was actually from an importers standpoint. Guaranteed region free games? Hell yeah! Bring on the SRWs and A.C.E.s Being able to play imports without having to mod a console or go through swap disks is a great thing. And i agree, the system is a lot more fun than it seems at first.

Eh, I think the doing away with backwards-compatability is far from 'shafting' the system. Rather than catering to the crowd that's too lazy to have more than one console hooked up at a time, cater to the people who buy the system to play actual PS3 games. I've played my friend's PS3 a lot here in the past month or so, and I've had a ton of fun with it. Enough to make me seriously consider buying one this year.

The fact that it doubles as a Bluray player is awesome too, those are region free, which means I can import films and play them guaranteed. I like that idea.

I love the excuses ps3 fans give for sony shafting their own systems.

And I love 360 fanboys who deny their fanboyism but bash ps3 fans for being fans. :anime:

Ever since Ive got my PS3, Ive only played PS2 or PS1 games very rarely. The only PS1 Ive tried was MGS1 and King of Fighters 99, and even that I was testing out the remote play with my PSP. Backwards compatibility is a great function in the system, but not having it doesnt exactly mean the system is useless. There are a lot of PS3 games out there that can be played, despite what many say. and like I said before, Im sure the function will make a comeback.

I'm hardly a PS3 fan, at least no more so than i am a fan of every other system i own. I'm a GAMING fan, and I support any company that lets me continue to enjoy one of the most expensive but beloved hobbies I'll ever have.

Removing features from a console doesn't break it. Having consoles that break randomly for no reason other than someone daring to do what the console was designed to do breaks a system. Not that I have anything against my 360. It's gotten more use than my ps3 or wii combined, and hasn't given me even a bit of trouble aside from overheating once when i left dead rising on pause for a weekend. But its not without it's flaws, nothing is.

See that thing in your mouth? It's your foot. I love pretty much all systems. The 2nd greatest console ever IMO is the ps2 with it's great RPG line up, but IMO the PS3 is a failure. Call me a 360 fanboy if you want. Sure I like it better than the ps3, but there are a lot more games on the 360 that I want to play. There was NO reason for sony to remove the backwards compatibility. And prove me wrong? Go around to the sony fan forums or any place with sony fans. Today you will get one of these things including but not limited to:

How dare square put FF13 on a non sony console **** THEM.

The Nintendo conference is ass

the 360 conference is ass

the sony conference is the best thing ever in a million years it can't be beat.

who needs backward compatibility with the wonderful line up of ps3 exclusives. like Final Fantasy.... Like MGS4 yeah MGS4.

Cutting production costs in order to lower prices is a reason.

In fact, it's a reason thats existed in pretty much every industry since the industrial revolution began.

If someone is only going to own one console, it's not Sony's responsibility to accommodate them. They lowered the prices of the PS2 to make them more appealing to new gamers, but it also makes them cheap enough that if you need to replace your old ps2 with a new one because the laser is dying out, it's not going to kill your reserves doing it. Yes, they took out BC.. but they don't need BC, b/c unlike Microsoft, Sony's 6th gen system is still readily available. It's a luxury, but its hardly a necessity. Some people seem to need to latch onto those things to give them reasons to complain.

They're not all Region free.. but a good deal of them are. Fortunately though this time aroudn NA is sharing the same region codes as asia, so importing is a go either way for me.

Nintendo's conference really was ass. They didn't get anything done except that stupid woman going on about 'beating her boss' or 'cute puppies'.

Anyway, that's way off subject. >_>;
