Some curious questiuons regarding message boards..

Black Ranger RX

I don't have low self esteem.
OK..

Most recently I've joined a board that's been advertized here, and it's pretty much on the not very active side. There are forums that are pretty empty, there are board members who join but don't post..

This happened quite a lot when people create new message boards. Even I had a few message boards that didn't last very long. I used to have a board called "Rising Sun Forums", which at the time wasn't just about Tokusatsu but pretty much about anything Japanese, JPop, Anime, Sushi, you name it.. but It's been pretty inactive and I've been quite fed up with it, so I shut it down.

I'm also guilty of joining boards and not posting much on them, but even so I have some curious questions..

1 - When you create a message board, what do you want to do?
A: Create an online portal where friends all over the world can discuss stuff we love, in our case Tokusatsu?
B: To gain fame and have LOADS of people join your board?

2 - Almost the same question as number 1, when you join this message board do you join because..
A: You love Tokusatsu and you want to share your interest and make friends with other Tokusatsu fans all over the world?
B: You join because you want people to notice you. And so you try to be funny and post something stupid like "LOL EPIC FAIL!!" but end up looking like an epic fail yourself. Either that or you clicmk that "Post Reply" button but don't know what to say and just post "LOL!!"?

3 - Why do you want to gain fame and have people notice you? Is it because you are a bored teenager who can't get a girlfriend, and your parents won't let you go out to late night parties with friends, and you're locked up in your bedroom bored like crazy and even playing a video game or watching Tokusatsu is not enough to cure your boredom?

4 - What exactly makes a message board so successful? Does it need to have a domain name that you have to pay for (EG: www.thisguystokusatsuboard.com), in order for it to stop looking like some cheap ass site that some 12 year old made for free?

5 - Do fancy graphics/skins really make a difference?

6 - So, what is it that makes Henshin Justice Unlimited so successful? Is it because Keith JC Hayward created it? So why do we love him so much? Is it because he met loads of celebrities such as the cast of Power Rangers and Mark Musashi, and we're jealous of him? Or is it because he was from Japan Hero, a website most of us Tokusatsu fans were probably familiar with at the time?

7 - Which is a better place to discuss Tokusatsu?
A: Here or other boards (please name a specific one)?
B: Facebook or similar sites?
C: YouTube?
D: Real life (specifically Japan or anywhere where Tokusatsu was popular)?

..........................I'll give away one BIG hint.

When you start... start with as few forums as possible. Biggest flaw of new places is that with no members or conversation they start with 17 different forums.

Don't do that.

I'm going to answer a few of your questions..
Btw, you spelt questions wrong.

Neither, even if I did want fame and fortune, it would be because I am Kira.

What Keith said, start with as few forums as possible, slowly building up.
A key to a successful forum is patience, and enough advertisment..

5 - Do fancy graphics/skins really make a difference?
Depends...

Bolding the answers:

1 - When you create a message board, what do you want to do?
A: Create an online portal where friends all over the world can discuss stuff we love, in our case Tokusatsu?

2 - Almost the same question as number 1, when you join this message board do you join because..
A: You love Tokusatsu and you want to share your interest and make friends with other Tokusatsu fans all over the world?
C: When I joined this messageboard, it was because I am friends with Keith and Derek, and I wanted to support Keith.

That is the wrong attitude to have online. Unfortunately, hardly anybody realizes this.

4 - What exactly makes a message board so successful? Does it need to have a domain name that you have to pay for (EG: www.thisguystokusatsuboard.com), in order for it to stop looking like some cheap ass site that some 12 year old made for free?
Traffic and plenty of discussion. There is a mix that is hard to describe. Having good members that respect one another and no nerfherders helps.

5 - Do fancy graphics/skins really make a difference?
Nah.

6 - So, what is it that makes Henshin Justice Unlimited so successful? Is it because Keith JC Hayward created it? So why do we love him so much? Because Keith is committed to the board, and because he has a good staff. There is really good discussion on here, and the members are respectful of one another. People can shoot the you-know-what, and joke around, but the air of the board remains the same. Intelligent discussion is key when you have a discussion board (imagine that).

7 - Which is a better place to discuss Tokusatsu?
A: Here

Amen, times a kabillion. My other favorite messageboard has all kinds of different discussion, in the same forum.
