A less derogatory word, though, is "mania" (pronounced "MA nee ah"). When I talked with Gainax co-founder Hiroaki Inoue, he called me a "tokusatsu no mania," and of course, he meant it in a good way. I guess "mania" is more acceptable than "otaku" in Japan . . .

I swear, he's only attacking this subject because he can slap the label "Japan" on it. They do the same crap in American cartoons. Big deal.

Is it just me, or do I feel like this guy is just attacking a particular culture, just like how overly religious people attack homosexuals just because they appear "wrong" and "foreign"?

And otaku isn't even the right terminology. Otaku simply means someone obsessive in a particular field. Hell, people who collect bugs are called Otaku, along with people who like trains.

Anyone who reads this crap and takes whatever they say literally is a complete moron. Research people, and not on msnbc.
