Silent Hill the Movie

Well, just got back. I've got some really mixed feelings about this one. The storyline, monster designs, cinematography, all are top notch. But that ending. WOW. Made no sense whatsoever. I'll prolly have to go back and play the first game again to understand. Pyramid head was awesome, and I can definitely see some Hellraiser-inspired imagery here.

Overall, 7.0 /10

I'm not satisfied with the rating you gave it considering you are the Horror King (or as Bolt says Whore King). But I'll wait until you see it again to see if that number changes.

Just got back, overall I was pretty happy on how it turned out. The nightmare sequences were awesome, and the part with pyramid head did not dissapoint. I've heard people were unhappy about the ending, but I thought it fit quite well. 8.5/10, damn fine movie.:buttrock:

This movie is getting no love from critics. One called it 'Uwe Boll's Hellraiser'. OUCH. That was below the belt.

But the showing i went to late last nite was PACKED like I havent seen in a long time. Hopefully a good sign.

And after thinking about it for a while, I have decided to give this flick 8 out of 10. The ending makes more sense the more I think about it.

I'm inclined to agree with sandman here.... The whole movie was pretty incredible.... up to the ending which made no sense.

And after all Chris's fuss... he ended up not doing anything of consequence.

Pyramidhead was awesome, but he would've been cooler if he had been put up more as the top killer than the brief cameo.

[hide]So, what the ****? Why is the mother still trapped in limbo???? That just made no sense. Had they fixed the ending this movie would've gotten much better reviews I think, but the ending totally undoes the rest of the film which was pretty awesome.[/hide]

I think the ending was fine.
I played a little bit of Silent Hill 2 and I know that the characters aren't the same, but if they did go and make a Silent Hill 2 movie, it would be perfect.
In SH2 the game, I remember that the main character's dead wife calls him to a place called silent hill... now with the ending of the SH 1 movie, I think it would be a good idea if they switched around the characters again. His wife and/or daughter can call him to silent hill and that's where his journey begins.

I would be very happy with that and complain much less. Poor Chris, after all his work and detectiving.... comes up with a big fat nothing by the end of the movie.

I kinda felt they might be dead, but.... why would their bodies disappear from the normal plain of existence?

And if they were dead.... why would their souls be trapped in limbo? And if they were trapped in limbo so that the mother could go through her ordeal, find her daughter and bring justice to the doers of evil... wouldn't they be released once the deed was done?

It's fiction, so anything I make up could be real, but I'm never a fan of these ambigous endings. To me when a director does the, "I thought I'd leave it up to the audience to figure out what happened" I see it as an excuse to say, "****.. man... kinda wrote myself into a corner here. I don't know how to end it."

And that gets a wagging finger from me.

This guy's no n00b to storytelling and directing. Of anyone, he could've sat down and mapped a more comprehensive and satisfying ending that brings closure to the work the characters put into their journey.

Loved it all, up to the end.

Felt Pyramidhead wasn't used enough as well. His presence in the film was powerful, so it would've been nice if we'd seen him deal out more death, pain and destruction on a little be more of a regular basis, especially kills that pertained to the story. Like if he had been the dark hand of justice and a machine of destruction... a direct extension of the little girl's will instead of just using lots of barbed wire.

Far from wholly bad, but not well tied up in the end.
