Should I Read the "Fullmetal Alchemist" Manga or Watch the Anime First?

[Justin J]

I'm considering getting into "Fullmetal Alchemist," but I'm unsure whether to start with the manga or the anime adaption. I've heard great things about both, but I know they have some differences, especially with "Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood." What do you all recommend for a first-time experience? Is one significantly better than the other for getting the full story?

If you're just jumping into "Fullmetal Alchemist," I'd recommend starting with the manga. It has a more complete story, especially since it was finished before "Brotherhood" was made. The themes and character development really shine in the manga, and you get to see the author's original vision without the anime's deviations. However, "Brotherhood" is a fantastic adaptation with stunning animation and some great moments, so it's definitely worth checking out later!

What draws you to the series, specific themes or character arcs? I'm curious about what you're hoping to get out of it!
