Satoru has failed..

Black Ranger RX

I don't have low self esteem.
I've just been thinking..

The most recent Red Rangers in Sentai were a bit goofy compared to the mature Red Rangers in the 1980's..

Satoru was surposed to act more like a more mature 80's like Red Ranger, unlike Yousuke, Ban and Kai, however, after watching quite alot of Boukenger I've realised Satoru seems to be getting picked on and laughed at alot by his teammates who are surposed to be under his command.. he's like a leader who acts serious but noone takes him seriously.

So, who reckons Satoru has failed to bring back the reputation of the Red Ranger like he used to be in the 80's?

EDIT: Damn again, this was surposed to be a poll!!

He's mature enough compared to his 2 predecessors Kai and Ban who were both very impulsive. He's got that "natural leadership" vibe about him. Masumi didn't take that long to accept him as the boss even though he openly went against Akashi in ep 1. Plus Akashi also managed to get Eiji to become part of the team so yeah, I think he's pretty relaible as a "mature" leader.

I don't think Satoru's failed at all. Compared to Yousuke, Ban, and Kai, at least his team respects him as their leader in the long run from start to finish. I remember the past three reds taking more abuse from their respective teammates than Satoru has thus far.

Heh, compared to the likes of Ban and Kai he's practically Kirby-era Captain America.

While he's not quite in that 80's style of leader Sentai Reds I think Satoru is a welcome change of pace from the firey-spirited but not very bright Reds we've been getting for such a long time. Which is not a bad arcetype by itself but I prefer something more along the lines of Kenta/MegaRed or Tatsuya/TimeRed to Ban and Kai which just struck me as gratingly loud, thickheaded, and obnoxious.

I think Satoru consistantly shows himself as a capable leader who can pull his team together but he's also not totally stoic or infallible. There's also just a marked difference in tone (and tons more wacky) to modern sentai than compared to 80's sentai and not even a mighty Red is gonna be invunerable to that.

Also, from what I remember, Satoru was never slated as being exactly like ChangeDragon, Red Mask or any of those guys, just that he'd be a lot more like them than the likes of Ban and Kai. To that end, he hasn't 'failed' at all.

Okay fine, maybe some funny **** does happen to him eg him catching fire etc. But in the end, they still respect him and his orders. For the most recent eps, the team looks to him for guidance. I think he's got it down pat.

Every leader has their bad days. Every leader's entitled to one. The problem that sets Ban and Kai apart from Satoru is that they act to immature for their role as leader most of the time. That's why people can forgive Satoru's one moment of bad luck. Because he maintains a sense of maturity 24/7

Well yeah, the important difference is that funny/weird stuff does happen to him, but he doesn't create those situations himself.

With Satoru, it's almost 'Clowns to to the left of me, jokers to the right....' but with Kai and Ban, they are the 'jokers'.
