Revolution gets a new name....

Nintendo is the ultimate system. Almost 90% of households are setup like this....

Playstation fans = PS2 + Gamecube.
XBox fans = Xbox/X360 + Gamecube.
Gamecube fans = Gamecube + one of the two, prolly PS2.

Everyone has a gameboy. EVERYONE, GBC, GBA, DS(tho its not a gameboy) at least one of those.

In the future, It will be the same.

I know a few hardcore guys who get only Xbox and Playstation. But still cant deny the nintendo DS for its greatness.

And on the topic of Names and better names.

I personally think the name wud of been great as... Nintendo::Reverse
As a reverse compatible system. Or maybe that cud be the name of the System/Menu itself for the Reverse Compatible System.

In all honesty, it shouldn't effect much of anything. It's just fun for the other console fans. Nintendo will be around to stay, it's the last gaming company I'd expect to disppear.

Damn, I only have the PS2. Oh well, I'm always used to being the the "10%" things. lol, same deal with the handheld. I have a PSP, not one of Nintendo's handhelds.

As for the name, I always liked Revolution. *shrugs* I just got used to it though. It'd be like them changing the Playstation to some other name... Or renaming the Xbox. Even if the new names were "cool" it'd just feel wrong.

granted I'm not the biggest fan of the name, but it's just a name people. It's not gonna affect the games one bit. Remember when they were developing the game cube it started out under the name Dolphin before the change.

And if you don't want to say the name just point at it and say "I want that one please" when you go buy one

I'm still not sure about this, It's been known as the revo for a while. That's pretty much how I know it. This wii stuff is gonna take some getting used too.

*Thinks back to the days Where people complain when the Ultra 64 became known as the Nintendo 64, or the days When the Dolphin became the GameCube, now when the Revolution becomes the Wii, and thinks of all the times people hated the names at first.

As for Nintendo going away, that always makes me laugh. Nintendo as a company was around for almost 90 years before they started making Video Games, they survived the Yakuza, WWII, and Nokia. They'll survive ANYTHING Sony or Microsoft throws at them.

I can see why they went with the name. I don't particularly like it, but that's not really going to influence my decision whether or not to buy one.

That was my exact thought when I first read the news on IGN. I still think it's a stupid name. But holy hell will it ever bring the hysteria to our gamer hearts. So many jokes can be made that it will become bigger than chuck norris.

I was laughing my ass off at the IGN editor reactions. Here's a few quotes of my favorites:

Nintendo, I'm afraid you've been had. The new name for the Revolution (which shall always remain "Revolution" in my heart) is such an egregious example of convoluted, over-priced marketing work that I imagine Big N executives must have been kept in a brightly-colored, hermetically-sealed playroom and fed narcotic-laced smoothies for weeks while Evil Marketing Firm sold them on this name.

The official press release gives the game away: note the straining effort to justify why, in a single fey syllable, Nintendo now evokes smallness and urine: "Wii sounds like 'we,' which emphasizes the console is for everyone ... Wii has a distinctive 'ii' spelling that symbolizes both the unique controllers and the image of people playing it."

Uh. Yes. That is -- wait. All sense and reason tell me otherwise, but ... we're paying these guys an awful lot of money and ... maybe, yes, I'm squinting and -- oh, I haven't slept in a long time -- yes, that's it ... it's the sound of us. No, it's the sound of fun! Children. Flowers. I want ice cream. Send out the press release!

Fellow gamers, no need to convolute and buy into this. In comparison, a little purple box looks like a Doberman pincer of virile gaming domination.

I got into my car, and I hit the gas, and I was like "WIIIIIIIIIII," and then I hit a bump and my tires rubbed, and I was like "WIIIIIIIIIII," then I got my oil changed and they said "It'll be thirty dollars," and I was like "WIIIIIIIIIII," then I got into work and sat down at my computer and listened to a Queen song, and I was like "WIIIIIIIIIII," then I heard that Nintendo Revolution is now the Nintendo Wii, and I was like... "Oh."

When I've had a long day at work, there's nothing I enjoy more than coming home to play with my Wii. Sitting on the couch, relaxing, and working my Wii with both hands is just great. Sometimes I get so into it I just waste the whole night until my wrists get so tired I can barely jerk my Wii-mote.

It's even better when my girlfriend comes over and plays with my Wii too. She's pretty good at games, but she'll never be able to match my skill at playing with my Wii. Once she even brought a friend over and they both played with my Wii, it was great!

My Wii is pretty much my favorite thing in the world. If I ever lost my Wii, I think I would probably just kill myself. It's smart to be really careful with your Wii if you let a lot of strangers play with it. I'm pretty jealous of Bozon and Matt now, they're going to get paid to play with their Wiis all day long!

Seriously, any last shred of cool that Nintendo had was just thrown out the window. I mean, the whole style, look, and feel of the Revolution, with it's Mac-like color schemes, simplicity, and glowing blue light was very cool. But man, watch the Wii commercial. Not cool at all. Dammit Nintendo. You're shooting yourself in the foot.

...and just when i was starting to believe in Nintendo again...

Wii is a pretty funny name, but its not like Nintendo is the only company in the history of games to have a goofy name for their console.

In all seriousness, I really hope Nintendo licenses the song "We Love You" by the Rolling Stones for their commercials.

The editors of IGN Wii had more optimistic opinions but optimistic opinions arent as hilarious as rants though.
