Region 2 Japan 60 Gig PS3 question.

Ok, so about a few months ago, i was really fortunate to purchase a barely used Playstation 3 60 gig Japan model for $500 (I use it for all my PS1 and PS2 import, especially Hurricanger and Pepsiman !! ). Anyway, i was browsing around today on eBay and noticed they had the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Season 1 on DVD. When i looked into it more, i noticed it's a European release and has a Region 2 encoding. I also am aware that Japan uses Region 2 as well. That being the case, if i purcahse the DVDs, would my Japan PS3 be able to play it, or it specificially for Europe Region 2 ? I know, it sounds stupid; however, i didn't want to shell out the cash if there was a difference between Europe Region 2 and Japan Region 2. Thanks.

Sidenote: Yes, i love Zyuranger as well, but i'd wanted MMPR for nostalgia. :anime:

Euro R2 is PAL format , might be out of luck. I can't answer for sure if the PS3 would convert on-the-fly PAL2NTSC . My guess would be no though.

Your JP PS3 is marked NTSC-J, and it's R2 for DVD's, so it won't work. the Blu Rays, however, will still work, due to Japan and the US sharing the same region coding (Region A).

That sucks. I didn't think PAL and NTSC made a difference when it came to DVDs, I thought it just relied on the region code. :\ Thanks guys.

P.S. I'm guessing MMPR isn't coming to the US anytime soon ? :\

The ps3 and MMPR dvds are the same region so it should at least play. I don't know if it would play properly but the DVDs being PAL shouldn't be a problem if you're using HDMI.

Maybe you can download a PAL dvd somewhere and see if it works. If it does then the MMPR dvds probably will as well.

Actually, you just made me think of an idea. I'll take one of the DVDs I already own, convert it to a Region 2 Pal iso and see if it plays. And yep, I'm using HDMI. I'll post back if it works.
