R.I.P. Blockbuster

I have no problem with Blockbuster dying because services like Netflix are better, it's cheaper and quicker. My only disappointment is that they are taking away a lot of jobs

RIP Blockbuster. Thanks for the memories. I will always remember being anxious to rent the latest new movie.

And hoping like hell that they'd have copies left for you to rent, right?

Speaking of memories, one of my best ones was when they gave people an opportunity to rent Star Fox Assault before it went on sale. I drove around to many stores for a copy to rent, and I finally found one at this store. I even finished it before I had to take it back.

Also, does anybody remember how Blockbuster sponsored a video game championship tournament in 1994? I did a search for something about it and this is one thing I came up with.

That's why I ended up using Netflix a lot more than Blockbuster. I once made a list of all the movies I wanted to rent, and then I realized that the list was long, and wondered how long it would take me to get to see them. I avoided using Netflix because I wanted to do things the old fashioned way. Then I eventually caved and used Netflix, and saw that I could knock out a lot of titles with them, and save myself a bit of money. Still though, I wasn't above going to Blockbuster, and I still would sometimes, but mostly when they were having special money-saving deals.

I also tried Blockbuster By Mail once, and ended up not sticking with it because they weren't as fast as Netflix. They do have titles that Netflix doesn't seem to offer though, so there was once a time where I put my Netflix account on hold so I could use Blockbuster By Mail to rent those titles. After I was finished with them, I ended my membership, but I'd still sometimes go back to them if they were having a money-saving special, and I'd use them along with Netflix to help knock out more titles faster. I also started up a Blockbuster account again a few months ago, but now this is the last hurrah.

Where would this be? I saw someone from Connecticut say that there are no more there, and I did a search and he seems to be right.
Wisconsin. But like I said, the second closed about a year and a half ago. I don't remember the time gap between the closing of the first one, and the opening of the second one.

It's still around in my country (Mexico), and I've never seen them in any danger of going out of business so far. They even have their own rip-off of Gamespot called Gamerush.

Which part of Mexico? I lived in DF and never saw any.

In any case, I remember a local CVS had a Blockbuster kiosk for the longest time. Then it was gone, then in its places was a Redbox kiosk. I've never tried Netflix, but I have a friend who swears by it, saying they have the most obscure movies you can think of or find.

So between Redbox and Netflix, I'm not too surprised.

I wonder what happens if it's not returned?

South. I might have been speaking a bit too broadly, but I really think this is across the whole country. In my city, when Blockbuster came, it put the local video store out of business.

I was in my friend's neighborhood yesterday, and this mom & pop-owned video store that's a few blocks from him is actually still active. Go figure.
