Power Rangers Vortex Shield, Episode 6, Post 2/3
-Episodes split into multiple posts to ease stress on servers.

The Rangers back off a bit, holding their ground cautiously.

THE RIPPER
You should run. Don't you know what I am? Who I am?

TRACE
You're a Spirit, you're a threat to the city and you're going down!

He slaps a hand to his Transponder, holding his hand out before it.

TRACE (CON'T)
Snap Shooter!

The Snap Shooter warps into his hand in Camera mode. He grabs the lens in the other hand and flips it into Gun Mode in one deft move, spinning around to hide his movements, kneeling on a knee & firing on the monster. It leans a shoulder out of the way. The blast hits a tree, blasting it apart and causing it to fall on the Spirit. It lazily flicks it's saw hand back and easily slashes the branches away, chuckling humorlessly. Andrew places a hand on Trace's shoulder as he stands back up, stunned.

ANDREW
Maybe we should think about this a little better.

TRACE
Agreed.

Everyone, keeping their eyes on The Ripper the entire time, begins backing off towards the river and open ground.

EXT. SLATE CREEK, WALKWAY- DAY

Everett, Teryn & Ryker drive by. Ryker jumps between them from the back seat, pointing at the Black VS SUV parked where the walkway used to be.

RYKER
Wait, wait, wait! That, there!

TERYN
What does that have to do with anything?

RYKER
What, do you think I'm an idiot?

TERYN
Yes!

EVERETT
Meeeh?

Ryker rolls his eyes.

RYKER
Look, those cars are everywhere whenever there's an attack. I caught on to that a long time ago, no doubt Andrew, Trace & Ashlyn did too- if this is here and this visible, they've got to be around here somewhere!

EVERETT
Well... there was that huge crash a minute ago... which looks like it was the walkway falling into the river.

TERYN
Oh my... really!?!

EVERETT
Yeah. Totally. Look.

He pulls over. The three leap out and run to the edge, looking down at the damage below.

EVERETT
See, I was right.

TERYN
Yeah. No kidding.

Ryker practically leaps out into space, pointing off downriver a bit.

RYKER
Look! There! The Rangers!

Everett stops him from falling as they look on in surprise. The Rangers back out into the fjorded water, followed shortly after by The Ripper. The three are absolutely shocked, immediately dropping down to make themselves harder to spot.

TERYN
What is that?

EVERETT
Do you... really need to know?

Ryker shrugs off his backpack and pulls out a digital camera.

RYKER
That, my friends... is so going up on the blog! Take that!

He snaps a photo.

RYKER (con't)
(To himself)
Deserters!

TERYN
Ugh! Get over yourself!

Ryker shrugs, setting up for another photo.

RYKER
I could say the same thing to you.

EXT. SLATE CREEK, RIVER- DAY

The Rangers are still trying to maintain their distance while The Ripper continues advancing.

ANDREW
Ok. Obvious advantages-

TRACE
The giant laser saw thing.

ANDREW
Exactly. So, what we need is a way to remove the advantage. Any ideas?

ASHLYN
Nothing as of yet.

TRACE
Uh-uh.

CHIDRA
What? Er, I think you ought to know better than to ask me.

THE RIPPER
Oh, well then. If you're stuck, here's a jolt!

He sends four more laser saws, knocking them flipping to the ground. They take it ok, but are still left groaning as they try to gather their senses. The Ripper continues forward at a leisurely pace.

THE RIPPER
You know, life is even better this way than the last! I feel everything! I'm a part of everything! Every sight... taste... sm- hang on...

He inhales deeply, turning slowly to face the walkway with a deep chuckle.

THE RIPPER
Something smells good.

EXT. SLATE CREEK, WALKWAY- DAY

The three drop even lower. Ryker takes one more shot before realizing that the monster is staring at them. He jumps back out of sight with a creeped out groan.

EXT. SLATE CREEK, RIVER- DAY

CHIDRA
What's he staring at?

ANDREW
Ryker?

ASHLYN
And.. Teryn... and Everett.

TRACE
What are they doing here?

ANDREW
I don't know, but I think now's our chance!

He uses his arms to push himself straight up off the ground, flipping through the air as he slaps a hand to his transponder.

ANDREW
Vortex Fire RC-01!

The Ripper looks back with a "huh?" as Andrew fires on him. He covers his face with his arms and takes a few steps back as explosions rain around him. Once they cease, he drops his arms heavily with a hmph. He begins backing away.

THE RIPPER
Until later, Rangers. It appears I have other things to attend. Destroying you can wait!

He rushes off, laughing. Andrew tries to rush forward.

ANDREW
Hey, wait a minute!

Chidra, Trace and Ashlyn rush up behind him. Trace grabs his shoulder.

TRACE
Wait a minute, think about that last line for a minute.

Andrew does, putting things together rather quickly.

ANDREW
Oh man. Crap! Come on, guys! We need to get back to HQ- now!

ASHLYN
I jog down here all the time- the path back up should be this way!

ANDREW
Right, Chidra, take an alternative route.

CHIDRA
What! Why?

ANDREW
How am I going to explain you to them?

He points back up. Chidra follows his gaze, then nods grumpily.

CHIDRA
Alright. You made your stupid point.

They follow her across the river and into the trees.

EXT. SLATE CREEK, WALKWAY- DAY

They exhale as they cease hearing fighting below and sit up. Teryn slaps Ryker's shoulder.

RYKER
Ow!

TERYN
Why do your plans keep almost getting me killed?

Ryker splutters for a moment, then just shrugs. They stand to leave when they hear rustling in the trees. Ryker leaps, spinning back around in some strange adrenaline rush, then doesn't seem to know what to do and just stands there. Teryn takes a martial art stance and Everett stands by calmly, ready to protect the others if he has to. They're relieved to find Andrew, Trace & Ashlyn rush out of the trees. The three pause awkwardly, surprised to find Teryn, Everett & Ryker still here.

RYKER
There you guys are! And man, do I have a bone to pick!

ANDREW
(confused and annoyed)
A- about what?

RYKER
This whole Ranger chasing thing- when were you going to let me in on the loop?

TRACE
Ryker, we're not-

RYKER
Don't even say it! Don't lie to me! I mean, look at yourselves- you've got the whole Ranger fanboy thing going on! You're all wearing their colors and everything! Classic geek demographic pulling ploy!

The three look down at themselves self consciously.

RYKER
Ugh! I knew it! You guys! You-

EVERETT
Er, If I can... cut into whatever this is, over here. We were all kind of worried about you, so... we kinda, sorta stalked you. But, you know, we did find you here, and all.

TERYN
Look, just... please tell me Ryker doesn't get to be right, I mean seriously!

RYKER
Hey!

TERYN
Ryker, shut up, I'm talking-

ANDREW
Ok, look, guys. We're going to have to finish this later.

The three try to push past them. Ryker jumps in.

RYKER
And there you go again! Always running off when we try to-

ASHLYN
Ryker! That's enough, ok?

RYKER
Oh, whoop-de-doo, let me guess; it's for my own good? You're trying to protect me? I've heard it all before and I don't need to hear it again! What makes you guys better than me?

TRACE
It's not about that... but, seriously- we have to go.

RYKER
Yeah. Fine. Go do whatever. But don't think for a second that I'll forget any of this!

The three Rangers exchange strained glances, then rush back to the car. Ryker is looking in the opposite direction, brooding as the three pile into the Black SUV. However, Everett & Teryn do notice and share a confused look. The three are gone when Ryker turns around.

RYKER
Hey! Guys! Where'd the SUV go? I wanted to get a shot of those suits!

Teryn & Everett share another glance.

EVERETT
Yeah, well... you're friends kind of... took it.

RYKER
Are you kidding me? They stole the car? Why the heck didn't I think of that?

He walks off, equally annoyed at himself now.

TERYN
You think they stole it?

EVERETT
I highly doubt it.

TERYN
You think Ryker's full of crap?

EVERETT
If he is, which one of them owns that car and why have any of us ever seen it before now?

Teryn makes a strange noise.

TERYN
Ok, let's stop talking about this- you're freaking me out.

The two begin walking back to their own car. Ryker follows closely behind. All the while, The Ripper watches from the trees. His sights are set on Teryn.

THE RIPPER
Sadly, you'll be alone soon enough, my pretty. They always are eventually!

INT. VSHQ, INNOVATION CENTER- DAY

The Rangers and Chidra rush in to find Tamara & Reece already waiting for them.

ANDREW
What do you got?

TAMARA
Ok, we're pretty sure that... you're fighting Jack the Ripper.

THREE RANGERS
Really?

CHIDRA
Yup. The guy is kind of a freak, if you ask me, but-

REECE
Wait a minute you knew about this? Just like you had to have known about the Doctor-

CHIDRA
Ok, in my defense, if I was to name every single soul that I knew of that Damarion had taken, then-

Ashlyn waves her hand through the air, shushing him.

ASHLYN
Hold on a minute. Our friends were there. Everett, Teryn and Ryker- they distracted him. Then he said that he had other things to attend to. I think that's pretty obvious what that means, right?

Reece scoffs.

REECE
Really, those two are still getting in the- wait a minute, who exactly is Everett?

TRACE
Teryn's new boyfriend.

REECE
Oh. Well, congratulations.

TRACE
Thanks.

TAMARA
Well, that should narrow it down quite a bit. Jack the Ripper had a very specific taste of going after promiscuous women.

ASHLYN
So.., Teryn, then? The others are safe?

TAMARA
Unless they get in his way.

Andrew exchanges glances with the others.

ANDREW
Then we'd better get going.

CHIDRA
But- but we just got back! Can't we relax for a minute?

ANDREW
Our friends are in danger! Besides, in your predicament, I'd advise you come.

CHIDRA
And what exactly does that mean?

Andrew just shakes his head. The three Rangers rush out with Chidra shaking his head and mumbling angrily to himself in the back. He looks back to see Reece's suspicious gaze firmly on him and cringes, rushing out after them.

TAMARA
You still don't trust him, huh?

REECE
Neither of them. Do you blame me?

TAMARA
Well, they've been cooperative so far... but, after that night at the lab, and all...

REECE
Exactly.

He begins pacing while Tamara gets back to her computers.

INT. TERYN & ASHLYN'S ROOM- EVENING

We hear water running from the bathroom. It stops, the door opens and Teryn walks out. She walks across the room, doing her own thing, when, suddenly, the window explodes. Teryn dives to the floor, screaming as a laser saw rushes across the room and burns through the opposite wall. She hears sinister laughing coming from outside and whimpers before jumping to her feet and rushing from the room. The laughter chases her the entire way. The Ripper leaps up, through her window, from the ground and begins following her.

INT. VSHQ, HANGAR- DAY

Chidra walks over, sitting down next to Kulgor.

CHIDRA
This whole thing is getting rediculous.

KULGOR
What's the matter, buddy?

CHIDRA
It's like, ok, we're not perfect. I sold my soul to Damarion through Mansfeld's cult, then I got you into it, little bro.

KULGOR
It's ok. I forgive you.

CHIDRA
Yeah, I know you do. But they never will! There Vortex Shield people- puh! Don't they know that if I wanted to, I could level this whole place myself? Don't they know that?

KULGOR
But... but you don't want to, right?

Chidra buries his head in his hands, rubbing them against his face. He sighs.

CHIDRA
Kulgor, old pal... I don't even know anymore.

EXT. SLATE CREEK CAMPUS, HALL- NIGHT

Outside, she runs into Ashlyn and Trace, who stop her. She tries to push past them and keep running while screaming her head off while they try to calm her down.

TRACE
Teryn! Relax, what is it?

TERYN
That... thing! That monster from before! It's after me!
Ashlyn looks past Teryn.

ASHLYN
Oh no.

Trace looks up as well to see The Ripper advancing. Teryn freaks out and hides behind Trace.

ASHLYN
Teryn, I want you to get out of here right-

TERYN
Seriously! You guys are supposed to be the Power Rangers and all! Do something!

The two look back at her sheepishly, shocked.

TRACE
How did you-

TERYN
Everett figured it out this morning- don't worry, we didn't tell Ryker, just- you know! Now!

ASHLYN
Er, right. Ready?

TRACE
Ready!

ASHLYN & TRACE
Vortex Shield, Pass On!

The two morph into the Yellow and Blue Rangers, pulling out their Goggle Daggers and taking stances between The Ripper and Teryn.
ASHLYN
Teryn, I need you to get out of here, right now!

TERYN
B- but-

TRACE
The monster's here! You're safer somewhere else! Trust me!

She nods and runs up the hall. Ashlyn and Trace rush the monster, blocking him as he attempts to follow Teryn.

THE RIPPER
No! Let me go! I must have her!

TRACE
Sheesh, guy! Get a life, why don't you!

Trace and Ashlyn throw him back and engage him in battle. Around the corner, Ryker sits back against the wall, stunned. He goes through a series of pictures of his friends morphing in complete and utter disbelief. Teryn comes around the corner and almost runs him down.

TERYN
Ryker? What are you doing here?

RYKER
Well, I was... uh-

TERYN
Never mind! Let's just get out of here!

RYKER
Yeah, sure.

The two race off.

EXT. SLATE CREEK COLLEGE CAMPUS- NIGHT

Teryn & Ryker rush out the front door of their dorm building. A dark form rushes them from out of the darkness. They scream and jump back as the Red Ranger arrives.

ANDREW
It's ok, I'm one of the good guys! Now, I need you two to-

TERYN
Andrew!

Andrew freezes.

ANDREW
Um... h-how exactly... did you-

RYKER
Yeah, well, um... I think I can safely say I take back everything I said before, I'm so sorry, man.

ANDREW
It's ok, man. No worries. But, we really need to go before.

ENTER
Now, now, Rouge. Didn't anyone ever tell you to share your things?

They all look up as Enter approaches with a contingent of Soulless at his back. Andrew steps between his friends and him.

ANDREW
What are you doing here, Terry?

ENTER
Well, as it seems, this guy just isn't going to be satisfied until he gets what he wants, so until your little Wiccan girlfriend here gets the ax... well, he's just going to be completely useless. Soulless!

He snaps his finger and points to them.

ENTER (CON'T)
Attack en masse. Bring me L' Mademoiselle.

The Soulless take stances with a unified hum of moving mechanics and a vibrating, clicking noise. They charge in. Andrew balls his hands into fists.

ANDREW
Here we go again. Google Dagger!

He slaps a hand to his transponder, warping the weapon in and takes a stance, crouching low while holding it out horizontally before himself. When the Soulless arrive he leaps forward, slashing one across the chest and trapping the second by it's arm, flipping it to the ground. He taps a hand to his transponder again, warping in the Snap Shooter and blasting the Soulless, writhing in agony at his feet. He leaps through the air, bicycle kicking two more and landing on a toe, almost laid back on the ground. He boosts himself to his feet, slashes another and kicks it down. One goes to slash at him and he grabs it by the arm, spinning it around and forcing it to shoot down three of it's allies before shooting it with his gun. Tyker & Teryn look on completely speechless.

RYKER
Ho...ly...

TERYN
Remind me to never get on his bad side.

RYKER
Pretty sure you're already there.

TERYN
Shut up Ryker.

RYKER
Ok.

A black SUV pulls up and a few suits pop out, one of them a blonde woman with a ponytail and sunglases, even though it's night. She waves to Teryn & Ryker.

SUIT 1
You two! This way! We're going to get you out of here!

They begin to respond when a crash sounds from above. Everyone looks up as two windows shatter. Ashlyn & Trace fall out of each, screaming as they fall the two stories. The Ripper walks up to the window in between them and bashes through it, leaping out to the ground and landing in a crouch. He looks up and sees Teryn.

THE RIPPER
Ah! There you are, my Pretty!

Teryn begins screaming. Enter walks up next to the Ripper.

ENTER
Be my guest. But then, we really must get back to the important things. Remember? The task our Lord, Damarion, sent you out to do?

He advances towards Teryn, arm outstretched, barely listening.

THE RIPPER
Oh, but of course. He is... our Master... after all.

ANDREW
Get away from her! Vortex Fire!

He combines his weapons and fires on The Ripper, bringing him to his knees. He holds his injured side and roars angrily.

THE RIPPER
You think you can stop me? I'm already dead!

He leaps up with a grunt and sends a laser saw, which hits Andrew square across the chest and sends him flying with a yell.

TRACE'
Andrew!

ASHLYN
No!

The two scrabble to their feet and run to their friend's aid. The two of the three suits gather Teryn & Ryker, rushing them into the SUV and taking off. The woman stays behind, unsure of what to do, she yells back at them as they drive off.

SUIT 1
Have backup on standby!

SUIT 2
Affirmative!

The Ripper grunts, annoyed, and sends two more laser saw, blasting Trace and Ashlyn as well. The three demorph, laying squirming on the ground as Enter & The Ripper approach confidently. The Soulless surround them, holding them at blaster point to ensure they stay put.

THE RIPPER
Well, you three keep getting in my way. I suppose, you will have to go first after all. For Damarion's sake!

He raises his weapon to strike. The Rangers brace themselves for impact. The Suit looks worried. She pulls out a radio, yelling into it.

SUIT 1
Where is that backup?

TAMARA (OS)
On it's way! Just hold on.

The Ripper does nothing. Enter also goes stiff, staring around wildly.

ETNER
Tell me you feel that too?

THE RIPPER
What is it? Oh no! It can't be!

ENTER
You would know better than I.

INT. VSHQ, INNOVATION CENTER- NIGHT
\
Tamara is rushing around, doing her rounds when an alert goes off. She stops, picking up her tablet and gazing at it strangely. Reece comes over.

REECE
What is it?

TAMARA
That... weird reading. It's back.

REECE
What reading?

TAMARA
The one that's... like a spirit, but.. the polarity of the energy is reversed. it's like an... anit- Spirit.

Reece looks at the screen, his eyes going wide.

REECE
With readings like that, it's more like an Anti- Damarion!

EXT. SLATE CREEK COLLEGE CAMPUS- NIGHT

Enter and The Ripper are still gazing about wildly. The Rangers and the lone suit look on, confused. The Soulless are also confused, as if leaderless. Suddenly, Enter spins around.

ENTER
Look out!

He and The Ripper dive aside as a golden ball of light flies past. Enter rolls to a crouch and rips out his laptop.

THE RIPPER
Let's get out of here!

ENTER
No, no! You're doing good! Stay here, finish the Rangers off- I'll send backup!

He types on the laptop, stands and teleports away.

ANDREW
What's going on?

ASHLYN
Enter? Scared?

TRACE
That's a first.

They watch, fascinated, as the golden ball of light flies over to and converges around the agent, who looks on in confusion. Suddenly, she convulses. He back arches as the golden light flows into her and fills her eyes with light.

ANDREW
No!

TRACE
What is that thing?

The Ripper stands, backing away with a whimper. The light disappears and the suit rights herself, turning to face The Ripper.

THE RIPPER
No, please! Leave me alone! I'll go back, I swear!

SUIT
You will go back. Your Guardian demands it. Your Guardian will see it done.

She begins walking towards The Ripper, fast. He panics.

THE RIPPER
Soulless! Get her! Destroy that thing, before it's too late!

The Soulless attack. She ignores them complete, throwing them about and trashing them without even taking her gaze from The Ripper once. All the while she advances towards him. The last Soulless attacks her. She grabs it's weapon arm, snaps it in half, spins it around to face inward and backhands it, blade first, through the Soulless. It malfunctions and drops, exploding. The Ripper begins sending laser saws at her one after another. She knocks them aside with a glowing gold hand with little regard as to where they fall. The Rangers see the danger and get up, trying to run, but the blasts scatter them like ninepins and send them flying painfully around. The last thing any of them see before they pass out is the suit finally arriving at The Ripper. She roars inhumanly, becoming absorbed in golden light and drops to a crouch, ramming the flat of her hand into The Ripper's sternum. The gold light flows through him and he begins zapping and malfunctioning. They can actually see his soul, screaming in agony every once and a while through the flashes. Finally, a blue portal open above them, enveloping him in light. It gets tainted gold and his soul is sucked up into it. The Rangers pass out, one by one, as his sparking wreckage collapses to the ground and explodes.

INT. DAMARION'S TOWER- NIGHT

Enter stumbles back into the chamber. The tower's energy intensifies and the skull reforms.

DAMARION
Why back so soon, servant?

ENTER
There was a... slight issue.

DAMARION
Where is The Ripper?

ENTER
Well, uh... you see... The Guardian... has finally made it's move.

Damarion is taken aback, then screams in fury, shaking the entire tower. Soulless get thrown about in the fury of the blast and Enter sits there, braced in a crouch against the sheer power.

DAMARION
I want him gone! The Rangers are nothing compared to him!

Enter sits up, trying desperately to catch his breath.

ENTER
That much I've figured out. Must be horrible... being done in by-

DAMARION
Don't even say it. You know what kind of mood I'm in! I will make you suffer if I have to relive that day again!

Enter bows his head. Even he is lost for words.

ENTER
As you wish.

EXT. SLATE CREEK COLLEGE CAMPUS- NIGHT

The Suit stands and walks a few feet, before going stiff and wide eyed. Her eyes roll back into her head and she also collapses to the ground. The golden light rises out of her, coalesces into a ball and flies off into the night. Several black SUVs and a silver suburban pull up. A bunch of suits rush out, yelling back and forth to one another. Everett leaps out of the suburban, seeing the oddly devastating carnage across the lawn.

EVERETT
Oh no! Guys!

He rushes forward to help, but is blocked by suits.

SUIT 3
I'm sorry, sir, but you need to leave!

EVERETT
But, my friends! Just tell me they're ok! Is Teryn ok?

The suits try to take him aside and calm him down. The three Rangers lie passed out and bruised in a field of robot parts, energy burns, smoke and debris.

...While the Rangers reel trying to understand what has happened and whether the Guardian is a friend or foe, Enter & Damarion make a desperate move to remove the threat before it can find and mindlessly destroy them. When the Ranger's get in the way, however, the strangest and, possibly, most disturbing outcome is in store...

Thanks to everyone who's been enjoying this story so far. Unfortunately, I regret to inform you all that I am permanently moving my fic over to Fanfiction.net.

On top of that, they apparently don't allow scripts there anymore, so the entire thing has to be rewritten as an actual story. This, at the least, will allow me to ellaborate more on what I've already done &, maybe add some new scenes, change things up and correct myself where I've gone wrong. I will update when each episode goes up.
