Power Rangers: The Fairbridge Chronicles [Concepts only, but thoughts welcome.]

Love The Darkness. Actually that was one of my lesser inspirations, as you can see from Marisol's surname in Rising Sun. I'd forgotten about that aspect as it's been a long time since I've read it or played the game (never got around to buying the sequel), but I imagine it was probably influencing me a bit on that part.

we're all inspired or influenced by things we've read and seen over the years, so nothing wrong with that.

With this fourth entry, the three previous chapters of the informally titled Fairbridge Chronicles would reach their ultimate climax, paving the way for successive stories to spread out to new worlds.

POWER RANGERS ALL-STARS

XXXXXXXXXX

The Empire of the Whelm were set to rain absolute destruction and terror on the populace of planet Earth. Grossly outmatched, their Zords damaged beyond use and their weapons paling in comparison to the force wielded by their enemies, the Seven Seas Power Rangers were left with no other choice but to take the fight to Emperor Wrachak. They were successful, and the ruins of the imperial flotilla vanished into the void, while the humans turned their attention to restoring their wounded planet. Grace Doubloon led her family and her team back to Dante’s Cove to finally unlock the greatest treasure in the universe.

The power of the ancient gods, the infinite energy of all existence was now at their fingertips. Grace allowed the treasure to be put to good use repairing the Earth. The secret of the treasure was left in the hands of their fellow Power Rangers, who swore to ensure it was used responsibly. Grace then returned to outer space with the Adventurer, joined by her crew, the mother and brother she had been reunited with, and her lover Prince Nimrad. There was still a lot of danger to be found out there, villains to be fought, and most importantly, treasure to be stolen.

Some time later, an old evil returned for one last battle with the forces of good. Ebizak, once fought to have died when his master’s boat sank into the depths of the Sanzu River, accompanied by a restored Shackle and a Fallen warrior, Nokhon DeBonce. They abducted Daichi Kusanagi, and used him in a ritual that saw the Earth’s worst fear realised -- the Dark Lord Zarin was alive again!

Using Daichi’s memories, Zarin headed straight for Dante’s Cove, which had been made the conjoined teams’ central base of operations, and tore it down around the shocked heroes. The ensuing fight was short, as Zarin felled the Rangers like they were nothing, and tapped directly into the treasure, becoming tantamount to a god. The Seven Seas Rangers arrived in time to stop him siphoning the energy completely, but he was able to escape with enough to merge his essence with the heart of the planet. The three teams were helpless.

That was when the intelligence within the treasure’s energy field spoke to them, offering them one last chance to save their world. If five of them volunteered to climb down into the heart of the Earth, they would be granted new powers that were greater than those of the three previous teams combined. While Grace led the resistance on the surface, Sam Waugh, Travis Lovejoy, Ruth Hands, Ringo Kusanagi and Sulla journeyed into the catacombs under Dante’s Cove and into the bowels of the world. Braving life-threatening obstacles, they reached the hidden chamber where Zarin awaited them, earning new, awesome abilities that allowed them to battle Zarin on equal terms. These All-Star Power Rangers eventually forced the Dark Lord out of Daichi’s body and away from the conduits feeding him. His weak, spectral form was flung into the wild energy and destroyed for all time.

The Earth was safe again, but within a year, the Rangers would stand ready to enter the greatest, most decisive battle of their young lives. Get ready, because the best just keeping better in this, the fourth chapter in the grand legend of the Power Rangers!

ALL-STAR POWER RANGERS

“All-Star Rangers, ready! Charge!â€

a1oaxs.png

XXXXXXXXXX

Name: Sam Waugh
Designation: All-Star Red Ranger (previous: Rising Sun Blue Ranger)
Age: 21
Ethnicity: Black British
Appearance: see Rising Sun and Earth Defence entries. Typically seen dressed in a black, leather waistcoat, unbuttoned over a grey hoodie with red trim, a red band on his right wrist emblazoned with black lightning bolt designs, an orange T-shirt, black jogging bottoms with red, vertical stripes down the outer sides, and white trainers. When working with Doctor Zyme he dons a white laboratory coat over a white shirt with a red tie, green trousers and brown boots.
Bio: a member of the original protectors of Fairbridge, Sam fought with the Rising Sun Rangers to vanquish the threat of the Fallen. After the conclusion of the conflict, he continued his education and eventually found work as an intern at the laboratory of Professor Newton Zyme. As Sam matured, the fear and anxiety he once felt due to his homosexuality dissipated and he became more comfortable with his identity, although he is still prone to paranoia-induced emotional outbursts that can lead to making rash decisions, such as when he revealed his secret to the professor when it seemed he would lose his position at the lab, which he saw as a vital component towards his efforts to earn his full degree. When morphed, Sam quickly proves he has learned much from his time as a Ranger, possessing both the skill needed to defeat his opponents and the compassion to keep the rest of his team alive.
Items: Lumitrix, Primeval Lumitrix, Primotor Armour
Weapons: Scope Sabre, Laserflex, Dumatron, Control Cannon
Zords: Velocikat, Accelator

Name: Travis Lovejoy
Designation: All-Star Blue Ranger (previous: Starlight Knight)
Age: 18
Ethnicity: Caucasian
Appearance: see Earth Defence entry. Typically seen dressed in a dark blue polo neck jumper with the word, “champion,†embroidered cursively across the left side of his chest in gold, over a white-and-light blue striped shirt, black trousers, dark brown derby shoes, dark red gloves with silver knuckle-caps, and mirrored aviator sunglasses to hide his nystagmus.
Bio: when Travis arrived from Australia, high off the success of his winning the Australasian Ranger King Championship, he brought with him a spirit of harsh competition that drove off or upset many, and cemented his hostile rivalry with then-Blue Ranger Oliver Nelson. That fact has not changed. Travis is still sarcastic, acidic, irritable, and most of all hates losing. The only difference is that these days his insults are meant in the sincerest possible way. He has stopped blaming others for his failures, but the wall he erected between himself and the rest of the world remains. His friends strive to break it down to reach the human behind it, but they may find that all his anger, once externally projected, has turned inwards, and he may be even more disturbed than he was before. Travis has not allowed his card-playing skills to flounder, but his ambitions now include pursuing a career as a graphic artist and game designer.
Items: Lumitrix, Primeval Lumitrix, Primotor Armour
Weapons: Scope Sabre, Laserflex, Thunder Sword, Titanium Cestus
Zords: Orangutank

Name: Ruth Hands
Designation: All-Star Yellow Ranger (previous: Seven Seas Yellow Ranger)
Age: 15
Ethnicity: Caucasian
Appearance: see Seven Seas entry. Typically seen dressed in a yellow top with baggy sleeves and covered in apparently random black designs all over, a black choker with a yellow gemstone set in the middle, an army green peaked cap with various, colourful badges pinned to it, a tightly rolled white bandanna with yellow polka dots around her neck, frayed denim shorts, a yellow beaded bracelet around her right wrist, white stockings, and black field boots covered in personal graffiti.
Bio: though the youngest human member of the new Power Rangers, Ruth continues to put herself in the role of everyone’s favourite sister, though realises that, with all her team-mates being older than her, she may be able to let loose and act her age now and again. Not often, mind you. Somebody has to keep the stooges in one piece somehow. Between Sam’s tendency to over-think matters in order to preserve everybody and Travis’ self-loathing, Ruth believes it falls to her, Ringo and Sulla to sort out matters of strategy and careful planning, though even this has its limits as one is clearly out of his mind and the other thinks only with pure, cold logic. She has yet to make peace with her estranged family, and her dreams have become haunted by the face of her mother. She knows in her heart that something involving her is about to happen, but is too unnerved to speak out.
Items: Lumitrix, Primeval Lumitrix, Primotor Armour
Weapons: Scope Sabre, Laserflex, Phylax Stingers
Zords: Rabbicopter, Amphibianaut

Name: Ringo Kusanagi
Designation: All-Star Gold Ranger (previous: Rising Sun Ronin Ranger)
Age: 21
Ethnicity: Japanese
Appearance: see Rising Sun-through-Seven Seas entries. He has since grown a small, black moustache. Typically seen dressed in a dark blue hooded jacket with gold flames up the front and a white beetle motif on the reverse, unzipped over a black vest, fingerless black faux leather gloves with small, horn-like protrusions above the knuckles, dark blue three-quarter-length shorts with gold trim and jagged hem, fastened by a studded black belt, and black boots with white toe-caps and heels.
Bio: Ringo has been with the Power Rangers in one form or another since they were established, originally as one of their number and later as a member of their support. He is their best swordsman by far, and one of their most inventive and resourceful warriors, but his obsession with theatrics and being the centre of the world’s attention still plagues him whenever he morphs for battle. Having grown bored with working at Wexler’s, Ringo is often found working in a new profession every other week, and continues to train his body to peak fitness. He has set his sights on becoming a world-class martial artist by entering a high-profile fighting tournament sponsored by a major sporting goods company, but his first priority will always be to protect the Earth and its people from evil. Ringo personally thought up the unique names for each of the Mechanizords, to the amusement and chagrin of his friends.
Items: Lensphone, Primeval Lumitrix, Primotor Armour
Weapons: Mandiblade, Herculator
Zords: Scarabane

Name: Sulla
Designation: All-Star Silver Ranger
Appearance: identical to Metal-A of the Agent in Goseiger. When moving around in the vicinity of humans, she will disguise her mechanical features with various disguises including large shirts, coats and woollen hats.
Bio: the newest member of the team, having never actually held a position as a Ranger until now. Sulla began her existence as the synthetic daughter of the villainous robot Radius, and later repaired to support the Seven Seas Rangers in the quest for the Idols. Her assimilation of human emotions has been a slow and difficult sequence of events, and she still processes things in a characteristically mechanical way, but over time and with help, she has started finding spontaneous reactions easier to deal with. She fears ending up like Nausea, whose death had a strong, negative effect on her, and so holds onto her human companions to avoid sharing her fate. She spends most of her time at headquarters, where she recharges her systems, but also holds different part-time jobs in order to better her social abilities, with mixed results.
Items: Lensphone, Primeval Lumitrix, Primotor Armour
Weapons: Mandiblade, Cyber Antlers
Zords: Tekwind

Five-way morphing sequence.
The five young heroes stand before a background of flowing, many-coloured particles. Rotating, coloured projections of a Talisman, a Ranger King Card and an Idol pass over each of them, forming respectively coloured wireframes that disperse to reveal their suits and helmets, sans visors. FLASH! They are now the ALL-STAR POWER RANGERS.

ARSENAL

XXXXXXXXXX

Lumitrix: the Red, Blue and Yellow Rangers’ transformation device. Worn on the left wrist, the Lumitrix allows the user to call upon their armour by turning a dial, and speaking the command, “All-Stars, Power On!†Like the previous devices, it acts as a long-range communicator, and can uniquely be used to analyse materials, as the power of the Earth flowing through them allows the Rangers to know the chemical composition of all Earthly things. It is a key component to controlling their Mechanizords.

Lensphone: the Gold and Silver Rangers’ transformation device. It acts almost identically to the Lumitrexes with a more conventional mobile ’phone-like appearance, however it can also be switched to Pistol Mode once the user has donned their armour. The transformation call, as with the Lumitrexes, is, “All-Stars, Power On!â€

Scope Sabre: a short-sword carried by the Red, Blue and Yellow Rangers. The Scope Sabre is usually carried disguised as a pair of hyper-intense telescopic binoculars.

Laserflex: a ray-gun carried by the Red, Blue and Yellow Rangers. The Laserflex is usually carried disguised as a highly advanced camera with various modes of sight, including x-ray and infra-red. When combined with the user’s Scope Sabre, it assumes Hi-Range Mode.

Dumatron: the Red Ranger’s personal transport, the Dumatron is equipped with a sophisticated onboard computer that allows the rider to pinpoint targets with greater ease, and is armed with twin, side-mounted launchers for mobile combat situations. It forms part of the Velocikat’s cockpit systems and is deployed when an enemy enters a path too narrow for the larger Mechanizord to follow.

Note on the Dumatron.
This motorcycle is based on the vehicular mode of Cheeda Nick in Go-Busters. Its name derives from the Swahili word for, “cheetah.â€

Mandiblade: the primary weapon of the Gold and Silver Rangers, as well as the means to control their Mechanizords, for which they are converted to forms resembling steering wheels.

Primeval Lumitrix: a wrist-worn device that allows the Rangers to call upon a respective animal spirit to form Primotor Armour with the spoken command, “Let's Motor!†It can be safely assumed that, like much of the team’s other special equipment, the Primeval Lumitrixes are powered by a merger of the Heart of Hachiman, Battlizer Staves and Fire Idols utilised by the previous Rangers.

Primotor Armour: a specialised, exo-skeletal suit activated using the Primeval Lumitrixes, the Primotor imbues the wearer with personal force-shield generators and greater physical prowess than ever before, plus an arsenal of individual weapons and abilities beyond their normal capabilities. They represent the Power Rangers at their most formidable, well above the level of the previous power-ups utilised by the past teams. The Primotor consists of a cuirass, spaulders, vambraces, greaves and helmet piping.

The Red Ranger’s armour grants him superhuman speed and the ability to conjure a highly concentrated wave of heat from his body. It equips him with the Control Cannon, an attaché-like device that can be transformed into a double-handed firearm and combined with his Scope Sabre for Max Range Mode, or be used to pilot Accelator as an attachable control mechanism.

The Blue Ranger’s armour dramatically enhances his strength and dexterity by increasing his density, allowing him to smash solid objects apart and causing enemy weapons to shatter harmlessly against his body, as well as control the density of certain objects in battle. It grants him the use of the Thunder Sword, a double-handed weapon that projects a broad blade of glowing energy, and the Titanium Cestus, a large gauntlet that delivers energised punches.

The Yellow Ranger’s armour uses rocket augmentations on her boots and belt to enhance her agility and jump ceiling. It also provides her with the Phylax Stingers, a pair of wrist-mounted devices that shoot poisoned darts to paralyse targets from a distance, or unfold two lethal claws each for close-range combat. The rockets themselves can also be used as improvised weaponry, blasting enemies and carrying her out of range before they can retaliate.

The Gold Ranger’s armour comes with the addition of wings for sustained flight, but their most damaging effect is the deafening sonic vibrations they emit, which can bring adversaries to their knees. It also comes equipped with the Herculator, a long, narrow rifle based on a tanegashima (matchlock rifle) that launches explosive solar bolts.

The Silver Ranger’s armour emit electronic signals that scramble robotic opponents’ sensors using potent illusions, leaving them in a confused state and vulnerable to further attacks. A powerful enough signal will create a pulse that disables their systems. It equips her with the Cyber Antlers, two curved, serrated swords based on a stag beetle’s horns, which can be used individually or attached together at their bases.

Five-Star Striker: a weapon forged by uniting the Control Cannon in Max Range Mode with the hilt of the Thunder Sword, the Phylax Stingers, the Herculator and the Cyber Antlers. The Five-Star Striker shoots a beam of concentrated energy that tears through monsters and disperses their molecules in a blinding ball of light and fire.

ZORDS

XXXXXXXXXX

A fusion of the organic and technological, the Mechanizords are the All-Star Rangers’ all-powerful battle machines, combining the metal bodies of the previous Zords with the essences of unstoppable beasts. They are able to transform between vehicular Machine Mode and Animal Mode in a split-second; Blue Ranger’s Orangutank assumes the shape of a lorry and a primate, Yellow Ranger’s Rabbicopter a helicopter and a rabbit, and Silver Ranger’s Tekwind a fighter-’plane and a stag beetle. The Red Ranger’s Velocikat, a racing car and cheetah, and Gold Ranger’s Scarabane, a crane and scarab beetle, each possess a third Warrior Mode. The Mechanizords are stored in various secret hangars littered around Fairbridge.

Meganimal: the fusion of the Velocikat, Orangutank and Rabbicopter Mechanizords. It is far bulkier than the primary Megazords of past teams, and lacks their usual speed and agility, but it is able to sustain massive amounts of punishment in the field of battle. It is armed with the Barbaric Blade and the Spinning Shield, which is generated from the helicopter rotors mounted on its left forearm.

The Amphibianaut Mechanizord, controlled by the Yellow Ranger, can shift between the form of a submersible in Machine Mode and a frog in Animal Mode. It replaces the Rabbicopter in the Meganimal combination sequence to grant it Deep Dive Power, armed with twin turbine weapons mounted over its hands and the ability to operate when submerged.

Megasect: the fusion of the Scarabane and Tekwind Mechanizords. Designed to engage its adversaries with firepower rather than melee weapons, its arsenal includes the Beetle Blaster rifle, Carapace Cannon embedded in its chest, and the Stag Shield mounted on its left arm, which has also been augmented by powerful pincers to stab or crush any enemies who come too close.

All-Star Megazord: the fusion of all five core Mechanizords, the All-Star Megazord is a veritable walking fortress on close par with the Rising Sun Ultrazord, being almost impervious to attacks from lesser enemies. It wields the Power Leylance, an enormous pole-weapon which can pierce through dimensional barriers by channelling the energies of the Earth itself into a single point of light at its tip.

The Accelator Mechanizord, controlled by the Red Ranger, first appeared from nowhere to aid the Rangers in battle with a Negazord, only to turn on and attack them the second the enemy was destroyed. It was revealed to have been an experiment to allow Daichi back into the field, as he had grown restless commanding their operations from behind a desk, but without his powers the Zord had gone out of control and manifested the jealousy that had been building since Sam’s ascension to leader status. Only after the two made their peace were they able to bring the rogue robot to heel. It can change into one of three different modes; its Machine Mode is a motorised tricycle, while its Animal Mode is a lion, either of which can later be ridden by Velocikat in Warrior Mode. Its own Warrior Mode uses a spear and a shield, made from the lion’s head. It replaces the Velocikat in the Meganimal combination sequence to grant it City Sentinel Power, armed with the regular version’s artillery save for a new, modified variation of the Barbaric Blade and the Lion Laser emitted from its chest-panel.

Accela-Star Megazord: once the Accelator, Orangutank, Rabbicopter, Scarabane and Tekwind are brought together, they transform into this mighty engine of warfare. It was necessitated after Velocikat was trapped inside a pocket dimension and forced to fight a stream of Negazord opponents, leaving it heavily damaged and unable to function with the rest of the Mechanizords.

THE FALLEN

XXXXXXXXXX

Name: Zarin
Appearance:
--as human: see Daichi Kusanagi’s Rising Sun entry.
--as Ranger: identical to Gedou Shinken Red from Goseiger vs. Shinkenger.
--as monster: identical to Buredoran of Chimatsuri from Goseiger vs. Shinkenger.
Bio: the Dark Lord Zarin had left an apparently irremovable stain upon the planet Earth. Despite being destroyed by the Rising Sun Rangers, his blood mixed with toxic chemicals to birth the Mutant Hoards, and his sole surviving follower, the sorcerer Ebizak, had been watching the war against the Empire of the Whelm from the dark safety of the Netherworld. Zarin was resurrected by Ebizak, and this time wore the body of his arch-enemy, former Red Ranger Daichi Kusanagi. Using his new host’s memories, Zarin discovered the location of Dante’s Cove and invaded, transforming into a corrupted version of the Red Ranger and cutting down any and all resistance before making it to the chamber where the god-like powers of the greatest treasure in the universe resided. Upon absorbing a portion of the energy, he transformed once again into a new, demonic body meshing elements of his and that of his stolen human shape. The process was interrupted, but Zarin laughed at their efforts and plunged himself deep into the Earth to begin a ritual intended to make him and the planet one. He was followed by Sam, Travis, Ruth, Ringo and Sulla, who braved incredible dangers to reach him, and engaged him in one final duel to the death, with the fate of all life on the surface hanging in the balance. Zarin dominated them initially, but when the Rangers absorbed the same Earthly energies as him and attained their All-Star powers, Zarin was forced out of Daichi. The unleashed energy became wild, and Zarin, now vulnerable in his spectral state, was thrown into it and vaporised instantly.

Name: Ebizak
Bio: Zarin’s cowardly, scheming court wizard, Ebizak was responsible for locating and rebuilding Shackle, and used the machine to let him onto the bridge of the Whelm flagship, where he claimed the Emperor’s imperial seal for his own. The seal would prove to be a vital component in the ritual to resurrect Zarin within Daichi Kusanagi. As always, Ebizak remained out of the way for much of the fight that ensued shortly afterwards, though he did engage in a short duel with some of the younger Rangers. He was killed immediately after Zarin, as his magic stave shattered and left him defenceless to the Earth Defence team’s Cosmic Crusher and Grace wielding the Man-o’-Warrior Armour.

OTHER VILLAINS

XXXXXXXXXX

Name: Paradyne
Bio: some time after the All-Star Rangers destroyed Zarin, the Earth found a new, clean form of reusable power which they called, “omnitrium.†Eventually, this amazing discovery caught the attention of an intelligent computer that called itself Paradyne, who desired to breach the Rangers’ reality and gorge itself on the energy, which would give it the strength to expand across the cosmos and, given time, all dimensions and realities. Manifesting as a crimson skull, the intelligence floats, seemingly impotent, in a pocket world composed of a strange dimensional bubble outside the normal continuum of space and time. It cannot move independently, and so depends on its servants, also known as Operators, to do the legwork for it, but is able to manufacture endless legions of robotic warriors, including the Genocybers and Negazords. Paradyne is undoubtedly deranged, driven only by a desire to absorb world after world into its incomplete body regardless of the loss of life, however it also seems convinced that once this mission is complete, it can return to its original programming, which is the protection and preservation of sentient species.

When the Rangers received a mysterious transmission that allowed them to infiltrate its dimension, the computer fashioned a powerful avatar for itself, which it referred to as its, “Incarnation.†It possessed the power to resurrect defeated robots as digital constructs, and could assimilate information from the Ranger’s weapons to increase its strength. Ringo deduced that the Incarnation was meant to prevent them from reaching the physical hard-drive containing Paradyne’s real brain and memories, and with help from Sulla, fought to keep it busy while Sam, Travis and Ruth searched for the hard-drive, on the way uncovering clues to the origins of Nimda and Hybris. When they reached the secret chamber containing the immense tower that was its true form, the Rangers found it to be the source of the transmission that had led them there; trapped as data inside the tower were the minds of geniuses enslaved for the purpose of endlessly expanding Paradyne and allowing it to propogate throughout the multiverse. The mouthpieces for these gestalt minds were a husband-and-wife couple, Eldaron and Yolene, who pleaded for the Rangers to destroy the hard-drive, freeing their spirits in the process. The Incarnation arrived before this could happen and forced the Rangers away from the tower, but Sam was able to call on the Velocikat and return to the chamber, where he was confronted by Nimda in a unique Epsilon-type Negazord. They then proceeded to battle, apparently to the bitter end, and when Nimda fell, Sam drove his sword into the tower, destroying it. Without its core to support it, the Incarnation ceased to exist.

Its power reduced almost to nil, Paradyne still managed to return from the brink of destruction thanks to a contingency plan thought up by Nimda, who transferred its consciousness onto thirteen data-cards, which could be used to upload it into the bodies of the other Operators, allowing Paradyne to move around in the Rangers’ world and harvest omnitrium of its own volition. Sick and tired of Nimda’s assumed command, Hybris decided to speed up the process by using the Operator Archiveus as a basis for a Zeta-type Negazord, which served as a vessel for Paradyne to absorb her, Nimda and a mass of powerful Negazords, transforming it into the biggest monster the Rangers had ever seen. In this form, Paradyne attacked Fairbridge in person on Christmas Eve. After an arduous battle, the All-Star Rangers succeeded in destroying it forever, its last words being a cry for help to its father, the Master Algorithm. The Rangers were able to celebrate Christmas in peace, but dread lingered in them as a new enemy waited in the wings.

Name: Nimda XV-1.075
Ethnicity: Afro-Asian
Appearance:
--as human: purple eyes, short, spiky, black hair with silver horn curls beneath his ears, his ident number printed under his left eye in white, black fingernails with white circuitry patterns, and a white tattoo on his right shoulder-blade reading, “A.XV.†Typically seen dressed in a pair of white goggles on his forehead with odd, circuitry-like patterns over the lenses, a long, white coat, open over a suit of black-and-silver, lightweight body armour on top of a dark red top and white trousers, fingerless black gloves with silver, studded knuckle-caps, and black boots. In early episodes he dons a white theatrical mask with thick, black rings around the eyes and a # printed on the left cheek and lightning bolts across the forehead.
--as Gold Ranger: identical to Enter in Beet Buster suit.
--as robot: identical to Enter in robot form.
--as Nega Red Ranger: identical to Enter in Dark Red Buster suit.
Bio: the first of Paradyne’s fifteen Operators to appear, and the Rangers’ most determined frequent adversary. Always seen with a special laptop, which he uses in conjunction with data-cards that contain evil computer programs to create robot monsters to carry out Paradyne’s bidding. He is also a master of disguise, Nimda patiently carries out extensive espionage missions before putting his plans to steal omnitrium into effect, but the time-consuming nature of his methods has caused him to chafe under his master’s impatience, despite his fierce loyalty. His cool, calculating, somewhat mocking demeanour belies his meanness and sadistic streak, evidenced by the pleasure he seems to take in drawing out his opponent’s agony, although he is willing to put his self-indulgences aside when efficiency and speed are required. His primary weapons are cable-like tendrils hidden beneath his sleeves, but since scanning information from Ringo he has also been able to rival him in swordsmanship. He has an affinity for the languages, and his speech is peppered with French phrases, which he justifies as, “the nicest sounding.â€

The Rangers discovered the truth behind the birth of the Operators upon searching Paradyne’s dimension. Like his siblings, Nimda was constructed from data gleaned from a number of different individuals, and his amalgamated sentience melded into a techno-organic prototypical host-body to create the completed model. The name of Nimda’s host is not known, but it can be assumed that he remained under Paradyne’s control from day one, as he had been the computer’s ambassador and representative for many years, and may never have been made aware of his own free will at all. During the attack, Nimda revealed his own personal Negazord, the Epsilon-type, and engaged Sam’s Velocikat in a duel, which he lost when his robot exploded, but he escaped death and returned to Earth with thirteen data-cards in his possession, each containing a portion of Paradyne’s consciousness on them. In a bid to reform their dimension, he manipulated the Taburax Kerator so he could take control of his axial divertor, merging the realm of the enigmatic Pain Gods with Paradyne’s.

It was revealed that Nimda did not escape the duel wholly unharmed. His physical body constantly bled data, which was also having adverse effects on his psyche. He turned his agenda to absorbing Sam in order to simultaneously avenge the near-destruction of his dimension and become complete again. He did succeed in temporarily absorbing Ringo and using his Gold Ranger powers, but was thwarted when Sulla took Sam’s Control Cannon and threatened to shoot him, actually going so far as to fire a blast into Ringo’s shoulder to prove her sincerity. Nimda abandoned the endeavour, taunting Sulla by commending her callousness as being, “admirably human.â€

Nimda was absorbed into the Zeta-type Negazord under the control of Hybris, but returned in the form of Nimda-XV-1.076 when the Master Algorithm answered the dying Paradyne’s call. One of the remaining data-cards was fed into his system in order to repair the gaps in his memory and increase his power. Nimda was able to regain his previous personality thanks to a back-up he had encoded into Ringo during the time he had been absorbed into his body. He was still determined to take Sam’s power, and engaged the Red Ranger in a one-on-one duel while Hybris distracted the rest of the team in her insane giant form. The fight drove both combatants to exhaustion, but eventually Sam gained the upper hand, at least until Nimda willingly activated his self-destruct protocol. As the fire from the explosion waned, it was revealed that while his body was indeed destroyed, Nimda had finally managed to enter Sam’s body and take him over completely. He then transformed into what he deemed his perfect state, the Nega Red Ranger, utilising a corrupted version of the Red Ranger powers. He overwhelmed the rest of the team, who were too scared of hurting Sam to fight at their full potential. With nothing to stop him, Nimda returned to his task of gathering omnitrium, only this time using it for himself. He opened a massive gateway into cyberspace, which had become even more chaotic since the merger with the Pain Gods’ dimension, and the Rangers were swallowed into it. There, Nimda seemed to have become unstoppable, forcing the Rangers to retreat to safety in the digital wilderness. Whilst in hiding, Ringo and Sulla concocted a plan to restore Sam, based on the fact that everything in cyberspace was built from information in lieu of organic matter. They fashioned a probe and loaded it into Ringo’s Herculator, allowing him to fire it into Nimda’s body and separate him from Sam.

Nimda retained his Nega Red Ranger powers, however, and continued to battle the team across cyberspace. When Quazo used a tracking program to locate them and forced open another portal, Nimda was bitterly determined to ensure the team remained at his mercy. Sam, although weakened, occupied him long enough for the rest to escape before the portal closed. Nimda and Sam both wound up falling through cyberspace to the control mainframe of the Master Algorithm’s Omega-type Negazord. Cyberspace was blown apart in the ensuing explosion, returning the two Red warriors to Earth. Nimda, whose own form was destroyed prior to absorbing Sam, manifested in a flawed copy of his adversary’s fully human body and took the brunt of the impact when both of them were hurled clear of the explosion. He died at last from his injuries.

Name: Hybris XV-2.948
Ethnicity: Caucasian
Appearance:
--as human: red eyes, long, black hair swooped to the right with two moulded, antennae-like crescents curling upwards on that side, her ident number printed under her left eye in black, black fingernails with white circuitry patterns, and a black tattoo on her right shoulder-blade reading, “A.XV.†Typically seen dressed in a pair of silver sunglasses on her forehead with circuitry patterns over the lenses, a black, sleeveless, hooded coat over a suit of black-and-silver, lightweight body armour on top of a gold top and black trousers, fingerless, elbow-length, black gloves with studded bands around the wrists and short spikes on the knuckles, and black boots. In early episodes dons a white theatrical mask with Egyptian-style lining around the eyes, a {} printed on the right cheek and flames across the forehead.
--as robot: identical to Escape in robot form and upgraded robot forms.
Bio: the second Operator, sent to Earth when Paradyne grew too impatient with Nimda’s failed attempts to harvest the Earth’s omnitrium. Lacking his caution and attention to detail, Hybris prefers to get the job done quickly so she can focus on battering the Rangers into mush. Like Nimda, she is able to create robots using programs, but does so using a tablet computer and digital applications of her own devising. In battle she wields two machine pistols and employs a notably vicious martial arts style. When Hybris first revealed her face to the Rangers, Ruth was horrified to discover that she was the spitting image of her late mother, and along with Nimda even bears the same tattoo on her shoulder, which she reveals is the mark of the Operators. Lena had been the techno-organic prototype designed to house Hybris’ mind, but escaped to the Rangers’ reality and lived as a human. Her death was explained as the aftermath of a confrontation between the two of them, with Hybris wearing a temporary host and assisted by Nimda, but the police were on the scene before they could transport the corpse back to their dimension to be processed properly. When she manifested in the physical world again, Lena’s body was rejuvenated and she escaped from her coffin. The truth caused great distress for Ruth, and has haunted her dreams since.

Following the destruction of the tower and the implementation of the other thirteen Operators as hosts for Paradyne, Hybris finds herself forced to obey the orders of Nimda, who has the knowledge necessary to delete her if she displeases him due to the data-cards he now holds. She later used the Zord-scale Operator Archiveus as a template for her personal Negazord, the Zeta-type. During her subsequent rampage, she turned on Nimda and absorbed his data into the Negazord, and then sacrificed a number of other Negazords to allow Paradyne to return through the Zeta-type, but was absorbed in the process, her usefulness at an end. The body of Lena was disintegrated during the event, causing Ruth to become embittered and vengeful. A copy of her, Hybris XV-2.949, was activated by the Master Algorithm in order to serve him and fed one of the remaining data-cards in order to repair the gaps in her memory and increase her power.

This second Hybris was mentally unbalanced and began absorbing organic life-forms, mostly plants and animals, causing her outward appearance to change frequently. The consequence of her actions was an unstable reaction that made her grow to gigantic size. She was destroyed by the Blue, Yellow, Gold and Silver Rangers using the Accela-Star Megazord and finally laid to rest.

Name: Genocybers
Bio: the measureless legions of footsoldiers commanded by Paradyne and its Operators. Along with their function as warriors and enforcers, Genocybers can pilot Alpha-type Negazords built in their likeness, both for combat and as massive troop transports that deploy drop-pods containing more of them into Earth’s cities from high above.

Name: Kerator
Bio: it was believed that when Krueligan was banished into the dimension of the Pain Gods by the conjoined efforts of Top Sword and the Seven Seas Rangers, the evil cult of the Taburax had been silenced forever. Kerator, however, had other plans. Using a device attached to his chest called the axial divertor, he planned to reopen the dimensional gateway and sacrifice everybody on planet Earth, but the divertor could only work in short bursts due to power constraints, limiting Kerator to sending about a handful of humans through each time. Pursued to Fairbridge by Top Sword and his new deputy, Twink, Kerator separated the pair of them during entry, but was later tracked down by Twink and Ruth, both of whom he hurled into the portal to the Pain Gods’ realm. Top Sword and Sam were able to retrieve them and Kerator fled when faced with the infamous Space Sheriff and all five All-Star Rangers. While in hiding, he encountered Nimda, who proposed an alliance. The next stage was to lure the Rangers by kidnapping Quazo, Professor Nelson and Oliver, all of whom had been working on a way to modify the Rangers’ technology and communications to bypass reality barriers, and sending them, along with the team, back into the other dimension, where the laws of physics were different and allowed Kerator and Nimda to dominate them. Thanks to the scientists, however, the Rangers were able to call upon their weapons and take the fight back into the physical plane, where they and Top Sword slew Kerator. Nimda made his move by placing the body under his control and growing it to giant size, then activated the axial divertor to instantly merge the Pain Gods’ universe and Paradyne’s pocket-dimension into one and begin absorbing the Earth. The plan was thwarted when the All-Star Megazord and Torchwinder destroyed the divertor, along with Kerator.

Name: Spoiler and Skourge
Appearance: identical to Cheeda Nick and Beet J. Stag from Tokumei Sentai Go-Busters.
Bio: Nimda planned to force the Rangers into submission by destroying the team’s morale, and abducted both Sam and Ringo, placing them inside the robotic shells of these twin machines. The Rangers were able to rescue their friends, but Spoiler and Skourge were rebuilt by Hybris to act as her protectors and enforcers once she learned Nimda had gained power over her. Both of them were slain by Nimda when the latter tried to stop Hybris from undermining him with the Zeta-type Negazord.

Name: the Master Algorithm
Appearance: sunken red eyes, a silver, skull-like face, silver fangs, a deep, horizontal black scar across his forehead. Typically seen dressed in a royal blue slouch hat with the brim obscuring his face, a long, white scarf, and a black cloak with a high, stiff collar and gold, chained clasps. Underneath this ensemble, he is identical to Bacchus Gill from Tokumei Sentai Go-Busters vs. Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger: The Movie. His head is usually the exception, but morphs to match the rest of him when he dispenses with his clothing.
Bio: the creator of Paradyne, the Master Algorithm had come to believe that the universe was growing too strained by the weight of its multitude of realities and would soon collapse. He designed Paradyne to absorb all life, energy and information across the universes, after which he planned to select a nexus to serve as the starting point for his ideal of a single omniverse. The release of omnitrium, an event that was wholly unique to the Rangers’ reality, caused him to select it as his nexus, and he referred to it as such for the rest of his campaign there. He was determined to capture Ranger Station in order to harness the omnitrium from its heart, and used improved versions of Nimda and Hybris to serve him. He quickly lost control of the two Operators, as Hybris lost her mind and began assimilating organic matter until she expanded to giant size, and Nimda was able to reawaken his old self and went rogue, sacrificing his body to fully merge himself with the Red Ranger and become the Nega Red Ranger.

The Master Algorithm was nothing if not adaptable, however, and used these two incidents to keep the Rangers’ attention away from him while he made his move on Ranger Station, attacking it with an Omega-type Negazord and an army of Genocybers. He destroyed a large portion of the complex and recalibrated its machinery to draw the omnitrium into the Omega-type, which would serve as the centre of his omniverse. This caused severe disruptions in the fabric of nearby dimensions, including cyberspace, which allowed Quazo to open a portal for the Rangers to escape their battle with Nimda. Nimda himself, along with Sam, ended up in the Omega-type’s mainframe, where their fighting caused extensive damage. The Master escaped the destruction and attempted to flee but was cornered by the Rangers. He pleaded with them to listen, or the entire universe faced grave danger, but it was revealed that the explosion had sent the omnitrium through the temporarily weakened reality distortions, thus stabilising them. His chance to install himself as the omniverse’s godhead lost, the Master prepared to surrender his own life, but Ruth staunchly refused to let him off that easy, citing him as the ultimate reason her late mother had suffered so much. She wanted him imprisoned, so he could be made to endure all the pain he had caused ten-fold. He calmly explained that he was already dead and thus incapable of suffering, then deactivated his armour and reduced himself to a pool of bubbling, blue slime, to the confusion and horror of the Rangers. The slime has since been placed in containment for study.

Name: Sonneillon
Appearance: identical to Waredonaiyer from Tokumei Sentai Go-Busters vs. Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger: The Movie.
Bio: the Lord of the Deeper Netherworld, Sonneillon watched the hatred of the universe from his fiery throne in the city of Pandemonium for centuries. When he felt Ruth’s growing hatred reach a critical point after failing to save her mother from being totally absorbed into the body of Paradyne during the Battle of Christmas Eve, he came to her as a spirit and fed her need for vengeance to the point where she turned her weapons on her friends and hurt Oliver. This act left Ruth so distraught that she deemed herself unfit to be a Ranger, giving into the negative feelings she had spent years protecting her friends from. Having guessed Sonneillon’s true identity, she handed herself over, and the rest of the team followed her into Pandemonium in order to save her. They battled with the monster, and he proved exceedingly powerful, possessing thousands of years of experience as a warrior. The anger he had manifested in so many across the centuries proved to be his undoing, however, as the team’s resilience became frustrating to him, and Ruth came to her senses in time to rally the rage-filled souls of the demon’s other prisoners, who rose up in a great wave and dragged him, kicking and screaming, into a fiery pit.

SUPPORTING CAST

XXXXXXXXXX

As before, the heroes of the previous series would occasionally appear throughout the story, though many of them have officially retired from active Ranger duty, in favour of the much more powerful All-Star team. They will often be called upon to aid at Ranger Station, a complex located in Dante’s Cove and accessible utilising a special wrist-communicator, which are given out only to Rangers and their trusted associates. By contacting Ranger Station, the user can request an “omni-gate,†be opened for them from the nerve centre. The base serves two purposes; 1. to keep a vigilant eye out for threats to the planet Earth, and 2. to research the omnitrium energy that emerged after the greatest treasure in the universe was tapped into.

Name: Daichi Kusanagi
Age: 21
Ethnicity: Japanese
Appearance: see Rising Sun entry. Typically seen dressed in a black suit over a red shirt with his fire kanji printed on the points of his collar in black, a white tie, white gloves, and black boots. He will sometimes don a red, black and gold kamishimo.
Bio: the first Red Ranger and leader of the Rising Sun team, Daichi has retired from the field in order to involve himself in his family’s businesses. He took on his former mentor and retainer, Satoshi Fujimoto, as his partner, and the pair founded Fire Lion Enterprises together. The resultant surge in funds allowed Daichi to arrange the building of Ranger Station in secret at Dante’s Cove, where he now serves as head of the All-Star team’s support crew. When Ebizak returned from obscurity, he had Daichi kidnapped and used as a vessel for the resurrection of Zarin, and while fears that he would somehow find a way to blame himself for the event were confirmed, it seemed to actually strengthen his resolve in the long run. He is uncompromising in the face of danger, stating that while he no longer goes into battle, he is still a Ranger, and responsible for safeguarding the Earth from evil forces. He eventually began to miss going into battle and felt he was getting out of practise, so he created the Accelator to allow him to fight, but he was unable to control it and the Mechanizord turned on its own allies, fuelled by Daichi’s insecurities. Sam confronted him about it and the pair of them thrashed it out until they were tired and calm enough to talk things over. Daichi finally accepted that it was unfair to continue thinking of Sam as just his second, and they became friends again. Daichi led the defence of Ranger Station during the Master Algorithm’s attack, temporarily changing into the forms of both the Red Ranger and Tori Kusanagi due to the fluctuations of reality. He suffered burns from being near an exploding console, but remained standing to inspire his men into action even as their base burnt down around them.

Name: Haruka Fujimoto
Age: 19
Ethnicity: Japanese
Appearance: see Rising Sun entry. Typically seen dressed in a dark blue jacket with red interior and white trim, over a red knee-length dress, tights and light brown boots with green cuffs.
Bio: the younger sister of Satoshi by an incredible gap, which to this day remains a closely guarded secret by both the Fujimoto and Kusanagi families, Haruka was once a prompter who served Daichi at his home. She later became a vessel for his soul when his own body was exhausted by over-using the Heart of Hachiman, during which time she was the first female Red Ranger. Today she is Daichi’s personal assistant at Ranger Station, as well as his close friend and confidante. The time in which Daichi’s soul inhabited her body has left the both of them with a strong spiritual and psychic connection, allowing her to work as a representative for Fire Lion Enterprises by conferring with him unseen by the rest of the world. Later, Haruka was found to be one of five people who discovered an extradimensional item sealed inside a fossil. Haruka fought alongside Daichi and the others during the attack on Ranger Station, but vanished through a fold in reality, along with four others and a large sector of the city.

Name: Satoshi Fujimoto
Age: 57
Ethnicity: Japanese
Appearance: see Rising Sun entry.
Bio: the mentor of the Rising Sun team and Daichi’s life-long retainer and teacher, Satoshi returned to his family in Japan after the defeat of the Fallen armies. He made a fortune with his Ranger King card game, which still holds the distinction of being the most popular game of its kind in the world. His success did not dull his loyalty to the clan, however, and he happily joined forces with Daichi to co-found Fire Lion Enterprises, of which he personally owns 52%. He has expressed great pride in how his students have matured, particularly Sam and Daichi, and makes certain to keep up-to-date with all the latest Ranger-related happenings.

Name: Quazo
Bio: a guardian robot from the far away Protosphere, Quazo came to the planet Earth in the company of the shape-shifting alien Protomorphs, which transformed into power-augmenting Boosters to aid the Earth Defence team against the Mutant Hoard and other evils. He continued to watch over the world from the Earth Defence Megaship and led an unsuccessful resistance against the Empire of the Whelm, during which he failed to save Luminor, who gave his life to protect the crew from the invaders. He was rescued when the Whelm fell and went to work in the command centre at Ranger Station as a surveillance officer, setting himself up at the core of a worldwide security network that keeps a wary eye out for monster activity. During the Master Algorithm’s attack, Quazo was locked in the nerve centre with Oliver and told to find a way to retrieve the Rangers from cyberspace. He succeeded in this endeavour and, while helping to fend off the invaders, told Sulla his feelings for her before he changed into his Warrior Mode for the first time in years.

Name: Professor Artemis Nelson
Age: 47
Ethnicity: Caucasian
Appearance: see Earth Defence entry.
Bio: the father of Oliver, Professor Nelson spent years carrying out vital research into recyclable energy based on the great amounts he theorised must be required to power the Rangers’ arsenal. When the omnitrium was unleashed, his dreams were realised, and he was among those who saw to its proper usage in replacing the wasteful fuels of the past. His time and duties are split between being the chief scientist of Ranger Station’s technical division, where he works alongside his son, and as a scientific consultant at Fire Lion Enterprises, which monopolised the distribution of omnitrium to prevent greedy rivals from using it to their financial advantage. Thanks to Nelson’s ideas, omnitrium powers all of the machines in Fairbridge and several of the surrounding cities. He is dating Ruth’s aunt Leah. Nelson helped to defend Ranger Station during the Master Algorithm’s attack, helping crewmembers to safety outside the complex while his son battled on within.

Name: Oliver Nelson
Age: 18
Ethnicity: Caucasian
Appearance: see Earth Defence entry.
Bio: since retiring as Blue Ranger and leader of the Earth Defence team, Oliver has become his father’s trusted assistant and works in the technical division of Ranger Station, overseeing the maintenance of the weapons, equipment and Mechanizords. His knowledge and experience in the field have been useful on numerous occasions and he is called upon to find solutions to the various anomalies the All-Stars team come across in their missions. When Quazo and a group of kidnapped scientists were trying to find a way to upgrade the transportation system used to send the Rangers their arsenal so they could pass through realities, Oliver filled in the gaps in the formula and allowed the team to summon their weapons in the Pain Gods’ dimension. He was also responsible for creating the Primeval Lumitrixes and the Primotor Armour. Oliver was tasked with helping Quazo open a portal into cyberspace during the Master Algorithm’s attack, and ended up protecting his former mentor from Genocybers until the team returned, after which he went to help Daichi while his father helped the non-combat personnel evacuate.

Name: Doctor Newton Zyme
Age: 51
Ethnicity: Irish
Appearance: see Earth Defence entry.
Bio: Sam’s employer who heads the laboratory at Fairbridge General Hospital, Doctor Zyme became aware of Sam’s secret identity when he began to doubt his dedication to their work. Suffice to say, he was startled by this revelation. He regretted that he could no longer afford to take Sam on as a permanent assistant, but he did promise that there would be a position waiting for him when the war with evil was finally over, and they made up.

Name: Leah Verne
Age: 36
Ethnicity: Caucasian
Appearance: see Seven Seas entry.
Bio: Ruth’s aunt and legal guardian, Leah never revealed the truth that her sister had been adopted after the family found her lost in the rain and with a severe case of amnesia. She witnessed the fight with Hybris that resulted in Lena’s death, and kept the truth a secret in order to protect Ruth, who came to hate her when Hybris returned wearing Lena’s face. She has tried to repair her relationship with her niece, but all of her attempts failed as Ruth was consumed by the need to separate her mother from the monster inhabiting her body. When Hybris was absorbed by Paradyne in the Battle of Christmas Eve and her body destroyed, Ruth finally allowed her aunt near her again, but things can never go back to how they were, and it will take a lot of work on both of their parts before they can truly be a family again.

Name: Space Sheriff 1982, a.k.a. “Top Swordâ€
Age: 58
Ethnicity: Latin American
Appearance: see Seven Seas entry.
Bio: the hero of the Space Sheriffs Department, Top Sword arrived on the planet Earth a second time in pursuit of Kerator, who had stolen a device called the axial divertor and planned to offer up every living thing on the planet to the mysterious Pain Gods. He was accompanied by his new deputy, Twink, to whom he was assigned as official assessment officer, but they were forced apart while entering the planet’s atmosphere. Working together with the All-Star Rangers, he was able to enter the Pain Gods’ dimension and rescue both Twink and Ruth, but later became trapped there after Kerator teamed up with Nimda. He ordered Twink to help him against the Taburax, whose strength was significantly higher than it was in their own reality, but she defied him in order to locate the victims already taken as sacrifices. He returned to reality and helped destroy Kerator for the last time using Torchwinder, after which he returned to outer space and made Twink a full-fledged Space Sheriff, impressed by her actions.

Name: Space Sheriff 2009, a.k.a. “Twinkâ€
Age: 19
Ethnicity: Extra-terrestrial
Appearance: physically identical to Tracey Oei. Typically seen dressed in dark pink, white and silver armour similar to her counterpart Shelly in Tokumei Sentai Go-Busters.
Bio: Top Sword’s deputy, Twink travelled to Earth with him as part of her final assessment, but she got in over her head while they were pursuing Kerator and the two lawmen lost sight of one another. She met with Ruth while trying to find her mentor, but instead they ran into Kerator, who hurled them through his axial divertor’s portal into the realm of the Pain Gods. Forced to run in order to avoid being caught by the unspeakable horrors that lived there, it was Twink’s understanding of the dimension’s unusual physics combined with Ruth’s skills that allowed the girls to survive long enough for their respective leaders to find and rescue them. When Kerator trapped both teams inside the other dimension, Twink took the initiative and searched for the kidnapped sacrifices rather than stand and fight Nimda and Kerator. She parted ways with Ruth as friends after the destruction of Kerator and the divertor, but believed she had failed to pass her assessment. Top Sword surprised her by granting her full Sheriff status for putting the safety of the victims before herself.

Name: Joséphine Navarre, a.k.a. “French Roseâ€
Age: 16
Ethnicity: Caucasian
Appearance: hazel eyes, shoulder-length, straight black hair, slender, flexible build. Typically seen dressed in a pink, bob-cut wig, dark glasses with built-in night vision and infra-red settings, a black cat-suit and a black utility belt full of tools, alternatively high-class fashions and various other wigs, contact lenses and make-up components.
Bio: a talented, “gentlewoman burglar,†who targets those she believes have too much and do not give enough back. She followed the Rangers to the home of a wealthy businessman who had come into the possession of Dabber’s data-card and was demanding ten million dollars for its return. While the team tried to negotiate, eventually calling on Daichi’s help due to his own significant riches, Joséphine broke into the safe and stole the card. She was intercepted by Travis but the fight was interrupted by Dabber. Unaware that he had come from the stolen card, Travis had no choice but to strike a deal with the thief in exchange for the card’s location. She forced him to accompany her to various places, and he believed she was casing them for later thefts. It was revealed later, however, that Joséphine had indeed activated the card and the Operator had become a thief like her, and that she had in fact been attempting to lure it out so she could put things right. The pair helped each other when they finally did locate Dabber, but Joséphine slipped away before she could be turned over to the authorities, leaving Travis a message on his ‘phone that they would meet again soon. Later, Joséphine was found to be one of five people who discovered an extradimensional item sealed inside a fossil, and fell through a fold in reality during the Master Algorithm’s invasion of Ranger Station.

Name: anny “the Manta Ray†Magister
Age: 18
Ethnicity: Jewish American
Appearance: see Earth Defence entry.
Bio: Oliver’s best friend and one-time Earth Defence Green Ranger, Manny recovered from his injuries and went back to training as an Olympic swimmer. He was aware of Oliver’s continued involvement at Ranger Station and he sometimes acted as a scout, keeping an eye out on the streets of Fairbridge and keeping contact with the technical division. Later, Manny was found to be one of five people who discovered an extradimensional item sealed inside a fossil, and fell through a fold in reality during the Master Algorithm’s invasion of Ranger Station.

Using the mysterious Power Cells, they fight together as the Power Rangers Saurian Strikeforce!

(Second version, utilised after Robbie, Skyheart and Cruz have formally joined the team.)

CAPTAIN SKYHEART (V.O.)
On an alien world, in a distant reality, humans and saurians live together in peace, but an evil from the north threatens to annihilate both races by burying them forever under snow and ice. My name is Captain Skyheart, pilot of the city of Heavenfront, and I have gathered five brave teenagers -- Haruka, Al-Mal, Breno, Manny and Joséphine -- along with their newfound friends, to defend their new home from the ruthless King Nord. Using the mysterious Power Cells, we fight together as the Power Rangers Saurian Strikeforce!

The crew of Ranger Station battled desperately to protect their base against the Master Algorithm and his Genocybers, while Nimda transformed himself into the Nega Red Ranger and dragged the All-Star team into cyberspace in order to end their long conflict on his own terms. The Master’s ultimate plan caused ruptures in the fabric of reality to open across the world, and although both villains were eventually defeated and the balance of the universe restored, there still existed severe consequences. Large portions of several cities, along with the people living in them, had vanished from the face of the Earth. Among them were five people who, having previously discovered five alien relics, fell through a dimensional fold and found themselves transported to another world. The missing districts had been merged into a single, new, tiered city called Heavenfront, and floated above the world of Ultima Panterra, inhabited by societies of intelligent, half-saurian entities, a few of whom have migrated to live alongside humans, creating a cultural melting pot.

Several weeks pass, over the course of which the city finds a degree of stability, but it is soon discovered that there exists a threat to both human and saurian life as we know it. The monstrous Northlanders, led by King Nord, have set their evil sights on covering the planet in snow and ice, creating a perfect environment for them but rendering it uninhabitable to most other species. They also seek to use Heavenfront as the seat of power for a new empire. Captain Skyheart, the pilot of the city, locates the five relic-holders and takes them to a hidden room deep inside Heavenfront, where he reveals that the artefacts, which he dubs Power Cells, are a source of fantastic energy and hold the secret to summoning the ancient protectors of the saurians. As the Northlanders begin their campaign to plunge the world into eternal winter, Haruka, Al-Mal, Breno, Manny and Joséphine bring the legacy of the Power Rangers into a new frontier!

Name: Haruka Fujimoto
Designation: Saurian Strikeforce Red Ranger
Age: 19
Ethnicity: Japanese
Appearance: see Rising Sun entry. Typically seen dressed in a dark brown hooded jacket with red interior, dark gold trim and the kanji for fire printed on the back, over a red knee-length dress, black leggings, and dark red boots with blue cuffs.
Bio: Haruka spent her life in the service of the Kusanagi family. She has served its current head, Daichi Kusanagi, first as a masked servant and then as a host-body to his spirit while his own was ailing, during which time she served in part as a temporary Red Ranger, and finally became his personal assistant at Ranger Station. After finding the Tyrannosaurus Power Cell and falling through a fold in the fabric of the universe, she found herself in Heavenfront as the only member of her old household, leaving her void of her former purpose. She was now free to pursue her own life, but became lost and unsure what to do with herself. Over the weeks spent founding some kind of order in the chaotic city, she was able to secure a place behind the counter at a smoothie bar on Genelle Street, and while not to her usual tastes, she is starting to make herself at home there, although a number of customers have noted a persistent level of delicacy and preparation on par with traditional Japanese tea ceremonies, a source of intrigue and exasperation for her new boss. Being thrust into the role of leader of the new Saurian Power Rangers, Haruka combines her mastery of martial arts with what she has learned from Daichi, implementing her own spin on his stern style and recalling the tactics she has observed him take advantage in the past, but as someone more used to taking orders rather than giving them, she turns to Captain Skyheart frequently for guidance. Haruka’s chance to prove exactly how great a warrior and leader she was against Akabake, a samurai-themed Northlander who was kidnapping children in order to hypnotise them to commit acts of violence against innocent people. She condemned the monster, stating that though he wore the armour of a samurai, he would never have the honour or power of them, and upon reciting Daichi’s speech about the seven virtues of bushido, fought him together with an impressed Skyheart and slew him, breaking the spell over the children.

Name: Yigal “Al-Mal” Malik
Designation: Saurian Strikeforce Black Ranger
Age: 17
Ethnicity: Indian
Appearance: brown eyes, short, spiky black hair. Typically seen dressed in a white hoodie, grey vest, black jogging bottoms, and white trainers. Bespectacled.
Bio: known exclusively as Al-Mal to his friends, he originally lived with his family in a town called Stonevale, until he found the black Power Cell inside of a fossil and was displaced to Heavenfront. He quickly made friends with a young stray named Diesel Stringer, and together they formed the Outrunners, a gang of teenagers and younger children who were separated from their families and promised to protect and support each other. Although committed to Diesel and his new family, Al-Mal was selfish, opportunistic and dismissive of both the Rangers and his duty as one of them. He was extremely rude to Breno and Manny and patronising to Haruka and Joséphine. His cutting remarks led to bouts of in-fighting on more than one occasion, and his carelessness was so dangerous that he would even refer to his teammates by their real names when they were in their battle armour. When the three street gangs of Heavenfront were arguing over the fate of a valuable gem called the Garnet of Life, Al-Mal failed to save Diesel from being struck down by the monster Hoodwing, which shattered his feelings of invincibility. With his last words, Diesel told Al-Mal he was a good guy and that he should never give up. Fuelled by anger and sadness, Al-Mal stood up with renewed strength, finally joining the other Rangers to vanquish Hoodwing, then shattered the Garnet of Life to keep it out of evil hands. Although he is still prone to rudeness and a lack of patience, Al-Mal has learned to take his responsibilities as the Black Ranger more seriously, and continues to honour Diesel’s beliefs as leader of the Outrunners. The gang act as his best source of information from across the city, and he looks to both them and the Rangers as his new family. When the spirit of the Meridian Ranger took over Diesel’s corpse, he first believed his friend had somehow survived, and was devastated by the idea that the body was simply being treated like a suit. He often argued with the spirit, but although they never became friends, he learned to tolerate the new Ranger because he was fighting for the same goal as himself.

Name: Breno Castile Pereira, Jr.
Designation: Saurian Strikeforce Blue Ranger
Age: 17
Ethnicity: Brazilian
Appearance: wavy, dark brown hair and goatee, blue eyes. Typically seen dressed in a grey fedora hat with a blue band, a blue windcheater with silver buttons, over an asparagus green T-shirt, khaki shorts, and beige hiking trainers.
Bio: originally a native of Rio de Janeiro, Breno loved sports and often played football with other kids in the streets, with aspirations to one day play professionally and even bring home the World Cup. One day, while travelling with some friends through the Tijuca Forest, he found the blue Power Cell on a stone in the middle of a river and was transported across the dimensions to Heavenfront. After recovering from the initial shock, he made himself useful by offering his services in whatever way he could. As a jack-of-all-trades but master of none, he often cites his father’s experience as whatever job he is called upon to perform, leading to several jokes about Breno Sr.’s true occupation. Although his grasp of English is not perfect, Breno is smart enough to understand what others want with his keen powers of observation. He is best friends with Manny, playing pranks on others together, and is usually the most welcoming of new teammates. One of Breno’s quirks is a penchant for intentionally butchered English and terrible puns, which always elicit rounds of groaning from the others. Breno continued to fulfil his athletic dreams by helping put together Heavenfront’s first football team, of which he was voted as captain.

Name: Manny Magister
Designation: Saurian Strikeforce Green Ranger
Age: 18
Ethnicity: Jewish American
Appearance: see Earth Defence entry. Typically seen dressed in a green Hawaiian shirt, open over a white T-shirt, a black band on his right wrist, a digital watch on his left, Zubaz shorts, and black trainers with green toes and yellow cuffs. Wears a gold, manta ray-shaped pendant on a chain around his neck.
Bio: back on Earth, Manny dreamt of being an Olympic-class swimmer, and served as a one-time Green Ranger for the Earth Defence team in order to save Oliver Nelson. The transformation caused a negative reaction, leaving him in hospital while he recovered from his injuries. Upon his release he quickly went back to training, and achieved renown in a number of nation-wide competitions, placing himself among one of the fastest swimmers in the United States. Arriving on Ultima Panterra, Manny was excited to be a part of the new team, and he was quick to make friends with the native Panterrans, and generally maintains a laid-back air that borders on the blasé. His connection to the water remains as strong as ever, and so spends his free time in the city’s swimming bath when it is mobile, and in the rivers and lakes that dot the land below when it is stationary. Manny exhibited a natural affinity for wielding a Strike Sabre, and with training from both Haruka and Skyheart, and inventing his own variations of their teachings, he has developed into a truly superb and hard-to-predict swordsman.

Name: Joséphine Navarre
Designation: Saurian Strikeforce Pink Ranger
Age: 17
Ethnicity: Caucasian
Appearance: see All-Stars entry. Typically seen dressed in a black vinyl jacket with a furred collar, over a pink scarf, carmine top, black mini-skirt, tights, and pink go-go boots with black trim and heels. Wears sunglasses, glossy pink lipstick and nail varnish, and silver pearl earrings.
Bio: Joséphine was born into a high-class environment, and she enjoyed the luxuries this afforded her, however she found the socialites that her parents consorted with to be irritating and, in some cases, abusive towards those whom they considered to be beneath them. Out of spite, she donned a mask and assumed an alias; “French Rose,” gentlewoman burglar. The Rose’s activities led her to cross paths with the All-Star Rangers on one occasion, when she intended to amend a mistake that potentially put all of Fairbridge at risk. Once the danger had passed, she parted ways with the team on relatively good terms, and was not heard from again until she stole a valuable fossil from a museum of history in another city. This fossil contained the pink Power Cell, and she found herself transported to Ultima Panterra, conveniently accompanied by Du Lac, her butler and bodyguard. Although still a student attending the new Heavenfront High, she has been able to support herself by selling off some of her accumulated trophies on the black market and using the profits to involve herself in trade between the city and the land-bound Panterran settlements. Joséphine is a practical sort who prefers not to do anything unless she gets something out of it in return, however this conflicts with her simultaneous need to do what she knows is the right thing regardless of the reward, a sentiment she has harboured ever since Fairbridge.

Name: Robbie Ramirez
Designation: Saurian Strikeforce Cyan Ranger
Age: 16
Ethnicity: Hispanic
Appearance: dark eyes and long, curtained black hair, slightly pudgy build. Typically seen dressed in a sleeveless, light brown, hooded utility jacket, open over a cyan, long-sleeved shirt with white collar, buttons and cuffs, faded grey trousers, and white-and-green trainers.
Bio: Robbie never really stuck out on Earth. He was a nice, well-meaning guy who suffered through schoolyard problems like bullying with a soft smile and gentle heart. Socially crippled by his chronic shyness, he was deeply fond of animals and spent most of his free time in the woods near his home or aiding at the local animal shelter. After being transported to Ultima Panterra, Robbie was deeply affected by the separation from his family and took to camping on the outskirts of Heavenfront, too shaken with fear to ingrain himself in the strange new community. When Heavenfront landed in a mountain range for a resource-gathering mission, Robbie spotted Joséphine and fell in love with her on sight. He followed after her into the mountains, and following a series of mishaps, they both discovered the Ankylosaurus Saurianzord under the influence of Klot the Unkillable. Joséphine used her recently obtained #19 Tupandactylus Power Cell to help Robbie get inside and fight off the monster’s virus. This act of bravery granted Robbie the #7 Ankylosaurus Power Cell, and he joined the team as the Cyan Ranger. Robbie’s bumbling antics served to both hinder and help the Rangers in their battles, and he would often stumble into a victory before even realising what he had done. He continues to harbour feelings for Joséphine, but decided to put her on a pedestal rather than risk ruining their genuine friendship. After Cruz received a vision of the Meridian Ranger while meditating, Robbie agreed to accompany him in search of the holder of the #10 Brachiosaurus Power Cell. They set out the very next day, leaving the team just before the arrival of its ninth member, Aether Amphitron. Robbie was a victim of the poison from the Krawlaterror plant unleashed by King Nord, and despite being in intense pain, he told Cruz to return to Heavenfront to help the rest of the team. An antidote to the poison was dispensed through the city’s water system, and Robbie was restored to health, allowing him and Cruz to continue their search.

Name: Captain Skyheart
Designation: Saurian Strikeforce Apex Ranger
Ethnicity: Ultima Panterran
Appearance: Skyheart’s body is covered from head-to-foot with dark blue, scaly skin, and his head resembles that of a pteranodon, with a smaller beak and two shorter crests in place of a single, large one. The tip of the foremost crest down to the top part of his beak are patterned with scarlet markings, while the sides of his face and his neck bear white tribal markings. Amber eyes under fierce, white brows. Hands and feet are clawed, so like all Ultima Panterrans does not ordinarily wear shoes. Typically seen dressed in a black uniform to denote his position, with gold trim and white buttons, designed to allow full freedom for his wings and tail.
Bio: one of the first Ultima Panterrans to arrive in Heavenfront, and now its official pilot, answering only to the City Mothers and Fathers themselves. Skyheart is the last surviving member of his tribe, as well as the next in line to become chieftain before they were wiped from the planet by Northlanders. He was privy to much of the history regarding the Power Cells and the ancient, slumbering gods whose essences they contained. He made it his mission to destroy Nord and his armies, and set about collecting the Power Cells. Believing that a position in Heavenfront would allow him to scour greater areas for the relics more quickly, he was surprised to discover five of them had bonded with human teenagers, and immediately brought them together to fight the Northlanders and awaken the guardians. He was initially hesitant to entrust them with such a hefty responsibility, but the group quickly proved themselves worthy in his eyes, and he was content to act as their guide for the time being, training them in the lore of their incredible inheritance, and the ways of Ultima Panterra. He connected especially with Haruka, who sought his wisdom as a means of combatting her own doubts as a leader. Through training and meditation, Skyheart encouraged her growth, and she in turn helped him to better understand the similarities between humans and Ultima Panterrans. As more Power Cells turned up all over Heavenfront and the team expanded, Skyheart began to wonder if the city itself might not be as important to the ultimate fate of both peoples as the Rangers. Eventually, Skyheart began receiving visions of the Pteranodon Saurianzord, and went alone to its resting place at the Dark Mountain, in the heart of his lost homeland, Hajivana. He found Nord enacting a spell to forcefully summon the Pteranodon with a corrupted Power Cell, and although he fought with all his might, he was unable to prevent Nord from achieving his goal. When Nord’s top warrior Kalagha appeared in possession of the Cell and the Zord, it was revealed that the warrior was once Skyheart’s friend and bond-brother, until his obsession with strength turned him into the raging, spite-fuelled beast he had now become. The two battled, once more, the whole time Kalagha howling that he had become greater than a mere Ultima Panterran, and he seemed to dominate the fight, almost killing his opponent while barely reacting to his own injuries. Skyheart, however, emerged triumphant, with a purified Power Cell and the Pteranodon Saurianzord at his command. He is revered as the true leader of the Saurian Power Rangers, but has no qualms about deferring to Haruka.

Name: Cruz Walcott
Designation: Saurian Strikeforce Grey Ranger
Age: 15
Ethnicity: Afro-Caribbean
Appearance: dark eyes and frizzy, black hair. Typically seen dressed in a light grey track-suit jacket with black sleeves, orange stripes across the chest and around the biceps, open over a purple T-shirt, blue jeans, and pale yellow-and-red trainers. Wears a gold chain around his neck.
Bio: Cruz, like many other young people taken to the city of Heavenfront, found himself separated from his family by a distance that was a matter of dimensions instead of miles. After wandering for days, he came across kindly old Mister Wu, a martial arts master who took him under his wing and gave him a home at the small school he had established. Cruz was greatly skilled, but could not overcome his violent urges and use of his fists to solve his problems. Rather than run to safety or to help others, Cruz tried to fight during a Northlander attack and was almost killed, saved only through the intervention of his master, who morphed into the Grey Ranger. Cruz was shamed by his failure and attempted to train to be stronger, but when he saw his teacher and father figure in trouble, he understood what the old man had attempted to teach him, and ran to his rescue, all but ignoring the oncoming waves of enemies in order to save him. He received the #8 Pachycephalosaurus Power Cell and morphed into the Grey Ranger, officially joining the Saurian Strikeforce. Some time later, Cruz came to discover that he would better serve the cause away from the rest of the team, having been overcome by a vision while meditating alone. The vision was of a Ranger in a silver uniform, trapped in a distant place and in need of help, so with Robbie in tow, Cruz set out to retrieve this last Ranger and his Saurianzord. When King Nord’s Krawlaterror plant infested Heavenfront and sprayed poison onto the landscape below, Cruz was able to escape harm and put his quest briefly on hold to help Haruka and Aether form the Pliosaur Megazord for the first time.

Name: Aether Amphitron
Designation: Saurian Strikeforce Purple Ranger
Age: 17
Ethnicity: Ultima Panterran
Appearance: Aether’s body is covered from head-to-foot in dark tan, scaly skin, and her head resembles that of a plesiosaurus, with a smaller snout a neck slightly longer than a human being’s, and dark brown stripes from the base of her skull down to the ends of her limbs and tail. Violet eyes under stencilled, white eyebrows. Hands and feet are clawed and webbed, so like all Ultima Panterrans does not normally wear shoes. Typically seen dressed in a lightweight, white coat with short sleeves and purple interior, open over a brown top that covers her chest but exposes her midriff, an amber, teardrop-shaped gemstone suspended on a silver belly-chain, and black trousers designed to allow full freedom for her tail, fastened by criss-crossing, dark red belts with cursive, purple patterning and brass buckles.
Bio: a proud daughter of the Amphitron people, a tribe of Ultima Panterrans that prospered on the beaches along the coast of the Neitala Sea. Aether arrived in Heavenfront shortly after Cruz and Robbie left to find the Meridian Ranger. Her father, a shaman, had foreseen the beginning of a doomsday prophecy, coinciding with a huge meteor falling into the sea. This meteor contained fragments of a mineral identical to the Garnet of Life, which it attracted like a magnet, and resurrected three Northlanders -- Balomimus, Klot, and Xulub. The Plesiosaurus, patron spirit of the Amphitrons, was the only thing capable of reaching the spot where the meteor had landed, its radiating waves preventing the three monsters from being destroyed again by instantly bringing them back to life each time. Aether was considered worthy of the responsibility, and given the #9 Plesiosaurus Power Cell. She morphed into the Purple Ranger for the first time, and using her newly awakened Saurianzord, utterly destroyed the meteor, although not before Syndrie, Dauberon and Gullywag were able to mine a sizeable chunk of the unique mineral within it for King Nord’s experiments, resulting in the birth of the deadly Krawlaterror plant. The plant dug its roots deep into Heavenfront and threatened to tear the city apart, while its towering avatar brutally attacked the Rangers in their Megazords. Eventually, Aether and Haruka, with help from a briefly returned Cruz, combined their powers to create the Pliosaur Megazord, and annihilated the monster.

Note on Aether and the Amphitrons.
The name of the sea besides which Aether’s people live is a pormanteau of the Hindi words for blue, “nīlā,” and abyss, “rasātala.” The name of her tribe is derived from the goddess Amphitrite, a Nereid and wife of the sea-god Poseidon in Greek folklore.

Name: unknown (referred to initially as “Diesel” by Al-Mal and later as “the spirit”)
Designation: Saurian Strikeforce Meridian Ranger
Ethnicity: Caucasian
Appearance: blue eyes, and short, spiky brown hair and stubble. Initially seen dressed in a dishevelled black funeral suit, he later abandons the jacket, tie and shoes, favouring fingerless white gloves, black boots, a dark red headband with intersecting sharp teeth designs, and a brown-and-green serape he uncovered in a dumpster.
Bio: the first mortal to wield the power of the ancient Saurianzords many centuries ago, this unnamed spectre was a courageous adventurer and a king to many of the Panterran tribes scattered across the planet. He befriended the Brachiosaurus Saurianzord and battled against the forces of evil, until eventually he sacrificed himself to protect the Saurianzords from a terrible fate by channelling their essences into the Power Cells. He was aided in his efforts by a small order of warrior-shamans who acted as his followers. He fell into a kind of living death and the order returned him to the subterranean kingdom of his native tribe, where he was entombed. The order, one-by-one, died out and the kingdom emptied, until only the ghost of the last guardian remained to watch over him. The Rangers brought together the shards of a powerful crystal known as the Meridian Stone, and the spirit of the Meridian Ranger lived once more. He possessed the body of Al-Mal’s deceased friend, Diesel Stringer, who had owned one of the thirteen fragments and thus left an impression on the spirit when he awakened. The resurrection was not popular with the other Rangers, particularly Al-Mal, driving a wedge between the pair of them as the spirit refused to give up its host, which the Black Ranger saw as disrespectful. The spirit exhibited a vengeful and destructive attitude, even willing to kill both Syndrie and Gullywag after they had both defected from the Northlanders. This eventually culminated in his attempting to abandon the rest to fight on his own, but Haruka confronted him outside the city. He attacked her mercilessly, revealing in an emotional outburst that he was angry with himself for not being there to defend his world when it needed him. Haruka convinced him that he no longer needed to bear the weight of an entire world anymore. He would never open up to his new teammates entirely, keeping much of his past and even his true name a secret, but he accepted what Haruka said and vowed to fight alongside her and her team for better or worse.

Dinovolver: the Saurian Rangers’ transformation device, manifested by the user placing their hands behind their back and then bringing it forward. It activates when a Power Cell is placed inside and user speaks the name of their dinosaur followed by the phrase, “Dinovolve now!” after which it transfers to the front of their belt. The Rangers invoke the powers of different saurian protector spirits by placing Power Cells inside their Dinovolvers, and each device can store up to three at any one time. They can also function as a form of long-distance communication between the team and the computer at their secret headquarters.

Strike Sabre: a short-sword carried by the core five Rangers. Inserting a Power Cell causes the edge to vibrate, allowing the wielder to deliver a lethal slashing attack that is often enough to slay human-sized Northlanders with a single hit.

Force Gun: a ray-gun carried by the main five Rangers. Its ammunition and rate of fire are augmented by loading different Power Cells into a chamber under the barrel. When combined with the user’s Strike Sabre, it becomes the Strikeforce Blaster, a larger, deadlier two-handed firearm, or with the Red Ranger’s Tyrannovolver to form the Tyrannoforce Blaster.

Saurian Power Weapons: each of the Saurian Rangers wields a special weapon individual to them. The Red Tyrant Fang, Black Hadro Laser, Blue Stego Shield, Green Veloci Claw and Pink Tricera Horn can combine using the Kentrosaurus Power Cell to form the Saurian Power Spear, an enormous, serrated weapon that cleaves easily through Northlander armour plating. A second set of Power Weapons also exists, wielded by the auxiliary Rangers and fashioned in a similar manner, but with a very different method of combination. Using the Allosaurus Power Cell, the Cyan Ankylo Hammer, Grey Meteor Flail, Purple Plesio Blaster and Meridian Crystal Sword combine into the Strikeforce Cannon, with the Meridian Ranger’s Force Gun as its trigger mechanism.

Note on the secondary Power Weapons.
This second set of Power Weapons would be original creations for Saurian Strikeforce, although the Plesio Blaster might share some similarities with the rocket-like weapon KyoyruRed wields in Zyuden Sentai Kyoryuger: It’s Here! Armed On Midsummer Festival while the Crystal Sword might be a stand-in for Torin’s Feather Edge.

Deino Chaser: called on and energised using the Deinonychus Power Cell, these motorcycles provide the Rangers with added speed and mobility for traversing the complicated landscape of the tiered city.

Apex Ptera Wing: a wrist-mounted sidearm worn by the Apex Ranger, the Ptera Wing possesses a wing-shaped blade on its outer side that unfolds for slashing attacks, and can shoot bolts of light when a Power Cell is loaded into it, similar to the other Rangers’ Force Guns. It can be linked with the Lightning Glaive for a deadly lightning strike attack.

Apex Lightning Glaive: the Apex Ranger’s primary weapon-of-choice. The Lightning Glaive can absorb and channel static electricity from the air, turning it into a white hot thunderbolt. Its strength and sharpness can be enhanced by inserting up to three Power Cells into the sockets located underneath the blade. It can be linked with the Ptera Wing for a deadly lightning strike attack.

Maxillators: twin weapons wielded by the Black Ranger. These teeth-lined gauntlets extend up to his shoulders and not only grant the wielder extra punching and chopping power, but allow him to initiate a mid-air spinning attack, and dig through solid surfaces at intense speeds.

Vertex Doomerang: the Vertex Ranger’s primary weapon-of-choice, this device allows its wielder to force control over the Zords of the other Rangers by playing it like a flute. When a Power Cell is inserted, it fires deadly, boomerang-shaped bolts of light that burn through solid surfaces with ease, or explode upon contact. When extra Cells are attached, it can augment the properties of these projectiles and engage a, ‘hunting system,’ in which the boomerangs follow the intended target until it hits them or is destroyed, erupting in a violent explosion.

Tyrannovolver: a secondary firearm wielded solely by the Red Ranger, fashioned in the likeness of the Tyrannosaurus Saurianzord. Aside from turning her Force Gun into the double-handed Tyrannoforce Blaster, it can imbue her with the essence of the Zord when the command, “Tyrannovolve now!” is spoken. This generates the Tyrannoforce Armour.

Tyrannoforce Armour: a suit of armour that can be worn by the Red Ranger wielding the Tyrannovolver, the Tyrannoforce Armour consists of a large, ornate red-and-gold cuirass resembling the head of the Tyrannosaurus, with integrated spiked pauldrons, vambraces, gauntlets, greaves, and a feathered plume for her helmet. It also changes the appearance of the user’s original suit and increases her strength, stamina and dexterity. Inserting different Power Cells into the barrel of the Tyrannovolver while the armour is active augments it further, creating human-scale versions of the Stegosaurus’ sword, Triceratops’ drill, Parasaurolophus’ cannon, Velociraptor’s claws, Ankylosaurus’ war-hammer, Pachycephalosaurus’ spiked flail and the Spinosaurus’ boomerang and shield.

ZORDS

XXXXXXXXXX

Ancient warriors that once protected the inhabitants of Ultima Panterra, the re-christened Saurianzords have been reborn as machines to lend their raw might and ferocity to their new masters, the Saurian Power Rangers. When energised by the Power Cells, they rise from their underground slumber to do battle with the forces of evil by combining their bodies into giant Megazords. The Pteranodon is capable of converting into an agile Warrior Mode, in which it attacks with lethal electrified talons. Similarly, the Plesiosaurus possesses a bulkier Warrior Mode which wields an arm-mounted Plesio Pulsar cannon, and a unique, third Rocket Mode for aerospace travel. The Brachiosaurus’ Warrior Mode is the largest and sturdiest of the lot, armed with a humungous Brachio Buster poleaxe.

Saurian Megazord: the fusion of the Tyrannosaurus with any two other Saurianzords. Its default state is armed with a spiked shield and Stego Sword from the Stegosaurus and drill-tipped spear from the Triceratops. Like some previous Megazords, it is adaptable. It can combine with other Saurianzords by switching out its arms, obtaining different weapons, tools and energy-based attacks each time. The Parasaurolophus equips it with a cannon, the Velociraptor with shredding claws, the Ankylosaurus with a war-hammer and the Pachycephalosaurus with a spiked flail.

Pterasaur Megazord: the combination of the Saurian Megazord and the Pteranodon Saurianzord, taking the immense bulk and ferocity of the former and allowing it to do battle with foes that would normally be safely out of its reach on the ground.

Pliosaur Megazord: the combination of the Plesiosaurus Saurianzord with the Tyrannosaurus and Pachycephalosaurus Saurianzords. The Pliosaur Megazord uses its flail to facilitate its melee combat needs, and can fire a wave from its chest that slows its target’s movements, holding them in place long enough to unleash a triple-charged beam of light from its Plesio Pulsar. Although the Grey Ranger is required to pilot the Pachycephalosaurus Saurianzord properly, it can be summoned to complete the formation by remote if its designated pilot is unavailable. This proved extremely beneficial to the rest of the team while Cruz and Robbie left on their quest to locate the imprisoned Meridian Ranger.

Saurian Strikeforce Ultrazord: the combination of the Brachiosaurus, Tyrannosaurus, Parasaurolophus, Stegosaurus, Velociraptor and Triceratops Saurianzords. The Ultrazord brings the full fury of the prehistoric past and harnesses it into an unstoppable arsenal of weapons. The crest on its head can extend to strike foes from a distance, while its shoulder-mounted cannon launches devastating blasts of combustible energy, and the super-charged edge of its Power Poleaxe can rip monsters apart. It annihilates its opponents with a barrage of light fired from the gemstones embedded in its chest-plate, pouring the combined might of the Rangers and their Saurianzords into a single all-out assault.

NORTHLANDERS

XXXXXXXXXX

Name: King Nord
Appearance:
--as Northlander: identical to Many-Faced High Priest Chaos from Zyuden Sentai Kyoryuger.
--as mutant: identical to Transcendenterfly Deboth from Zyuden Sentai Kyoryuger.
Bio: as cold and ruthless as the kingdom from which he hails, King Nord’s goal is to cover Ultima Panterra in permanent winter, bringing an end to all other life on the planet and allowing his kind to sweep across it like a plague. When the flying city of Heavenfront appeared in the skies, he became convinced that it would be the perfect place to establish his seat of power and from there expand his frozen empire to other worlds, eventually covering the universe in snow and ice. He commands his armies from a fortress of ice hidden in a mountain range, using a series of enchanted scrying-spheres, each in a different colour, in order to spy on his enemies or simply observe what is happening miles away, even on the streets of Heavenfront, although he cannot look into their homes or personal lives. This drawback is a source of constant frustration to him as it prevents him from finding out the secret identities of the Power Rangers. He is methodical and callous in his schemes, content to sacrifice lives on both sides to reach his goals, and will not hesitate to slay his own men if they displease him. He rules by fear, as his followers can never be sure when he will execute them or worse, change them into Kallikant slaves. Despite Skyheart’s efforts to intercept him, King Nord was able to get his hands on the Pteranodon Power Cell at the Dark Mountain to utilise in battle. He entrusted this Cell to Kalagha.

Following the loss of the Pteranodon and the arrival of the Apex, Grey and Purple Rangers, King Nord grew frustrated, and began work on a new plan, which saw fruition when a meteor containing the same mineral as the Garnet of Life, which had been previously lost to the Black Ranger, landed in the ocean. The meteor was destroyed, but Nord managed to obtain a fragment of the mineral, which he used to stimulate the growth of a plant created in his laboratory, the Krawlaterror. Spreading through the city’s water supply, the plant paralysed much of Heavenfront, and its roots dug so deep as to cause serious foundational damage, before pouring its poison all over the landscape below. Only the formation of the Pliosaur Megazord allowed the Rangers to destroy the plant’s main body, but the city did not come away from the battle unscathed. The damage done to it by the Krawlaterror would take weeks, if not months to repair, and it would have to land in order to refill its dwindling water supplies, which were depleted from pouring antidote-laced water onto the ailing surface of the planet. In spite of the defeat, Nord discovered the Krawlaterror’s spores could stimulate heightened cellular regeneration, and began work on a new plan.

Unfortunately, his forces were still depleted, forcing him to call upon his older half-brother Stouth, who had led the Northlanders’ campaign of conquest at the South Pole. The brothers despised one another, but Nord was willing to acknowledge Stouth’s capacity for leadership, and proposed they pool their remaining soldiers under the general’s command. Nord cared little for Stouth’s coercing of his subjects, not even when his own sister was on the receiving end. He was surprised to learn Kalagha had absorbed the general, believing him to have perished during the battle at Christmas, but took heart in the fact that he could continue working on his new project. His plans were seemingly derailed, however, when the Power Rangers successfully reunited the Meridian Stone, an ancient artefact which had been broken into thirteen fragments, one of which was the Garnet of Life possessed by the Black Ranger. He unleashed one of his early experiments, Prototype Zero, in order to overcome this new threat, using the time bought to hasten his ultimate goal, the installation of several secret genesis pits all around Heavenfront. The formula inside, augmented using the Krawlaterror cells, would produce monsters of greater strength and at a faster rate.

While the Rangers and their allies were spread across the city, dispatching the invasion force, evacuating citizens and targeting the secret genesis pits, Nord retreated to his castle. Haruka followed him, and in the ensuing duel, plunged the Northlander ruler into one of his own pits. Saturated with the bubbling formula inside, Nord absorbed the cells of many different Northlander species, eventually rising as a bizarre mish-mash of plant, insect, mammal, amphibian and mineral. The maddened creature beat the Red Ranger into submission and initiated the final stage of his plan, activating a self-destruct sequence in the pits that would flood the floating city with freezing liquid. The destruction would result in the eradication of every human, Panterran and Northlander within. In spite of her pain, Haruka recalled every encouragement she had been given by her friends, by Skyheart, and by her former master Daichi Kusanagi. The Red Ranger made one last-ditch effort, and overcharged her Tyrannoforce Armour, destroying Nord utterly. He died cursing the Rangers, experiencing no epiphany the way his deceased followers had. The resultant explosion of his mutant body also consumed his castle.

Name: Kalagha
Bio: King Nord’s barbaric chief warrior, Kalagha is the deadliest hunter in the Northlands, but for reasons initially unknown, aided his master in taking over his once lush, warm homeland of Hajivana. When he was a boy, he stole the Sword of the Dark Mountain, in spite of the warnings from his tribe’s shaman. The weapon was forged for the purpose of pure evil, and could turn anyone who wielded it into a mighty warrior, but at a cost. Kalagha ignored the legends, but as the years went on, he came to discover exactly what kind of price he would have to pay for his power. The truth is that what others perceive as Kalagha is only a suit of armour, for the sword had slowly consumed him, and it was only his willpower that kept him from disappearing completely. The revelation terrified the people he had once called friends and family, and the shaman condemned him for his foolish actions. Driven to the brink of madness by this, Kalagha wandered, over hundreds of years becoming a demonic figure of legend, until he came into contact with King Nord, who was impressed by his strength and offered him a place within the hierarchy of the Northlands. Although his tribe were long gone, Kalagha bristled with hatred at the world, and especially the home and the people that had turned their backs on him, and personally spearheaded the destruction and conquest of both. Aside from himself, there was only one survivor -- the Ultima Panterran who would later become Captain Skyheart. Upon realising that Skyheart’s continued existence was evidence that he had failed to annihilate his people, Kalagha convinced King Nord to give him the corrupted Pteranodon Power Cell and Saurianzord, to ensure he finally accomplished his genocidal goal. He failed in this effort, and the drain on his energy made him reliant on Paleonite hosts, which could only be produced in a limited quantity. He sought a solution by merging with Professor Rokato’s new robot, MAXIMO, but was driven out of the machine when Rokato shut down its systems, paralysing it. A more successful merger would occur after he goaded Stouth into a battle where the general would be weakened by the Rangers, allowing Kalagha to absorb him as a new host. Although he was able to take over this new host’s body, Stouth’s sheer spirit proved indomitable, and the general was not only able to separate himself from Kalagha, but submitted him to such intense mental torture that the warrior’s spirit was totally broken. Kalagha served Stouth unquestioningly until the final assault on the city of Heavenfront, during which he and Captain Skyheart finally put aside their differences and killed the general. As the city crumbled all around them, Kalagha decided now was the time to end their enmity forever and forced Skyheart to face him in a one-on-one duel to the death. After an exhausting battle, Kalagha dealt the Apex Ranger a mortal wound, but Skyheart’s Lightning Glaive broke the Sword of the Dark Mountain, setting Kalagha’s soul free. His last words voiced his hopes of leading a more worthy life when he was reincarnated.

Note on Kalagha.
Kalagha’s name is a pormanteau of the Hindi words for black, “kālā,” and tiger, “bāgha.” I had originally wanted to name him in honour of Rudyard Kipling’s villainous jungle-cat Shere Khan. His arrival on the battle-field would be announced with a tune reminiscent of the tiger’s theme music from the Jungle Book anime. The name of his homeland is also a uniting of Hindi words, in this case green, “harā,” and life, “jīvana,” to emphasise its state before it became part of the Northlands.

Name: Princess Syndrie
Bio: King Nord’s younger sister and a recently ascended female knight. Initially coming off as very shallow and hungry for attention, not to mention prone to fits of sulking when her plans were thwarted, Syndrie wears a mask of almost psychotic glee. She does not simply invest in the subjugation of the Ultima Panterrans as a way of expanding the Northlands across the entire planet, but seems to delight in it. She finds the new race known as humans to be intriguing, and often takes on a human disguise in order to mingle with them and learn about them. Although she discovers much conflict, fear and stupidity, she also finds kindness, loyalty and friendship that oddly strikes a chord with her. Syndrie is later revealed to be a rather lonely individual. Her brother was taken from her at a very young age to be groomed as the next king of the Northlands, and she had no other friends growing up. This drove her to invent an imaginary best friend based on a doll, which had been among the spoils retrieved from a conquered village. Toying with a book of spells stolen from her father’s private library, she was able to bring the doll to life. Although Syndrie was punished for the theft, the execution of which had to be carried out by her brother and left her with her distinct black face marking, she had gained a friend who would never leave her in Gullywag. Syndrie was bullied and manipulated by her half-brother Stouth upon his return to go along with his plans, and during a particular adventure was given help by Breno and his friend Rizzy. Confused about her loyalties, she returned to her own kind, but not before helping the Blue Ranger to defeat a mind-controlling Northlander, Romcomnibus. This would seal her fate in Nord’s eyes, as he believed her to be a liability and arranged for her to be assassinated. Dauberon helped her brother’s wrath, which would result in the cost of his own life. Spurred on by his sacrifice, Syndrie cut her ties with her family and joined the humans and Panterrans in their battle, even aiding the Meridian, Cyan and Grey Rangers in destroying Nord’s genesis pits.

Note on Syndrie.
Candelilla’s slit-mouth appearance, quite frankly, creeped me out. I had a lot of ideas I wanted to use for her name, some of which referenced Angelman syndrome, pejoratively known as happy puppet syndrome, but I wondered if it might be in poor taste to do so. In the end I focussed on the syndrome part, and thought she should have a light Scottish accent as a reference to her having a Glasgow smile, also known as a Chelsea grin. Due to their familial connection in this adaptation, it is most likely that both Nord and Stouth also possess Scottish accents.

Name: Dauberon
Bio: a venerable knight who served King Nord’s father many years ago, Dauberon is a wise, if rather morose and jaded figure, deeply respected by his peers. Due to an injury he sustained while protecting a young Nord and Syndrie during a civil war, he began to spend progressively less time in the field and now works behind the scenes as a tactician and orchestrator for the younger knights, many of whom grew up hearing of his exploits and wanting to be like him. Very few realise that Dauberon cares little for his own reputation, and references his past only when citing tactics that have worked against previous enemies. He and Kalagha argue frequently, but only because Dauberon has little patience for the hunter’s self-obsession and his reliance on sheer brute force in place of intellect and experience. To his mind, too much brawn and not enough brains has seen too many knights fall in a stupid, avoidable and dishonourable way. When Stouth arrived from the South Pole, Dauberon disliked him immediately as he saw his men only as tools and not as living creatures. Seeing a threat of dissention, Stouth used dark magic to take over Dauberon’s mind and fill him with bloodthirsty rage. The old knight was still self-aware, however, and began to fear for Nord and Syndrie. After learning that Nord planned to kill his sister for harbouring affection towards humans and Panterrans, Dauberon resisted Stouth’s control of him just long enough to get the princess to safety. While protecting her and Gullywag from Discordious, he pleaded for the Rangers to help them, but Stouth’s spell reasserted itself and drove him into a frenzy. He was finally cut down by Al-Mal, thanking the Black Ranger for freeing him as he lay dying. His death deeply affected Syndrie and Gullywag, cementing their defection from the Northlanders.

Note on Dauberon.
Dauberon’s name is based on the Irish word for sorrow, “dobrón,” in reference to Aigaron being the Knight of Sorrow.

Name: Gullywag
Bio: King Nord’s highly deranged court jester and the childhood friend of Syndrie, whom she also serves as a personal spy. Gullywag often bursts into fits of giggling regardless of her actual mood, and also seems to suffer some degree of difficulty maintaining her focus, becoming distracted from her task by the idea of playing with children. She does not share Nord’s passion about freezing Ultima Panterra, instead only acting towards her mistress’ interests. She uses a magical potion poured from a toy watering can to rejuvenate fallen Northlander monsters in giant form. Gullywag was originally Syndrie’s imaginary friend during childhood and was given life by a magical spell. Eventually, Nord’s research into cellular hyper-regeneration relieved Gullywag of her monster-restoring duties, and faced with the likelihood of being exiled or destroyed, she gave herself entirely to the mission to gather the thirteen fragments of the Meridian Stone, but failed in this as well. Syndrie helped the condemned doll to escape, sharing a heartfelt farewell. The pair were eventually reunited shortly before the death of Dauberon, prompting her to defect along with her mistress and lend a hand in the destruction of the genesis pits.

Note on Gullywag.
Gullywag’s name is a spin on gollywog, a type of doll.

Name: Kallikants
Bio: mindless foot-soldiers that constitute the majority of King Nord’s ground forces, the Kallikants are the result of a hideous operation carried out on those who displease their king. Deprived of their intelligence and free will, these mutants are the epitome of Nord’s wrath, and carry out his orders without question. Their new bodies are composed of a special gel held in place by their enchanted masks, and are able to pool themselves together into monstrous gestalts easily the size of a Megazord. In battle, they wield tooth-edged axes. The production of Kallikants was concluded when the Meridian, Cyan and Grey Rangers, aided by Syndrie and Gullywag, destroyed the genesis pits.

Note on Kallikants.
The Kallikants’ name drives from Kallikantzaroi, a malevolent spirit from Greek lore that thrives in the winter darkness.

Name: Paleonites
Bio: the result of King Nord’s more daring genetic experiments, Paleonites blend traits of various ancient creatures into a single entity, geared specifically to engage in extended and brutal warfare. Nord lacked faith in the military knightly orders favoured by his late father, and he sought to replace them with warriors that did not possess the weaknesses of their predecessors. Unlike Kallikants, the Paleonites do not have a universal ability to merge, but they come with superior strength, intelligence and endurance, and with a far greater array of abilities at their disposal. They emerge, fully grown, from the evolution pits underneath the ice fortress. Unfortunately, Paleonites can only be produced in a limited quantity each month, and with Kalagha depending on them to sustain him following the energy drain he suffered from losing to the Apex Ranger, they were considered a failure. The production of Paleonites was concluded when the Meridian, Cyan and Grey Rangers, aided by Syndrie and Gullywag, destroyed the genesis pits.

Name: Chief Leopold Taven
Designation: Vertex Ranger
Age: 45
Ethnicity: African-American
Appearance: dark eyes, high and tight black hair, black moustache and full beard. Typically seen dressed in the black cap and grey uniform of the military police with red-and-gold trim, gold pips and medals, over a white shirt, black tie, white gloves and black boots.
Bio: supreme commanding officer of Heavenfront’s military police force. Chief Taven distrusts the Rangers, but finds his attempts to officiate a warrant for their arrest for vigilantism and other damages thwarted by the intervention of Madame If and her council. He has a strict, black-and-white worldview, believing that all those who commit crimes should face the consequences. A policeman on Earth, Taven earned his current position as a reward for his efforts to bring order to the confusion that plagued Heavenfront after its immediate formation. If believes he has much in common with the Rangers as he acts only to do what he considers to be the right thing. Taven took this as an affront, and as his personal feelings had a greater and greater effect on his work, she began to ponder the possibility that she would lose control of him. Her fears were realised when Taven found the Spinosaurus Power Cell. Within it slept the essence of the Spinosaurus, the original leader of the Saurianzords of ancient times before the rise of the Tyrannosaurus. Its desire for destruction for destruction’s sake called out to his hatred of the vigilante heroes, transforming him into the Vertex Ranger. Using his new powers, Taven was determined to bring the Rangers to justice, as well as lend the military police the added might of the Saurianzords against the continued Northlander threat. To the horror and shock of the team, he easily overpowered them in battle, and took Robbie and Cruz as his prisoners. The pair escaped, but not before their Power Cells were taken from them and their spirits forced into submission by the inherent ferocity of the Spinosaurus, allowing Taven to utilise them, and their attached weapons, to use against their true masters. In a final confrontation that led them far from Heavenfront to the ruins of an ancient Panterran burial ground, the Rangers crippled the Extinction Negazord and Haruka battled Taven in a one-on-one fight to the finish. Both warriors brutalised to each other to the point they could barely even stand, but Haruka’s convictions were stronger and truer. Taven’s powers left him and he was imprisoned.
Items: Vertex Dinovolver
Power Cells: #0 Spinosaurus, #7 Ankylosaurus (stolen, temporary), #8 Pachycephalosaurus (stolen, temporary)
Weapons: Vertex Doomerang, glove-integrated retractable blades, Cyan Ankylo Hammer (stolen, temporary), Grey Meteor Flail (stolen, temporary)
Zords: Spinosaurus Saurianzord, Ankylosaurus Saurianzord (stolen, temporary), Pachycephalosaurus Saurianzord (stolen, temporary)

Name: Stouth
Bio: the older half-brother of King Nord and Syndrie, Stouth was given the responsibility of ruling over the Northlander territories at the South Pole. He led a highly successful campaign, and after hearing word of his sovereign’s difficulties against the Rangers, he arrived with two members of his personal guard, Discordious and Zatchmo. Although loyal to the crown, Stouth mocked Nord’s failures at every turn. He had never forgiven their father for favouring one over the other in spite of his superior military capabilities. He also had some knowledge of dark magic, and used it to manipulate Syndrie, Gullywag and Dauberon on a number of occasions to aid his plans to destroy the Rangers. After being weakened by Haruka wielding the Tyrannoforce Armour, he was absorbed by Kalagha and forced to become his host. Stouth warned Kalagha that he would regret his treachery, and while the people of Heavenfront celebrated the city’s first Christmas, he returned and subjected the warrior to intense mental torture, breaking his spirit and turning him into his personal slave. During the final assault on Heavenfront, Stouth ordered Kalagha to destroy Skyheart while the latter was injured. Believing it would be a hollow victory, Kalagha instead chose to help his former friend and the pair fought together, ending Stouth’s threat, as well as his life. Stouth died asking his siblings for forgiveness, envious that his slayers had been able to put aside their hatred of each other in a way he and Nord never could.

Name: Discordious
Bio: one of Stouth’s personal guard, Discordious was tasked with assassinating Syndrie after King Nord questioned her loyalty. When Dauberon helped the princess to escape, Discordious pursued them relentlessly, dealing the aging knight a mortal blow. He was able to deflect most of the attacks the Rangers threw at him, but was cut down by Al-Mal using Dauberon’s battle-axe.

Name: Zatchmo
Bio: another member of Stouth’s personal guard, Zatchmo served mainly as a brutal enforcer. He grew to giant size and was seemingly destroyed by the Plesiosaurus Saurianzord, but this was revealed to be false, as he then followed the Rangers back to their secret headquarters deep inside the city. He was beaten by the combined efforts of Al-Mal, Breno and Manny.

Name: Prototype Zero
Bio: the only survivor of King Nord’s earliest genetic experiments, the prototype was created from an Ultima Panterran gladiator who had been under the impression he would earn his freedom for defeating all of his opponents. Driven insane by the process, Zero went on a rampage through the kingdom until Nord was able to create a device to subdue it. It was during this debacle that Nord learned of his creation’s ability to depower weapons and machinery. Rather than destroy it, he stored it away in the vaults beneath the castle until he could learn to harness its terrible might for his own use. Years later, after the Power Rangers successfully reunited the fragments of the Meridian Stone and revived the Brachiosaurus Saurianzord, Nord decided that only Prototype Zero had sufficient strength to combat the new threat. He guessed correctly that the creature’s energy-draining abilities would work on the Rangers and their Saurianzords. It easily dispatched the Saurian Megazord and Pteranodon, but with the encouragement of their friends, the Rangers refused to give up. They put everything into a last-ditch attack, buying time for the arrival of the Meridian Ranger, who fused his Brachiosaurus Saurianzord with the others to form the Saurian Strikeforce Ultrazord. This ultimate combination destroyed Prototype Zero utterly. Unfortunately, the battle served only to keep the Power Rangers and the majority of the citizens distracted, as Nord’s minions carried out preparations to spawn enormous new genesis pits all over the lower levels of Heavenfront.

XXXXXXXXXX

With the power of the evil Spinosaurus Power Cell, the Vertex Ranger can call upon his very own Saurianzord, a huge, vicious predator that delights in acts of carnage. Long ago, it was the alpha of the Saurianzords, and used its might to bully the populace of Ultima Panterra and force its brethren guardians to carry out its will, until it was dethroned by the Tyrannosaurus, who took its place as the leader and transformation core. This Power Cell did not exist in the records of the ancient Ultima Panterrans and was not recognised by Captain Skyheart, meaning that it spent years in obscurity, waiting for its revenge, until it fell into the possession of Chief Leopold Taven. Revived in the modern era, it now seeks to plunge the world into chaos once again, and avenge itself on its fellow Zords.

Extinction Negazord: the combination of the Spinosaurus, Ankylosaurus and Pachycephalosaurus, resembling an evil reflection of the Saurian Megazord. It wields the arm-integrated hammer and flail of its stolen components, and also carries a deadly, bone-like Doomerang that launches from its dorsal fin.

SUPPORTING CAST

XXXXXXXXXX

Name: Madame If
Age: 40
Ethnicity: Ukrainian
Appearance: long, black hair in an elegantly curled, ‘Jessica Rabbit,’ style, and violet eyes. Typically seen dressed in a smart, dark red or black dress suit with white trim and buttons, white gloves, dark tights and dark red high-heeled shoes. Wears silver earrings and a jewelled necklace.
Bio: the first chairwoman of Heavenfront’s city council, known by the populace as the City Mothers and Fathers. On Earth she was an actress and model, but exhibited unexpected talent when it came to organising the confused, panic-ridden humans that had been hurled into the new world. She opened communication with the natives, leading to the foundation of a mixed human-Panterran citizenry, and for her initiative and diplomacy was awarded the seat at the head of the council. Aided by her colleagues, she laid out a city charter to provide laws by which all Heavenfronters would abide. She has publicly promised to amend for the errors of old world governments in order to create a genuinely fair future for her people. Thus far, she has kept her word, but she is also aware that things may get worse before they get better, especially now that the Northlanders have targeted the city. She trusts the Power Rangers to do the right thing, but also believes that people who hide their identities cannot be depended upon, and that Heavenfront must learn to protect itself. Following Chief Leopold Taven’s seizing of the evil Vertex Ranger powers and his subsequent defeat, Madame If had him imprisoned beneath City Hall. Feeling partially responsible for driving him to this mad decision, she considered resigning from her position, but was convinced otherwise by Captain Skyheart, who urged her on by telling her that while the Rangers were out fighting on the frontlines, they and everyone else in Heavenfront depended on her to make sure they had a home worth saving. If was still plagued by doubts, but was able to rally the military police to defend the city while also helping to evacuate the citizens to safety.

Bio: the butler to the Navarre family on Earth, and now Joséphine’s guardian in the absence of her parents. Du Lac is unaware of his charge’s secret identity as well as her criminal history, and silently considers her to be his surrogate daughter, having lost his connection to his real daughter, Angelica, when he was displaced from Earth to Ultima Panterra. Because of his dedication to her, he will often act to put himself in the line of fire, and Joséphine must pick her moments carefully to go into action while avoiding his attention. After discovering the truth, Du Lac attempted to prevent her from joining the others in battle, even confiscating her Power Cells. She was able to convince him to return them to her in order to save her friends, and during a heartfelt moment he revealed he would be proud to be her father. Joséphine replied by saying she wished he was.

Name: Diesel Stringer
Age: 17 (DECEASED)

Bio: Diesel is the leader of the Outrunners, one of three teenage street gangs that operate in Heavenfront, specifically in and around the High Street commercial district. The group are the smallest of all three, and like to think of themselves as being able to go anywhere, rather than relegate themselves to a specific territory. The gang tend to meet on the roof of a high-rise overlooking the district, but the clubhouse proper is housed in one of the flats on the top floor. Diesel unfortunately met his end when trying to hold off Hoodwing so the gangs could escape, at a time when they were arguing over the fate of the Garnet of Life, a rare gemstone King Nord desired. Diesel told Al-Mal never to give up, before dying in his arms and inspiring the other gangs to come together for the first time and fight off Hoodwing’s Kallikants, giving Al-Mal the opportunity to morph and get to the monster. The Garnet of Life was shattered during the fight by the Black Ranger to keep it from falling into enemy hands, although he kept a single fragment of it to remember Diesel by. Diesel’s body arose from its grave after the Meridian Stone was reunited, becoming the host body for the Meridian Ranger.

Name: Icer
Age: 18
Ethnicity: Libyan
Appearance: dark eyes, and long, brown hair worn in a Dice Bob style. Typically seen dressed in a blue denim jacket, open over a black mini-dress, fastened about her waist with a wide, white belt with a gold buckle, red leggings, and black boots. Her ears are both pierced and she wears a stolen Volkswagen emblem on a chain around her neck.
Bio: Icer is the leader of the Shieldmaidens, one of three teenage street gangs that operate in Heavenfront’s High Street district. They are an all-female group, as implied by their chosen name, and highly territorial, holding the most stable influence and numbers of the gangs. Icer does not seek conflict, seeing her followers as survivors, but is unforgiving when she is intentionally slighted, which often puts her at loggerheads with the verbosely provocative Ugo. Their clubhouse is situated inside a converted bank. During the Northlanders’ final assault on Heavenfront, Icer and her Shieldmaidens swore loyalty to Al-Mal and helped to defend the citizens as they evacuated.

Name: Ugo
Age: 17
Ethnicity: Ultima Panterran
Appearance: Ugo’s body is covered from head-to-foot in pale grey, scaly skin, with a long, narrow beak like that of a Troodon, dark grey patches down his back and arms, a tan chest and stomach, and a mop of black bristles on the end of his tail. Large, dark amber eyes under bristly, black brows. Hands and feet are clawed, so like all Ultima Panterrans does not normally wear shoes. Typically seen dressed in a black, hooded coat with dark red interior and gold Oriental dragon embroidery, open over a white vest, two black belts with silver buckles crisscrossing over his chest and stomach, denim jeans torn off below the knee designed to allow full freedom for his tail, and black cuffs around his ankles.
Bio: Ugo is the leader of the Jurassic Bunch, one of three teenage street gangs that operate in Heavenfront’s High Street district. He and his group are the most violent and actively troublesome of the gangs, composed of street toughs and youths separated from their families by the great displacement who did not find shelter elsewhere, as well as troubled young Ultima Panterrans who found appeal in the less savoury aspects of human culture. Their clubhouse is located in the ruins of what was an underground train station on Earth. During the Northlanders’ final assault on Heavenfront, Ugo and his Jurassic Bunch swore loyalty to Al-Mal and helped to defend the citizens as they evacuated.

Name: Richelle “Rizzy” Harvey
Age: 18
Ethnicity: Caucasian
Appearance: hazel eyes, and shoulder-length brown hair. Typically seen dressed in a black top, denim jeans, and white trainers. When working as, “Rizzy,” she dons a primarily yellow-and-grapefruit clown’s suit with face-paint.
Bio: Richelle is Breno’s childhood friend, and works as a clown at the city’s first fun park, “Joytown.” When the park was locked behind an invisible barrier by the Lord of the Labryinth, Richelle almost fell victim to the monster’s hypnosis when she saw an image of her late father, who called her a failure and berated her viciously for her shortcomings, particularly her inability to admit her feelings for Breno. Richelle’s willpower was enough to resist the illusion and she escaped, meeting up with Breno in his search for the monster. Breno morphed in front of her but was unable to defeat the monster’s squad of Kallikants on his own, until Richelle gave him the #19 Iguanodon Power Cell. She also later helped the other Rangers break through the barrier by striking it while they peppered it with their Force Guns from the outside, disrupting it. Now aware of Breno’s secret identity, she opted not to tell him how she felt, believing it would be better to wait just a little longer. When he set off to participate in the final battle for the fate of Heavenfront and all of Ultima Panterra, she wished him luck with a meaningful embrace.

Name: Professor Rokato
Age: 32
Ethnicity: Japanese
Appearance: dark eyes and snort, neat black hair with a left-sweeping fringe. Typically seen dressed in a white laboratory coat over a tweed suit, white shirt, dark red bowtie, and black shoes.

He created the prototype robot MAXIMO so he could assist the disabled and provide a better quality of life, but with the war with the Northlanders reaching new intensity, he was contracted by the military police to begin research into a way to copy the Saurianzords and advanced weapons of the Power Rangers. Rokato agreed, despite the protests of his assistant. MAXIMO came to the attention of Kalagha, who was in search of a more permanent host to contain his essence, and a soulless machine was perfect. As the monster tore apart the facility and threatened to spread into the city, Breno was able to bring Rokato back to his senses, and he shut down the robot’s systems, paralysing the monster within until it could be forced out. Rokato, humbled by the experience, made peace with his assistants and promised to return to his original path. The military police found the decision to be less than satisfactory. Rokato was later revealed to have disappeared under mysterious circumstances, much to Chief Taven’s chagrin.

Name: Mister Wu
Age: 70
Ethnicity: Chinese-American
Appearance: dark eyes, and long, white hair with a white moustache and beard. Typically seen dressed in a tie-dye headband and baggy shirt, black shorts and sandals. When attending his school, he wears a white-and-grey Taoist martial arts uniform and ties his hair back.
Bio: Mister Wu is Cruz’s martial arts instructor and surrogate father, as he was one of the many separated from their families by displacement. Wu opened a small martial arts school to help the scared and directionless children who now lived in Heavenfront, and it quickly grew into a successful enterprise. It was Wu who discovered the Pachycephalosaurus Power Cell, and during his brief stint as the Grey Ranger he not only held off the Northlander Xulub, but trained the six human Rangers to overcome their weaknesses, which he had observed during the fight. Wu was hurt during the next confrontation with the monster, and when Cruz ran to his aid, ignoring the Kallikants in order to save his master, he finally relinquished the Cell to his student. Wu recovered from his injuries and returned to his school, where he remains to support the team. During the Northlanders’ final assault on Heavenfront, Wu and his other students helped to defend the citizens while they evacuated.

Name: the Guardian
Appearance: identical to Torin from Zyuden Sentai Kyoryuger.
Bio: this ancient spirit is the remnant of an order of Panterran monks dedicated to aiding the Meridian Ranger in days of long ago. He was responsible for alerting Cruz to the existence of the tomb in which the Meridian powers were sealed by entering his dreams. He waited for them at the bottom of a vast subterranean labyrinth beneath an island on the planet’s equator, and informed them that in order to awaken the sleeping Ranger they would require the Meridian Stone, which was broken up into thirteen pieces, one of which was the Garnet of Life possessed by Al-Mal. Once the quest had been successfully completed, the Guardian led them to the tomb’s inner sanctum. Once the necessary ritual had been completed, the Guardian passed on, his duty fulfilled.

POWER CELLS

XXXXXXXXXX

The #0 Spinosaurus Power Cell is the source of the Vertex Ranger’s power, the centre of his transformation, ammunition and the means to summon and energise his Spinosaurus Saurianzord. It was thought lost forever after the spirit of the Spinosaurus was defeated in battle by the Tyrannosaurus, but across the centuries it made its way to Heavenfront, and into the hands of Leopold Taven.

The #1 Tyrannosaurus, #2 Parasaurolophus, #3 Stegosaurus, #4 Velociraptor and #5 Triceratops Power Cells are the Rangers’ primary power sources, as well as the very objects that marked them as the most suitable to become heroes upon their arrival on Ultima Panterra. They are inserted into the team’s Dinvolvers in order to activate their transformations, and are then used to load their Force Blasters, or to summon and energise their respective Saurianzords. The five of these were found in fossilised form at various locations on Earth by the five core Rangers, leading them to Ultima Panterra when they, along with the city sectors that would converge to become Heavenfront, were pulled through a rip in reality during the battle for Ranger Station between the All-Star Rangers and the Master Algorithm. How they came to be in our reality in the first place is not known. The Tyrannosaurus Cell later changed form when Haruka gained the power of the Tyrannoforce Armour.

The #6 Pteranodon Power Cell is utilised by the Apex Ranger in the same manner as the five that came before it, serving as the source of his transformation, ammunition for his Ptera Wing, and the means by which he calls on and controls his personal Pteranodon Saurianzord. King Nord found this Cell at the Dark Mountain, where the Pteranodon had been sleeping for centuries. Nord used an evil spell book to infuse the Cell with dark energies, but only after a long struggle against Captain Skyheart, who had received a vision warning him of the king’s plot. After escaping with both the Cell and the Saurianzord, he entrusted them to Kalagha.

The #7 Ankylosaurus, #8 Pachycephalosaurus and #9 Plesiosaurus Power Cells serve the later Rangers in exactly the same way as the previous six, being their source of power, ammunition for their weapons and the means to summon and energise their Saurianzords. Unlike the first five, they were not found fossilised on Earth, but made their way, through various means, into the hands of their chosen wielders some time after they were displaced to Ultima Panterra.

The #10 Brachiosaurus Power Cell is utilised by the Meridian Ranger as his power source. Thought to be lost, this Cell was sealed away with the Meridian Ranger at the bottom of a vast network of caves. The guardian of the powers revealed that the Cell would be unlocked to find its own host when the thirteen fragments of the Meridian Stone were brought together. After a long and arduous search, the fragments were united and the Stone put back together. The energy within the artefact surged miles across the planet, taking the Power Cell with it, until it found the grave of Diesel Stringer, whose body was resurrected to serve as a host for the Meridian Ranger’s essence.

The #11 Deinonychus Power Cell is shared by all the members of the team and is used to activate their street vehicles, the Deino Chasers. It was described as providing, “the perfect steed,” for the user, and unearthed at a dirt track where Al-Mal was practising motocross. Breno attempted to try it for himself, but crashed into a dirt bank, loosing the Cell from its imprisonment. When tested, its power manifested as five motorcycles, one for each member of the team, and would later provide extra units as new Rangers attained their power.

The #12 Deinosuchus Power Cell is wielded by the Black Ranger, and allows him to call upon twin weapons, the Maxillators. The Cell was one of several previously found by Captain Skyheart, and Al-Mal discovered their abilities just in time to pursue the subterranean Northlander Paragold, who under orders from Dauberon, used his treasure-seeking senses to lead him to the power source that kept Heavenfront aloft.

The #13 Kentrosaurus Power Cell is wielded by the Red Ranger and used to unite the core team’s individual Power Weapons into the Saurian Power Spear. It can be loaded into a Force Gun to fire a high-explosive round, but the recoil can be enough to badly injure the user if caution is not exercised.

The #14 Styracosaurus Power Cell is wielded by the Pink Ranger. Those who are struck by its blasts become completely infatuated with the first person they see. The spell is only undone when the target falls unconscious or, in the case of Northlander monsters, destroyed when still human-scale. Joséphine found it under a waterfall during one of Heavenfront’s stop-offs. While practising with it to discover what its effects were, she accidentally shot Robbie, and he fell in love with her. The spell was quick to wear off because he fell from the cliff-face he had been investigating at the time. Initially seeing it as useless, the Cell later allowed her to distract a powerful monster named Klot the Unkillable, breaking his focus and thus his control over the Ankylosaurus Saurianzord, which rightfully belonged to Robbie.

The #15 Allosaurus Power Cell is wielded by the Meridian Ranger and used to unite the auxiliary team’s individual Power Weapons, as well as the user’s Force Gun, into the Strikeforce Cannon. It can be loaded into a Force Gun to unleash a burst of extreme heat reaching approximately 6,800 °C (12,270 °F) in temperature.

The #16 Diplodocus Power Cell is wielded by the Red Ranger. It transmogrifies the body of the user into a tough, elastic material, allowing them to contort their body or stretch their limbs to remarkable lengths. It was one of the few previously found by Captain Skyheart during his initial quest to gather the Power Cells, though he had no idea what it could do, and was used to extend the Tyrannosaurus’ neck until it could reach the rampaging Pteranodon while it was under Kalagha’s control and pin it to the ground. This allowed Skyheart and the others to battle the Northlanders for its freedom unimpeded.

The #17 Oviraptor Power Cell is wielded by the Cyan Ranger. It shoots a dark yellow stream of stun gas that renders enemies disoriented for a time or knocks them out completely. It was uncovered at an iron forge that Yuckimouldo had taken as his base of operations. During the time in which the monster caused confusion among the team by using Kallikants disguised as Al-Mal, Breno, Manny and Joséphine, Robbie followed him in order to rescue the real Al-Mal. The Cell was embedded in the wall, and when used by the Saurian Megazord, it stopped the then-giant Yuckimouldo and Kalagha long enough for the team to reunite and win the battle.

The #18 Iguanodon Power Cell is wielded by the Blue Ranger. Unearthed by Breno’s friend Richelle while working at Heavenfront’s newly opened fun park, she gave it to him while trying to escape an illusory trap created by the Lord of the Labyrinth to lure the team into the open and force them to surrender their power or else leave those inside to eventually starve behind the barrier he had created, ignorant to the fact that Breno was also there. When fired, this Cell’s blasts cause a feeling of ultra-sensitivity not unlike tickling. Breno condemned the Iguanodon as embarrassing and vowed only to use it when he was really desperate.

The #19 Tupandactylus Power Cell is wielded by the Pink Ranger. The Power Cell was plucked from the sea by a scavenging bird and literally dropped on Joséphine’s head. During a test, its ricocheting blast accidentally hit Manny square in the back, revealing that anything struck by it would be reduced to soft, two-dimensional material for a brief time. Joséphine later used it to get Robbie inside the heart of the Ankylosaurus Saurianzord, which was suffering because of a virus used by Klot the Unkillable to control it even though the monster was no longer present, having previously been lured out into the open.

The #20 Ammonite Power Cell is wielded by the Grey Ranger. It can emanate a psychoactive wave that induces hypnosis, leaving all but the most strong-willed of targets unable to resist the attacker’s commands.

The #21 Archelon Power Cell is wielded by the Purple Ranger. It manipulates the level of gravity around its target, making them as lighter than air or so heavy as to be immobile.

The #22 Fukuiraptor Power Cell is wielded by the Blue Ranger. Those who are hit by one of its blasts is inflated into an almost perfectly spherical and bouncy form, allowing for impromptu escapes or effectively turning the effected into a bludgeoning weapon.

The #23 Futabasaurus Power Cell is wielded by the Green Ranger. It allows the user to clone themselves by an indefinite amount. The copies do not last longer than a few moments, but allow ample opportunity to steal the advantage over an opponent.

I'm guessing you're going to be updating this every time one of the "Guardian" rangers show up.

Probably. I don't like this idea about throwaway Rangers. It was one of the parts I disliked the most about Dekaranger, so the extras would be, I guess you could call them an auxiliary team. You know how like in Beast Wars there were Maximals who preferred to stay in the wild rather than remain aboard the Axalon? Same deal. Heroes that roam the city, keeping an eye out for trouble, while the core team operate from the city centre. Gives more of an opportunity for forces not strictly answering to Captain Skyheart to use the Power Cells as well, a bit like Eric in Time Force.

It was the final battle for the sake of all life on the planet Ultima Panterra. The field was the floating city of Heavenfront. The Saurian Strikeforce Rangers were divided across the metropolis. Most fought along with their allies against wave after wave of rejuvenated monsters. The Meridian, Cyan and Grey Rangers took part in a daring raid on the secret genesis pits hidden beneath their feet. One of them, the Apex Ranger, ended his deadly feud with the traitor Kalagha. The Red Ranger, the last of them, fought the mad King Nord inside his castle. Driven on by the thought of the team who had come to depend upon her as leader, and a master who was now impossibly far away, she eventually triumphed, putting an end to Nord and obliterating his castle. The world was saved from the evil of the Northlanders, but at a terrible cost.

Captain Skyheart, the Apex Ranger, succumbed to the injuries sustained during his duel. Surrounded by his friends, he died smiling. The Meridian Ranger, spirit of an ancient king, left this world to guide the fallen warrior into the next. They both received heroes’ funerals. Life went on, and the hefty process of rebuilding began. Syndrie and Gullywag, two Northlanders who had forsaken their old way of life, worked to make up for their past misdeeds. Old rivalries still existed, but enmities were put aside as the citizens came together to restore their home. For the next few months, the planet had peace.

That was until the Proleans arrived. They appeared one night in the skies above Ultima Panterra, on a rogue planet named Voldath. The surviving Rangers were taken up onto the planet. The Proleans were interstellar fanatics who had used their roving satellites to follow the Rangers’ adventures as entertainment. Even stranger was that they had also been following the adventures of the four teams who came before. Using dimensional portals, the Proleans had brought the five All-Star Rangers to their world as well. Also present were Syndrie and Gullywag, seemingly returned to the side of evil, as well as restored versions of Dauberon, Kalagha, Nimda and Hybris, accompanied by armies of Kallikant and Genocyber foot-soldiers. The Proleans explained that this was their satisfactory ending, the ultimate “crossover” finale they had all wanted, and a battle for survival for both Ranger teams began.

The teams were pitted against each other’s foes rather than their own, as well as two “special guest stars” named Gardos and Grievax. The Saurian Rangers were defeated and taken to Voldath’s central lodge, where they were put under mind control and sent to fight against their seniors. By the time that the All-Star Rangers brought them to their senses, it was too late. Their energy, and that of the All-Star Rangers, had been drained into a conduit leading down to the heart of the planet, which was revealed to be the shell of a gargantuan alien. Voldath was set on consuming both universes, draining all their collective energies and becoming the ultimate source of all energy across reality.

Nobody expected the arrival of a third team from out of nowhere. Arriving on a strange flying train, a new team of teenaged Power Rangers appeared to assist their predecessors. The three-fold alliance destroyed Grievax, but Gardos threw himself into the conduit to awaken the dormant Voldath. The mysterious new team gave the Saurian and All-Star Rangers a necessary energy boost, as well as the secret to uniting their Zords into a single fighting machine. The Megazord was able to hurl Voldath into the sun, destroying it but leaving the Proleans with no planet. The new team agreed to transport the survivors, freed of Voldath’s control, to a new home where they could start over. The Saurian and All-Star teams shared a hopeful farewell before they were returned to their respective worlds.

POWER RANGERS EOS

(Note: pronounced AE-YOS)

XXXXXXXXXX

The town of Wintervale is famous for its ghostly sightings. Since it was founded almost two hundred years ago, its citizens have reported all kinds of bizarre and unexplainable events. Many believe the vast catacombs beneath the town to be haunted by the angry spirits of the deceased. Sceptics tend to mock these claims, but the truth is even worse than the believers realise. The town stands above a rift between the material and spirit worlds, and within that rift exists Castle Termlin, where the armies of the dead plot to invade the world of the living with their fleet of Ghost Trains.

Standing in their way are the mysterious Conductor and his robot assistant Dynar, who bring together five lost teenagers to crew the EOS Express, a high-tech train that can stop the army of ghosts dead in their tracks. Gifted with extraordinary abilities by the mystical Power Modules, Engie, Zervo, Electra, Big Hopper and Caboose stand together against the dark forces of the Masked Controller. It’s all aboard for adventure as a new Power Rangers saga begins!

Note on Engie.
Engie’s name is shortened from “engine” in reference to steam engines, but is also a slang term for an engineer. Both meanings are applicable due to the role engineers play in the operation of trains.

Name: “Zervo”
Designation: EOS Ranger Two
Age: 15
Ethnicity: Inuit
Appearance: dark eyes and thick, black hair slicked into spikes at the back. Typically seen dressed in a dark brown jacket emblazoned with the number ‘2’ in yellow on the right lapel, over a pale blue shirt, denim jeans, and white trainers. Bio:
Items: Polychromer
Power Modules: Blue Power Module, Fire Power Module, Tank Power Module
Weapons: Photon Boomer, EOS Power Blaster
Zords: Expresszord Two, Tankzord

Note on Zervo.
Zervo’s name is a corruption of “observation” in reference to a train’s observation car. He was originally to be named “Obs” from a mere shortening of the word, but I quickly grew to dislike the idea. The theme of observation is also the reason for the magnifying glass pendant he wears.

Name: “Electra”
Designation: EOS Ranger Three
Age: 16

Designation: EOS Ranger Five
Age: 14
Ethnicity: Caucasian
Appearance: blue eyes and long, light brown hair. Typically seen dressed in a black jacket emblazoned with the number ‘5’ in white on the left lapel, over a lavender top, dark pink woollen scarf and mittens, black leggings, and dark red cowboy boots.
Bio:
Items: Polychromer
Power Modules: Pink Power Module, Fire Power Module, Watch Power Module
Weapons: Photon Boomer, EOS Power Claw
Zords: Expresszord Five, Watchzord

Note on Caboose.
Caboose’s name is a reference to the type of train car of the same name, which is usually attached to the end of a freight, noting that she is the fifth and last in order of the core five Rangers.

Five-way morphing sequence.
The five teenagers stand against a background of twinkling stars. Coloured particles magnetise to their bodies, forming their suits. Their eyes glow with a brilliant white light, accompanied by the bellow of a train’s horn, which fades to reveal their helmets. FLASH! They are now the EOS POWER RANGERS.

ARSENAL

XXXXXXXXXX

Polychromer: the EOS Rangers’ transformation device, worn on the left wrist. To activate the transformation, the user must insert a Power Module and call out the phrase, “EOS Power, Engage!” Whereas each member of the previous Ranger generations had a specified colour and designation, the EOS Rangers can swap out their Power Modules, allowing them to access each other’s colours, powers and weapons. These changes are often accompanied by the Ranger in question calling out their number followed by the colour they are switching to, for example, “One Red!” Also unlike previous generations, the transformation is protected by a force-shield which manifests in a form similar to the safety line on a train station platform.

Photon Boomer: the primary sidearm carried by the core five EOS Rangers. It is ordinarily carried in the form of a ray-gun, but can be switched to a short-sword for melee combat. A Fire Power Module can be inserted to increase the weapon’s strength and precision in either form.

EOS Power Weapons: unlike the previous Ranger generations, wherein each individual member could call upon a specific weapon designed only for their use, the EOS Rangers can each access one of five weapons depending on which Power Module is engaged. These weapons include the Power Sword, Power Blaster, Power Hammer, Power Axe and Power Claw. The Power Weapons can be combined into the EOS Railgun, which shoots a train-shaped projectile that can cause any one of countless bizarre effects.

Power Pass: worn on the belt buckle, the Power Passes serve as both long-range communicators and identification to allow the team to board the EOS Express.

Chromatiser: Ranger Six’s transformation device.

Plasma Beacon: Ranger Six’s unique weapon. The Plasma Beacon is a glowing baton which can be augmented using the Drill Power Module.

Roundhouse Cannon:

ZORDS

XXXXXXXXXX

The EOS Express, and its fleet of associated trains, are housed inside a disused railway station beneath the town of Wintervale, although it is not as deeply buried as the rift containing Castle Termlin. It was originally intended to serve as a terminus, making it large enough to easily contain the Zords and still have plenty of room. Unused or incomplete Zords can often be seen undergoing construction and maintenance by computer-controlled machinery in sidings separate from the main and branch lines. The station also serves as a headquarters and home for the team, containing sufficient facilities to satisfy their needs. Thanks to a special perception filter, the station is impossible to find without direct knowledge of its existence, and can only be entered using a Power Pass. An apartment complex stands above it on the surface, allowing the Rangers to provide fake addresses if and when required.

EOS Express Megazord: the combination of the five core Expresszords. Lithe and flexible in design, in its default form it wields extendable limbs, a battering ram in its torso, and the Barrier Blade long-sword. It can call upon other abilities by combining with additional Expresszords. The Shieldzord creates additional protection its left arm and can project a five-coloured beam of energy. The Carrierzord attaches to its right arm and can be used to launch a rapid-fire machine gun attack. The Tankzord divides in half to provide gauntlets that give the Megazord extra punching power. The Drillzord creates a spiralling blade over its right hand that bores through targets with ease. The Watchzord equips it with a pistol in its right hand and a set of deployable manacles on its left wrist. The Rescuezord augments it with an extendable ladder-arm on its right and dual water-cannon on its left.

Dieselzord: a long, powerful freight train composed of a diesel locomotive, boxcars and a flat wagon. It can assume a Warrior Mode in which the Carrierzord and Tankzord transform to provide its legs and feet. The Dieselzord can generate powerful shockwaves with a stamp of its feet, or destroy opponents with a deadly spinning kick attack. It can also join with the Watchzord or the Rescuezord in the same manner as the EOS Express Megazord.

EOS Diesel Megazord: the combination of the EOS Express Megazord and the Dieselzord, Carrierzord and Tankzord.

Metrozord: Ranger Six’s unique Expresszord, the Metrozord is a breakdown crane consisting of two cars which can combine together into a Warrior Mode.

EOS Mega Metrozord:

SUPPORTING CAST

XXXXXXXXXX

Name: the Conductor (sometimes “Mister Conductor”)
Age: unknown, physically appears to be in his 50s.
Ethnicity: Japanese
Appearance: dark eyes and short, spiky black hair streaked with white. Typically seen dressed in a dark blue-and-cream uniform with gold buttons and cufflinks, a pale blue shirt, a red tie, white gloves, brown shoes, and a dark blue peaked cap with a rainbow-coloured band. Bespectacled. Although seemingly human, the Conductor is not seen in person, only on monitor displays inside the EOS Express, usually against a background of colourful, rotating wire-frames.
Bio: the Rangers’ enigmatic benefactor, and the one who orchestrated the creation of the EOS Express in order to fight the Masked Controller’s Ghost Trains. The Conductor’s true identity is not known to the Rangers, but he is said to be a genius inventor and has a deep understanding of trans-dimensional science, which aided him in outfitting the team and their equipment specifically to fend off ghostly enemies. The Conductor apparently lacks a physical form, appearing only on the computer monitors embedded in the EOS Express’s walls, or alternatively on the Power Passes, so he often leaves any necessary legwork to Dynar. The Conductor is a guarded individual, aware of some deeper truth behind the origins of the five EOS Rangers and what made them “lost” in the first place, but keeping the truth close to his chest for fear it would destroy them.

Name: Dynar
Bio: the Conductor’s robotic assistant, Dynar assists the Rangers by performing maintenance on their weapons and equipment, as well as on the EOS Express itself. She is bubbly and friendly, treating the Rangers like her own siblings. She also possesses a adventurous streak which leads her to venture into Wintervale on a whim, believing that the stares she attracts are ones of admiration rather than confusion. This is something she frequently mentions in her e-mails to fellow robot Sulla.

Note on Dynar.
Dynar’s name, in a similar fashion to several of the Rangers, is a reference to the musical Starlight Express. Specifically, Dinah the Dining Cart.

POWER MODULES

XXXXXXXXXX

The Red, Blue, Yellow, Green and Pink Power Modules are the Rangers’ primary power sources. They are inserted into a Ranger’s Polychromer to activate their transformation, and can be exchanged to allow access to each other’s weapons and powers. The five coloured Power Modules are also used to call upon the five cars which make up the EOS Express.

The Fire Power Modules are a set of Modules wielded by the first five Rangers. They can be inserted into the user’s Photon Boomer, loading it with homing shots in Blaster Mode and emitting a short-range electromagnetic field that paralysed a target’s systems in Blade Mode.

The Shield Power Module is wielded by Ranger Four and used to summon the Shieldzord.

The Carrier Power Module is wielded by Ranger Three and is used to summon the Carrierzord.

The Tank Power Module is wielded by Ranger Two and is used to summon the Tankzord.

The Orange Power Module is Ranger Six’s primary power source. It acts in very much the same way as the five main Power Modules, allowing Ranger Six to activate his powers and to summon the Metrozord.

The Drill Power Module is wielded by Ranger Six. It is used to charge his Plasma Beacon with energy for more powerful attacks, or to summon the Drillzord.

The Diesel Power Module is wielded by Ranger One. It is used to summon the Dieselzord and to combine it with the Carrierzord and Tankzord.

The Watch Power Module is wielded by Ranger Five and is used to summon the Watchzord.

The Rescue Power Module is wielded by Ranger One and is used to summon the Rescuezord.
