Passion of the Christ

Saw it over the weekend.... I thought it sucked. They weren't kidding in South Park or exaggerating... it was a 2 hour snuff film with maaaaaybe 5 minutes tops of flashbacks for Jesus's actual life that would be what I was actually interested in.

Anybody else see this? I was Christian once, so I'm cool with Jesus... but I would've rather have seen a story about why he was a good man, not about how much of an ass kicking he could endure for 2 hours.

Yeah it was pretty boring.

I never bothered seeing it myself, nothing against Jesus, just something against Mel Gibson.

I just really haven't had any sort of deep desire to see it.

So, how much was the movie?

I guess I better put my 2-cents in beeing a non practicing Roman Catholic here:

This movie can be enterpeted in 2 ways

A) Jesus did alot of stuff for our sins, and I mean ALOT. This is pretty much word by word what was said happend during his Crusificion in the Bible, so for anyone who respects the bible, it's a powerful and moving look as to what Jesus sacrfificed and what he had to endoure for our lives. This is what a person of fate would describe the movie.

B) a regular moviegoer who goes to see this movie will not get offended, more or less, come our like Stan and Kenny did, where they felt like it was a waist of time. In my Opinion, most people would fall into this category.

there is also the eterpitaiton of "jews Bad, cristians good" and "god, this F#%^king movie is overkill, this never happend" as well, but the A and B examples is how the majority enterpret it.

I think the first of the Later would be exclusive to Mel Gibson really (damn it, I so wanted to be serious...)

We all need to believe in some sort of spirit or god or something. Without it, the world would fall apart. Think about it.

So grab your holy cross or your solid gold buddah statue or whatever and start believing.

I'm well and good for people believein Jesus was the Son of God and all that. I used to believe that and I was just fine. Faith can be good for some people.

My problem was that 98% of the movie wasn't about the great man Jesus was said to be and his teaching.... it was about seeing the crap get kicked outta him. Which was for "us" and all, but.... I just think his life would've been more of a compelling and worthwhile film than 2 hours of his death.

I believe in Jesus, and I understand that he went through hell, but why did Gibson have to emphasize his torture rather than his life?

I remember hearing about this film as this historicaly accurate representation of apart of Jesus life, then the trailer came out, I saw a cross and said "Oop, not historicly accurate never mind" and never saw it.
