I think the people who are like "I hate rap it is all ****" are usually just people who heard a few rap songs that they didn't like, and decided everything in the genre is exactly that way, and also happen to be the sort of person who thinks anything they don't find appealing is automatically no-talent horse ****. That's the case with people who blindly hate just about any genre.
Whoever uses the term "I hate rap" may as well say, "I hate food". There are that many different variations on the genre. Backpacking, hardcore, crunk, dirty south, east coast, west coast, rap-metal, hip-pop, trip-hop, etc.
Now, the people who are saying how rap is repetitive and oh it sucks and stuff like that because they only talk about sex, drugs and violence. Well, rap has grown so much that it has something called 'sub-genres'. All that type of rap is known to be Hardcore Rap/Gangsta Rap.
That's the one everyone supposedly hates. And that's why it's so repetitive. Because it's in the same genre...Duuuurrrrh.
There are other types of rap you know. People who don't really curse and don't talk about the things you all are bringing up. They talk about positive things about life. They are rather poets interpreting their feelings through a beat.
People like Common, Talib Kwali, Jurassic 5, Mos Def and many others. They're not your typical crotch-grabbing, gun toting rappers.
Besides, even gangsta rappers, at some point, soften up their lyrics for particular songs.
I'm usually open to almost every type of music. And I grew up on rap/hip-Hop and R&B. So, to see people make comments on rap and I know that many of you haven't even listened probably 5 songs from 5 different artists. I wouldn't jump the gun as to saying "I hate it because it's crap."
Most of you just need to think outside the box and actually listen to some other type of music and give it a chance. You might like it. You never know what kind of gold you'll find when you're randomly searching for something new. There is more to music than what you hear on the radio or on your favorite tv show.
One thing that really irks me, though, is whenever someone brings up certain type of music in a topic, there's bound to be some racial siding. Black kids will go with rap and whites with rock. Music should't have to be associated with a race. Music is a universal language.
Gosh, if that didn't make me sound like a hippie, I don't know what did.
