OT:Rap and MTV these days.

I can understand people's "distaste" for rap music; everyone has their own likings. However, its a much more ignorant statement to generalize the content of rap music to be infused with drugs/guns/girls. If you're going to say "rap music is crap" you should AT LEAST say mainstream rap is crap. Your quarrel is with mainstream hip hop, not the "whole" of rap music. There are plenty of intelligent, highbrow rappers that actually rhyme with significance.

I want people to really understand the difference because you'd be pissing 99% of rap fans off by saying " rap music sucks or rap is crap," whereas if you'd have said "mainstream rap sucks or is crap," then 99% of rap fans would agree with you.

I'd rather listen to R&B anyday, but now it's kinda hard to even tell those apart lol.
Most R&B artists are collaborating with Rappers.

Nail. On. Head.

Not all rap is crap. Just listen to some of the greats like Nas, KRS-One, Slick Rick, LL Cool J, Run-DMC, The Roots, and Public Enemy. When they rap, they actually say something and address certain social issues instead of talking about the money and bitches they got.

So everybody's beef is with mainstream rap, not rap in general. In fact, it's not really the rappers fault: it's the people that buy their albums.

"Rap and MTV these days"

Substitute "Rap" for "Music in general" and I'll say that they all SUCK. Don't call me close-minded... I just cannot stand them. If I listen to them, I feel like I'm listening to the same thing over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and...

I'm not a fan of R&B, hip hop or rap at all, to me it all sounds roughly the same and I definitly don't like many of the artists invovlved in producing it but I don't hate the music or the genre, I just don't have a use for it.

As for why MTV is playing it, the hip hop culture happens to be the dominant one that makes the most coin for them. Part of that is audience that happens to be very, very free spending especially compared to fans of other kinds of music. So it makes sense for MTV to market to that group.

Now I personlly loved VH1's little reality show "Supergroup" which had the likes of Nugent, Ian from Anathrax, Sebastian from Skid Row, Evan from Bio hazard (and Tera Patrick's husband) and son of the God of Thunder, I forget this name. But that's just me probably.
