This person somewhere was saying they didn't have 3 dimensions. In other words, they were highly predictable. So why would that be the case? Anyway, does that bother you? I mean, I know real-life actors whom I like - even though they're incredibly predictable!
 
I think some of the FF games suffer from such one dimmensional plot and characters. Also you won't be able to connect much with some of those characters. So earlier games are predictable like that. Also some of the turn based games don't have much connection with gamers. It's just pure gameplay.
