Gundam's selling point is its line of giant robots, but what I'm clarifying in my what-if is that the enemy team the Sentai would face are human beings with some sort of aggressive political motives (not aliens, demons from other dimensions, etc).

Isn't that what Gundam and other Real Robot franchises are doing already, by putting mecha action in front of a political backdrop?

Also, I realize there's already so much Filipino toku (refer to what GekiDan mentioned) but not enough merchandise-driven toku locally (a la Rider, Sentai, or even Ultraman).

Politically driven? Code Geass first comes to my mind... Most mechs are considered Real Robots especially the mass produced ones.

That could be it, but it would be a budget nightmare to create a similar franchise back home and sustain it within the country's boundaries given the bad economy. Of course, if you get that franchise in the international spotlight with positive feedback, that would be great.

the Komiks "franchise" has some good ones especially some of those anthology superheroes series... plus the fact that they are on a weekly basis which could provide proper spacing of episodes... the first 2 seasons of pedro penduko was a good example...
