Next Xbox Confirmed - Microsoft Employee Spills The Beans

Sorry big but kinect is motion control and it is very well done. I have played several games with it, and I tried ME3 with the voice controls. It works very well. People bash kinect because they see others do it. I ask the people that bash it if they have even tried it. I am not saying you did that, I am just talking in general.

People bash kinect because it's microsoft's cheap cash-in on the casual gamer. Instead of investing in some new IPs, studios have fallen back on the "kinect card" delivering half-assed titles with kinect features because they know they'll sell. You have dozens of kinect exclusives, but few 360 exclusives coming out this year, that shouldn't happen.

What's more is Microsoft shoving the device in the face of those that don't want it by letting devs implement Kinect-specific features into their games; Halo, Mass Effect, Fable and changing the dash into a Kinect-center piece.

Sorry but no. I don't buy any of that. Yeah it's for the casual gamer, but those terms "casual and hardcore" gamers are nonsense terms IMO. Gamers are gamers. People that look down on others because they are not OMG HARDDDD COREEEEE are just silly imo. If you play a game and you enjoy it, good for you. Yeah there are a lot of kinect games coming out, and so what. Don't buy them. There are plenty of other systems and games to buy. If you don't want kinect in ME then don't use kinect in ME3. It's OPTIONAL. Those other games you can just not buy. You make it sound as though you are being forced to use or buy kinect, you are not. Don't bash it because you don't want to buy other things.

I for one have a blast with ME3 kinect. I am also looking forward to using kinect with skyrim.

I never once mentioned hardcore gamers, why you brought that up is beyond me.

When they limit a feature that can be used with a controller to Kinect-specific, they're alienating their user base.

And why have Kinect if people are just going to use it for voice commands? There's no point to that because those same things can be done with a standard headset, it's a gimmick to sell the accessory.

Microsoft's main push with Kinect is "you are the controller." Implementing Kinect with just voice commands, or even the camera, not only defeats the whole purpose, but also highlights its main flaw; without a controller, the peripheral isn't practical for some games.

It's the same reason you don't see Kinect games that allow the user to freely move about the environment, it's cumbersome, and extremely difficult to track while ensuring the user stays in one spot. By itself, it's main use is for dancing games, on-rail games, or anything that requires you to replicate some sort of predetermined, on-screen action - some move in a dancing game, a block in dbz, stuff like that.

If you replace certain words to Nintendo and Wii, it fits.

Geninuely excited to do this

There are no games where if you didn't have a Kinect you couldn't use a certain command.

There are free roaming games, I worked on one and reviews said the free roaming was suprisingly well implemented :)

Because you brought up "casual" gamers. People that use one term always use the other.

So it's gimmicky, so what? I also can't stand those head sets. You like them, great. A lot of people don't. Not having to wear the head set is a nice thing for me and for people I know. I am also pretty sure others feel the same. And again, no one is forcing you or anyone to buy it.

MS doesn't force the FULL thing on people. Just like nintendo didn't force companies to use the touch screen for every little thing. Voice commands or full body control is just fine. I get that YOU don't think just voice with kinect is a good thing, but it's obviously true some people do.

you don't see much of that YET. Who knows what the future holds. You sure have this deep hate for kinect.

Agreed about nintendo.

I think kinect with ME3 is just fun. Commanding liara to shoot something is just fun. And No I wouldn't enjoy it with a head set. I hate wearing those things :P Skyrim kinect looks fun.

I played the game you worked on. It is SOOOOOO fun.

I like the idea of shouting out commands to AI players if you're playing a game that's fast and reflective of being in a real life battle. It just seems more natural than physically selecting a character or halting the game to go through options.

I still haven't played it properly! My friends have my copy and they've played a lot of it. It didn't sell that well though, mostly due to bad marketing.

I worked on Kinect Disneyland Adventures that came out last year. Using the Kinect you can navigate around the entire California park, as well as go on the rides that were actually whole new levels that we created.

Found this video which is mostly just shows the player running, but sadly doesn't interact with the megaton of objects we put in the game.
