From the latest issue of Newtype, a new Eva series is in the works. Only it's a series of movies, not a TV show. Anno won't be be directing on this one though, the director is none other than Tsurumaki Kazuya, best known for FLCL. This will be a totally take on the EVA timeline using the same characters from the TV series. Kaworu is apparently going to be a main cast member now. It's been said that the first two movies will somewhat remind people of the TV series, but the second two will be completely different than the TV series and even then, a person won't have had to seen the TV series to understand this. Also, all the cryptic wordplay that Anno was so fond of will be tossed out. The movies are to be titled "Neon Genesis Evangelion: Shin Gekijouban: First Volume, Second Volume, Latter Part and Final Story".

I'm always interested in a good alternate version (since sometimes they turn out better), but Eva should be one of those titles to be left alone. It's like remaking Cowboy Bebop, or, dare I say it, Final Fantasy VII (don't get me started there).

Still, it should be interesting to see what direction they take it in without the copious amounts of gorey angst.....

I have to agree. It could come out great but honestly I would rather see them try to make something new instead of reinvent something that had already been done. Very rarely does the remake do better than the original.

Same. The story of EVA was good and all. But It would be nice to see a new story and maybe a type of EVA. Like I have been seeing pics of Unit 01 with some kind of armor.

Evangelion was already strange enough, but with the director of FLCL (a series which I abhore with the burning hatred of 1000 suns), I have little hope that I'll like it.

Done by the guy that brought us FLCL... I'm pretty sure I'll find it nothing short of brilliant, but I think hardcore fans are going to flip out and melt into that fluid everyone burst into in the movies.

Nothing good will come of this. I wont even bother watching this garbage. The first series was fine, there's no need to pull a Tenchi and re-tell it. I can only imagine the crazy cliche' anime pop crap they will add into the fray in order to "modernize" it or something.

*melts into liquid and bursts*
