Film studio TOHO, film studio Toei, anime studio Khara, and production studio Tsuburaya Production announced a collaboration project between Shin Godzilla, Evangelion: 3.0+1.0: Thrice Upon A Time (Shin Evangelion Gekijō-ban), Shin Ultraman, and Shin Kamen Rider — all films directed or written by Hideaki Anno. The Shin Japan Heroes Universe project (named for the "Shin" prefix in all the films' titles) is planning events, merchandise, and other tie-ins between the films.

In addition to co-writing and directing the Evangelion franchise, Anno is the writer and co-director of the Shin Godzilla film, the writer of the upcoming Shin Ultraman film, and the director and writer of the upcoming Shin Kamen Rider film. Longtime collaborator and fellow Gainax co-founder Shinji Higuchi co-directed Shin Godzilla, and is also directing Shin Ultraman.

All the franchises have Anno's "Shin" prefix in their Japanese titles, which can mean many things, from "new" to "true." Anno has kept the meaning ambiguous in all titles.

Evangelion is Anno's most well-known work. It began with a landmark mecha anime series that aired in 1995, and most recently had its last installment with Evangelion: 3.0+1.0: Thrice Upon A Time last year. Godzilla is a long-running TOHO franchise starring the titular kaijū, created by Tomoyuki Tanaka, Ishirō Honda and Eiji Tsuburaya . Ultraman and Kamen Rider are both long-running tokusatsu ("special effects," but a colloquialism for shows starring costumed superheroes) franchises, the former by Tsuburaya Productions (founded by Godzilla co-creator Eiji Tsuburaya), and the latter by Toei (and created by manga creator Shotaro Ishinomori).

So this confirms all the Shin movies between Godzilla, Ultraman and Kamen Rider all take place in the same universe. That's pretty cool. I always dreamed of seeing a Ultraman vs Godzilla movie. Not sure how Kamen Rider can fit into all this.

Oh joy, the worst Godzilla movie is in connection with Evangelion! /sarcasm

Not sure if I'll laugh or facepalm if Shin Ultraman and Shin Kamen Rider end up felching like Iron Blooded Orphans Gundam. You know one of these days the reality shifting boards on /x/ will give me coordinates to a reality where good things happen like ANN goes bankrupt for lying, the ***** that framed Jew Wario gets laughed off the internet harder than Jared Fogle like that lying Dr. Ford book seller that failed to smear judge Punkanough, Trigger and Ufotable never succeed in getting off the ground, Kamen Rider Build gets scrapped in a meeting, legalized prostitution and toplessness, The Simpsons getting an end at season 22, and I end up getting shot by Stephen Paddock. Yeah in that timeline Stephen Paddock turns into Frankenstein or something. Adam Lanza can be the Mummy, Nicholas Cruz can be the Wolf Man, and I guess Robert Bowers can be Dracula I don't know.

No, it confirms that they're doing co-branded merch, Look forward to NFTs featuring re-used still frames from all Anno's films, or a pop-up shop in Tokyo selling t-shirts with that logo above printed on the front.

They have quite specifically avoided suggesting that there will be any sort of on-screen crossover.

Well that's lame.

Wow we actually agree on something. Shin Godzilla was pretty bad.
