On my x-box 360 I've tried installing the optional media update to play my avi or mp4s. Yet it only gets to 96 percent and wont finish updating. Is there any way to fix this.

Xbox live is experiencing a LOT of problems due to the rapid amount of people signing up for Xbox Live and the vast amount of connections. Their in the process of upgrading to bigger servers to support the many people. Its insane. Id wait for a few days before doing it.

Yes you can. There's no data stored inside your console whatsoever so you can resume your saved game on a friend's 360. Same goes for the smaller memory units.

Speaking of the update though, is it limited to America only? My set updated itself automatically about three weeks ago and I was all excited at being able to watch all the toku I burned in avi format and still no luck. Anybody knows why?

Keep in mind that the last update was DivX support, so it won't necessarily (infact, likely won't) play xvid files. What I ended up doing, which you can if you have a media center enabled version of windows, is sync your 360 to your windows media center and use a little homebrew app called Transcode360 which adds an option to your media center to transcode on the fly ansd stream whatever you're watching to your 360. It may not work well w/ older pcs, though i don't think the transcoding is a major resource hog, but if you have a mecia center enabled version of windows, odds are you're pcs good enough to have a smooth run from Transcode360
