Need some help creating a clip

Hey, I need some assistance on how to create a video clip.

I have a clip from a tv show on DVD, what would I have to do to get that from my DVD onto my computer onto youtube so that I can show the clip to someone?.

This is my first time attempting this so I would need some sort of program to extract it?.

DVD Decrypter to rip the video.
VirtualDubMod to make and compress the actual clip.

I'm gonna keep this simple.

In DVD Decrypter, select the relevant vob file (go by the 'title' number of the relevant episode), choose where to save it, save it.

In VDub, open up the ripped vob file, select the segment you wish to save (using the bar and black arrows at the bottom), set the compression codec (to something like DivX) and the bitrate (through the 'configuration' menu) and save it.

I'm downloading EASY DVD Clone, but I cannot find anything called Virtual Dub Mod.

Making a clip isn't that hard nor is extracting the files from DVD. You will need several programs though and I can teach you the way I do things (which maybe vastily different then other people's methods).

First, you'll need a DVD ripping program such as DVD Shrink or DVD Decrypter. I like and use both programs.

If you're attempting to rip a R2 DVD you will also need a program that will allow you to play DVDs from other regions. Of course you can change the region on your DVD burner BUT you run the risk of locking yourself out of it after so many attempts. I use DVD Region+CSS Free which costs $40.

Once you've ripped the DVD using either ripping program you'll need to create an AVI from the VOBs. There are many ways in doing that but the way I do it requires two more programs - the first is DVD2AVI and the second is AvisynthEditor.

Using DVD2AVI, you can then create a D2V (.d2v) file to use with AVS then insert the AVS into VDub (Virtual Dub NOT Virtual Dub Mod) and go about your encoding.

It sounds like alot of work but it really isn't. I'm sure other encoders have other programs they use to create AVI files from DVD but that's the way I was taught and it's pretty much the way I currently encode (except I've been taught a few other tricks to speed up my encoding - thanks Trace).

As I already attempt to do this my computer starts already fucking up. This isn't going to be pretty.

Just remember - encoding simply loves to eat your comp's resources so it's really best to do it late at night then go to bed.
