My problem with recent PR.

Now that Power Rangers has returned, I've been thinking about something. Since Bruce Kalish took over, all series after SPD were basically rips of their Sentai counterparts. And that really bugged me. I like originality in Power Rangers. I like effort. And now that Jonathan Tzachor is back as EP, we are falling into the same trap. Samurai will be nothing more then a copy of Shinkenger. And I'm really not looking forward to it. I know they have to do it to get the franchise back on it's feet, but I'm worried that all future series will be nothing more than copies of Sentai as long as Tzachor is in charge and god knows how long he will be the EP. And it seems like no effort is being put into Samurai. Let's just copy Shinkenger guys! I guess I sound like a bitter fan, but we just came off of RPM, which threw Sentai out the window and did it's own thing. Maybe I just wanted to see that with Samurai. Ugh.

I admit I'm shallow, but even if it's almost exactly like the Sentai...it's still Power Rangers to me because it has different actors and is still an adaption. Sure, sometimes it's better to do your own thing where the story doesn't always translate exactly..but others times it seems damn near impossible to not have some things be similar.

OO, Mystic Force, JF, annd RPM weren't rips...at least I don't remember any. If SPD to JF were rips they'd actually be good.

Mystic Fate was a rip of the Magiranger finale. I just wish PR wasn't so dependent on Sentai footage. Just because Sentai did it, doesn't mean PR should do it.

That's part of the Power Ranger formula..the reused Sentai footage. I've gotten so used to it that I'm not I'd like something different...I've a feeling it would be TOO different.

Oh I thought you meant they were rips as a whole.

lol but dude, you can't spas the second you see a Sentai rip that's half if not most of what Power Rangers is.

Yeah, but I'd like more effort put in. Not just ripping the Sentai plots. That's just being lazy. The later Kalish seasons suffered from a lack of imagination. Maybe it's just me.

If there's no effort put into it, yeah I suppose. But I am still able to enjoy it for what it is and not dislike strictly for the fact that it's just like the sentai.

Yea, I get where you're coming from. If the kalish seasons did have something original they didn't go all out, they didn't push it. Then when they ran out of w/e gas they had, it was a lame filler that made no sense.

Yeah, look at the first movie. Is that like normal Power Rangers? No. Because it didn't use Sentai footage. Ninja Megazord's combination was totally different, the Megazord had Shogun Megazord's sword, Kim and Billy had new weapons, Rocky had an SPD SWAT Mode style visor add on and Aisha got a torch built into her helmet. And the suit designs had the coin design on the chest like the toys. They haven't done that before or since, because of footage. Even the Turbo movie did use some Carranger props and suits (Ranger uniforms, Turbo Navigator, weapons) although not the footage. Any new movie would use footage from the Sentai though, now that it's HD and would look just fine on a cinema screen.
