Music!

I'm shocked a topic like this hadn't come up yet.

What type of music are you guys into? You can list genres or artists, whichever. Even a favorite song.

NWOBHM (new wave of british heavy metal)
Thrash metal
Speed metal
Power metal
melodic metal
death metal
black metal
and some cheese metal.

yeah there are over 120 sub genres of metal. Even that Nu Metal crap like Disturbed *vomit*.

NWOBHM is from the late '70s and 80's. Bands like Iron Maiden, Old Metallica, Megadeth, Motorhead, Saxon, Grim Reaper, etc....

I listen to anything except for Rap and Country. They usually arent the types that I like. But beyond that, anything that sounds good I like it.

Damn, I really hate metal. I hate metal almost as much as I hate country. But nevermind that! Serious, real serious question here: What the hell is "cheese" metal?

And is there a Fantasy Metal? Someone said that's what Blind Guardian goes under, and since there's an exception to every "I hate this genre of music" for me (Its not, "I hate this genre", its "I hate this genre, except for..." in my case) that might just be it. Nightfall in Middle Earth is an awesome album. :buttrock:

As for genres of music...

J-Pop: Mainly old-school early 90's stuff. Like Megumi Hayashibara and Namie Amuro before she turned into the "Queen of Slut-Pop". (Seriously, her first foray into Hip-Pop was excellent. But that newest album...Just...ew!) That, and anime music, which tends to be pop-ish.

J-Rock: Nothing popular, except Asian Kung-Fu Generation. Those guys rock hardcore. I actually tend to shy away from the more popular ones. And V-Kei bands? Bah! Also, for the record, I consider Do As Infinity (RIP) and Masami Okui to be rock. (Masami sounds pop-ish occasionally, but she has her own band, and most of her sixth album, Neei, is full of hardcore guitar solos.)

R&B: Nothing like a nice love song to mellow one out, ne? I didn't think I'd end up saying this, but only old school music for this genre too. These new guys have no idea what the hell they're talking about. Chris Brown? Pretty Ricky? WTF? They can't even get good names, so nevermind their lyrics. Give me some Case, Joe, and Jodeci any day of the week.

Blues/Jazz: Oh come on. Who DOESN'T like this genre? B.B. King and John Lee Hooker rock. (Of course, I'm still exploring this particular genre.)

Soul: That's right, I kicks it old-school. Al Green, Earth Wind and Fire, Marvin Gaye...the list can go on forever, basically. Lauryn Hill, Musiq Soulchild, and Alicia Keys too, so yeah I like SOME of the Neo-soul stuff that comes out now. Kinda. It needs work.

Hip-Hop: I've been getting into this genre. Guys like Talib Kweli, and Nujabes (though he is admittedly JP, he works with two English MCs). NOT the same as rap, I promise you. Better music, better lyrics, closer to singing poems than it is to what you catch on MTV or BET. I DO like some early rap though. Very little after the year 2000, 'cause they just started making four minute choruses. I also like Nerdcore HipHop, which is hiphop done by nerds--the most famous being MC Frontalot, and the Adult Swim great, mc chris. Both of which are very talented, and hearing Dinobots pop up in a rap song is coolness beyond all compare.

Gospel: As long as they don't do those songs where it lasts ten minutes and they get stuck saying the same line like they forgot the lyrics? They're usually really good, and really uplifting.

J-Urban: Japanese Hip-Hop/R&B. I'm very picky with some of this, since in rap and hip-hop the most important thing is the words, and not the sounds. I try to get bilingual MCs in this case, so occasionally I can get an all-English song. :D

Oh, and of course I like Tokusatsu music. Who doesn't?

I guess you could say I dabble in a bit of everything...
