Mortal Kombat II Finally Enters the Arena — With Johnny Cage, Lightning Lords, and a Hairless Jade

Mortal Kombat II Finally Enters the Arena — With Johnny Cage, Lightning Lords, and a Hairless Jade Mortal Kombat II hits theaters this October, and it’s finally bringing the tournament the first movie forgot. With real fights, higher stakes, and Johnny Cage in full ego-mode, the sequel looks ready to finish what the reboot started—this time in IMAX and without a streaming safety net. The 2021 film pulled in $88 million—not exactly a flawless victory, but solid for a pandemic release. Add HBO Max viewership and some nostalgic goodwill, and Warner Bros. greenlit Mortal Kombat II with more fighters, more realms, and more reasons to care about dragon tattoos again. They Dropped a Fake Johnny Cage Movie First… and It Was Glorious Warner Bros. kicked off the hype campaign by straight-up trolling everyone—in the best way. They released a trailer for Uncaged Fury, a fake 90s Johnny Cage action flick that plays like it was shot in an abandoned warehouse and edited on a VCR. The footage hits with full throwback energy: grainy frames, slow-mo pipe fights, budget explosions, and Cage screaming “Showtime!” like he’s stuck in 1994 and loving it. Karl Urban doesn’t hold back. He dives face-first into […]

I’ve watched the trailer like five times already. I’m so glad they’re actually doing the tournament this time. That was my biggest issue with the first movie—it just felt like a warm-up. But now with Johnny Cage as the main guy? I’m into it. Karl Urban looks like he’s having fun, which is important for a character like Cage. I don’t even care if he overacts; that’s kind of the point.

What interests me most is how they’re handling the lore this time. Separating Kitana from Mileena is an unexpected move, but I think it helps simplify things for casual viewers. The games get too confusing with their family and clone relationships. By making Kitana a standalone character without the shadow of Mileena, they can develop her more deeply. I’m also curious how they’ll handle Bi-Han’s transition to Noob Saibot. Even though he’s still “Sub-Zero” now, I assume they are planting seeds for his dark future.

The choice to make Johnny Cage the chosen one is risky. Liu Kang has always been the heart of Mortal Kombat, so turning him into a mentor might upset longtime fans. But if Cage’s journey is handled well, it can work. Urban looks comfortable in the role, and the fake movie trailer was a clever way to introduce him. I just hope the film doesn't lean too hard into comedy. Mortal Kombat can be funny, but it still needs weight and danger. I want the fights to matter.

Why did they have to make Jade bald? Seriously, what was the reason? She’s one of the most beautiful and iconic female characters in Mortal Kombat, and her long hair was a big part of her design. Now it feels like they changed it just to make a statement. I’m tired of directors pushing personal agendas instead of respecting the source material. This is not about representation or empowerment—it’s just unnecessary change.

No one asked for bald Jade. No one. This isn’t about creativity, it’s about being “woke” for the sake of it. They had a perfect opportunity to bring Jade to the big screen and do her justice, but instead they decided to make her look like a completely different character.

If they wanted to add diversity or freshness, they could’ve introduced a new fighter. Don’t take a fan favorite and completely redesign her just to be "bold." Mortal Kombat fans love these characters for a reason. Don’t mess with what works. This movie better be amazing, because they’re already testing the patience of longtime fans like me.

I’m sorry but… this isn’t the Jade I waited years to see. I wanted Jade, not Jada Pinkett Smith. I don’t mean that as an insult, I’m just being honest. Jade was always graceful, mysterious, and yes—beautiful. Her long hair, her emerald outfit, her elegance with that staff—it all made her unforgettable to me. I used to pause the game just to look at her win pose. That’s how much I adored her.

Now they made her bald, and I feel like they took away everything that made her stand out. Why change her so drastically? It’s like they didn’t trust her original design to be enough. I’m not trying to be rude, but this version just doesn’t give off the same energy.

I would've loved to see her on screen the way I remember her—powerful and gorgeous, not rewritten to fit someone else’s idea of what she “should” be. I’ll still watch, because it’s Mortal Kombat... but I’m lowkey heartbroken, man. Jade was my queen.

Okay, that fake Johnny Cage movie trailer? That was hilarious. I shared it three times already. It got people in my group chat talking, even ones who don’t care about Mortal Kombat.

I think making Johnny Cage the lead is smart. He’s fun and easier to relate to than someone like Liu Kang, who feels too perfect. Urban brings a cool but tired energy that works.

I’m not mad at the Jade design. Bald women can be beautiful and strong. It’s not a downgrade.

My only problem is Cole Young still being around. I thought we were done with him.

But I’ll watch it. If the fights look good and the story makes sense, it’s worth it. And no streaming? Good. Movies like this should be seen big.

I cannot believe they’re still forcing Cole Young into this franchise. It’s like they didn’t learn anything from the Resident Evil movies with Alice. Nobody asked for a made-up character to be the center of the story while the real fan favorites are pushed to the side. Liu Kang, Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Johnny Cage—these are the fighters people care about. But no, here comes Cole again with his dragon birthmark and “chosen one” story arc that feels like it was written on a napkin.

He adds nothing. He’s not interesting. He doesn’t even have a signature move that stands out. At least Alice in Resident Evil had powers and some personality, even if she didn’t belong. Cole is just... there. It feels disrespectful to longtime Mortal Kombat fans who waited years to see the real tournament on screen, only to have some generic guy steal screen time.

This isn’t a personal attack on Lewis Tan. It’s the writers and producers who keep treating Cole like he’s the main character in a game he was never part of. Stop trying to make Cole happen. He’s not it.

The fake movie trailer actually made me laugh, though. I thought it was real at first, then I realized it was too low-budget even for YouTube. Karl Urban chewing up the screen like it’s steak? That’s the kind of silly Mortal Kombat needs.

I really like the direction they’re going with Johnny Cage as the main hero. In the games, he’s usually comic relief, but this time it feels like they’re giving him more depth. Karl Urban is a good choice. He knows how to mix comedy and action without making it feel forced. I also appreciate that they’re not afraid to change some things, like making Jade bald. It’s different, but it tells me the filmmakers are not just copying the games. They’re trying to build a fresh version. I respect that. Also, thank you for giving us the actual tournament this time. That was the biggest thing missing in the first one. We waited four years, but this trailer gives me hope. The visuals look better, the locations feel more magical, and Sub-Zero being back makes things more serious. I just hope the story doesn't become too chaotic with so many characters and realms.
