Explore Michael Schwartz’s journey from screenwriter to comic creator in his debut book ARMORED, launching May 2024. Michael Schwartz has a history in feature animation and screenwriting, but has now created his first comic book, ARMORED published by Clover Press. After a successful Kickstarter campaign, the book will now be released to the public in May 2024. We got a chance to talk to Schwartz about the history of the project and the learning curve of bringing your first comic book to life. Adam Pope: Your new comic ARMORED is coming out in April. Can you explain the premise of the story for those who may not have heard about it yet? Michael Schwartz: It’s a story about a young orphan teen named Andy Taylor. He’s adopted by this nice couple, but they’re a little strange because two years prior their son died under very mysterious circumstances. Andy is also an interesting orphan in that his parents disappeared under mysterious circumstance and the police don’t know what happened to them.

Hoping he gets the funding needed to make this project immense. It already reached the $1,750 goal and currently at $12,839 but there are more stretch goals to achieve.

He seems like a cool guy with his new comic ARMORED, huh? I dig the whole premise of a kid stumbling onto ancient armor with a haunted backstory. It's like those old-school adventure flicks meets spooky ghost stories. Can't wait to see how Andy deals with both his personal mystery and the knightly spirit inside that suit. Plus, the horror angle adds a nice twist, don't you think? It's like Schwartz is serving up a buffet of genres for us to feast on. And hey, getting insight into his inspirations, like Stan Lee and Geoff Johns, adds some depth to the story's roots. Who knows, maybe ARMORED will be the next big thing in comics!

Schwartz's transition from screenwriting to comics is really cool, don't you think? It's as if he's taking the scenic path through storytelling, experimenting with many mediums along the way. I completely understand his enthusiasm for comics and want to create something from scratch. It's great to hear someone discuss their creative process without all the fancy language, just pure passion for the profession. And what a challenge it was for him to find the perfect publisher and cover artists? That is some serious talk right there. But, hey, perseverance does pay off, right? I can't wait to get my hands on ARMORED and explore Andy's world of mystery and magic.

.I admire how he's used his knowledge in visual effects to engage with artists and bring his vision to reality. And his passion to understanding comic book structure and examining the work of masters such as Geoff Johns demonstrates his desire to improve his art. It's as if he's building a bridge between realms, combining elements of adventure, mystery, and horror to create a gripping story.

Schwartz's switch from screenwriting to comic book production is like an incredible experience across unknown land, isn't it? It's intriguing to learn about his creative process and the hurdles he's encountered along the way. I respect his effort and passion to realizing his vision, from understanding comic book structure to working with artists to bring his characters to life. And the fact that he is drawing inspiration from giants such as Stan Lee and Geoff Johns demonstrates his genuine appreciation for the craft. ARMORED seems like an epic adventure, combining themes of mystery, horror, and fantasy to create a fascinating story. I can't wait to follow Andy on his adventure and see where the story leads us!
