Well doesn’t this just look like fun? Mecho Wars, the top-down strategy RPG by Oyaji Games, will be releasing on the PlayStation Store tomorrow. For those of you that don’t know, Mecho Wars is a PlayStation mini port of the 2009 iOS game and 2010 PC of the same name. As you can see, in Mecho Wars, you command your squad to take down the opposing squad, similar to Advance Wars. Just looking at the trailer for this game has me excited.
I like how the game switches from the one unit that you control during your movement phase to multiple units in the combat phase. The damage in this game is based on a percentage system. Each hit that your unit lands on an enemy takes a percentage of their total health away, and once their health is at 0, that unit is destroyed.
One thing that they didn’t focus upon, and I wish they had, in the trailer is how the environment can change the outcome of the battle. For each turn that passes, an hour goes by. As the hours go by, day changes into night and at night, the water freezes, allowing players access to a once inaccessible part of the map.
Mecho Wars seems to be a refreshing return to the old-school top-down RPG genre of old and I can’t wait to pick this up on the PlayStation Store tomorrow.
Mecho Wars will be available for $5.99 for regular users or FREE for PS+ users; be warned though, when your membership runs out, any free game offered through PS+ becomes locked until you renew your membership.
