Yeah, Go Nagai's Dynamic Productions had a fit, so the idea was shelved and the Boozoku ended up piloting just that vaguely anime-esque looking mecha instead.
Which didn't matter, because it was funnier that the Boozoku made their robot from parts of a TV-Land type of magazine, anyway.
