MARVEL vs. CAPCOM Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics, Is this a sign Marvel and Capcom will work together again?

This MvC collection is bringing back some serious memories! My brother and I used to spend hours huddled around the TV at home, controllers in hand, battling it out in Marvel Super Heroes. He'd always main Captain America, that shield throw was his bread and butter. Me? Iron Man, all the way.

This announcement is awesome! It's like a time capsule for classic Marvel vs. Capcom. Back in the day, these games were the pinnacle of cool for me and my friends. We'd gather around the TV, trashtalking each other with every move. Learning combos, mastering characters – it was an obsession! Now, I get to share that same experience with my own kid. We can explore these iconic games together, him with fresh eyes and me reliving all the nostalgia. Maybe I can teach him my secret weapon in X-Men: Children of the Atom . Then Imagine how crazy I got with X-men vs Street Fighter.

Look, I gotta be honest – a classic MvC collection is a nice gesture, but where's the sequel that throws us into the future, not the past? Don't get me wrong, I spent countless quarters mastering Wolverine combos in X-Men vs. Street Fighter back in the day. Those memories are golden. But after the whole Infinite debacle, with the X-Men left out in the cold, this collection feels a bit…incomplete.

I want a brand new Marvel vs. Capcom that throws everything we love about the franchise into a glorious pot and stirs it up with fresh ideas. Think about it: the X-Men back in the ring, ready to unleash hell alongside all our favorite heroes and villains. New stages inspired by recent comics, a fighting engine that takes advantage of the latest tech, and online battles so smooth they'd make Professor X himself jealous.

This collection is a cool idea, but it's like offering pizza with only half the toppings. I'm ready for a full-fledged Marvel vs. Capcom feast, one that celebrates the X-Men's return and proves the franchise is still a knockout. Capcom, the ball's in your court. Don't just rehash the classics, evolve them and give us a sequel that puts the "versus" back in Marvel vs. Capcom!

As a kid, I was absolutely fascinated by the Apocalypse boss fights in X-Men vs. Street Fighter and Marvel Superheroes vs. Street Fighter. Seeing Apocalypse towering over the cliff, with only his upper body vulnerable to attack, made for an intense and strategic battle. It felt like a monumental challenge to take down such a formidable opponent.

However, now as an adult looking back, I can't help but chuckle at the mechanics of those fights. It's a bit comical to think that you could defeat Apocalypse by precisely targeting his exposed areas, like his face, shoulders, and chest. Given his stature and power, it's almost like trying to bring down a giant by attacking specific weak points.

If you're mostly into the MCU movies and haven't really read the comics, playing The Punisher game might throw you off a bit. You'll see Nick Fury as white in the game, which is a total switch-up from Samuel L. Jackson's version in the movies that we all know and love.

In the comics and older adaptations, Nick Fury was originally white, so it's not totally out of left field. But for MCU fans, it's definitely a different look. It's interesting to see how characters can be interpreted differently across comics and movies. So, if you're diving into The Punisher game, just keep in mind there's a whole history of Marvel adaptations out there beyond the big screen!
