What Am I made for?
In “Maria”, Angelina Jolie plays Maria Callas. The release dates for this film are; Theaters in the USA, November 2024; streaming on Netflix, December 2024; and Theaters in the UK, January 2025. Angelina Jolie is an accomplished American actress known for her stellar performances and specifically for her portrayals of several real historical figures. She played Cornelia Wallace, the second wife of Alabama, in the 1997 movie “George Wallace”. Jolie’s portrayal of Gia Carangi, America’s first supermodel, who died at the age of 26 due to AIDS-related complications, won her a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress in the film “Gia” (1998). In the 2007 film “A Mighty Heart”, she was very convincing as Mariane Pearl, the wife of Daniel Pearl, who was kidnapped and murdered by Islamic extremists while reporting in Pakistan for The Wall Street Journal. As Christine Collins in “Changeling” (2008), a movie based on the true story, she moved the hearts of the viewing audience playing the mother of a boy who went missing in 1920s Los Angeles, who died searching for her son. Now Angelina Jolie has become Maria Callas. If you were preparing a list of opera singers described as the “Masters”, or the […]

Intrigued! Jolie's tackled some powerful women before, so I'm curious to see her take on Callas. "La Divina's" life was fascinating - the highs of her career, the struggles...it'll be interesting to see how the film portrays her final days.

I am genuinely excited for Angelina Jolie’s portrayal of Maria Callas! Jolie has an incredible ability to bring historical figures to life, and I can't wait to see how she embodies Callas's complex persona. The locations chosen for the film—Budapest, Paris, Greece, and Milan—add an extra layer of beauty and intrigue. I have always found Callas's story fascinating, and to see it told on screen with such talent is thrilling. I wonder how they will capture her struggles and triumphs as an artist. I hope the film does justice to her legacy and explores the emotional depth of her life and career. This is definitely a movie I’ll be watching in theaters next month.

While I appreciate Angelina Jolie’s talent, I’m not sure about the choice to make a film about Maria Callas. Callas was a monumental figure in opera, but I fear this might turn into another overly dramatized biopic that focuses more on the sensational aspects of her life rather than her artistry. It seems that films like this often gloss over the complexities of their subjects, opting instead for a narrative that fits a specific mold. I hope I’m wrong and that "Maria" delivers a more nuanced portrayal. The locations sound stunning, but I’m not convinced that it will capture the essence of Callas’s talent and impact on the opera world.

Jolie + Netflix? Count me in! I might need some subtitles for the opera parts, but hey, learning is cool, right? Plus, Paris in the 70s sounds like a total vibe. This could be a great movie for a cozy night in.

Didn't know much about Callas before this, but the trailer sold me. Jolie looks amazing, and the cinematography is stunning. Plus, the drama and the music - this feels like an award-worthy kind of film. Definitely adding it to my watchlist!

Hmmm...Jolie is talented, but can she sing opera? The locations sound lovely, but I hope the film doesn't get bogged down in travelogue territory. The story of Callas's final days could be powerful, but the execution will make or break the movie. Let's see if it lives up to the hype.

I don’t know much about Maria Callas, but the film sounds interesting! Angelina Jolie is always a treat to watch, and I think she’ll do a great job. The locations mentioned make it sound beautiful, which is a plus for me. I usually enjoy biographical films that delve into the lives of historical figures, especially when there’s a bit of drama involved. I might not rush to see it in theaters, but I’ll definitely check it out when it hits Netflix. The trailer might help me decide if I want to watch it sooner!

It’s intriguing to see Angelina Jolie take on the role of Maria Callas. However, I have mixed feelings about the film's potential. Biopics often struggle to balance the true essence of their subjects with the dramatic narratives that appeal to wider audiences. Callas’s life is filled with complexities, and I hope the filmmakers prioritize authenticity over sensationalism. The beauty of the filming locations might overshadow the substance of her story. I would love to see a portrayal that invites audiences to reflect on the legacy of Callas beyond just her dramatic life events.

I am really looking forward to "Maria"! Angelina Jolie's dedication to her roles is always inspiring, and I believe she will bring something special to the character of Maria Callas. I’m fascinated by Callas’s life—her struggles and her incredible talent. It’s refreshing to see films about strong female figures in history. The fact that it will be set in such beautiful locations adds to my excitement. I hope the film captures both the brilliance of her voice and the emotional depth of her experiences. It feels like a film that could resonate with many people, not just opera lovers.
