Anime Expo starts tomorrow! Manga publisher Kodansha has a lot of panels scheduled for the next four days, as well as what they claim is their “BIGGEST BOOTH EVER” featuring The Ghost in the Shell and Gachiakuta. – two manga the company distributes that will be getting new anime adaptions soon. Both those properties have panels this year, Gachiakuta‘s on Thursday, July 3 at 4:15 PM and Ghost in the Shell‘s at 5:15 following it. Creators Kei Urana and Hideyoshi Andou will be present at the Gachiakuta panel, which will feature a live drawing, a Q&A session and other highlights. Guests of the Ghost in the Shell panel will include members of the production team at Science SARU, who are currently at work on the new anime adaption set to hit in 2026. Other panels include a celebration of creative team Peach-Pit’s 25th anniversary, a panel on how to organize your own anime club and a look at Kodansha’s future (expect some new announcements at this last one). I’m very interested in the Gachiakuta anime adaptation. I’ve been following the manga since its early chapters, and it has a unique visual identity that I always thought would translate well into animation. Seeing that Hideyoshi Andou, the graffiti designer, is involved in both the manga and anime gives me hope that the aesthetic won’t be lost in transition. Live drawings are always cool, but what I’m looking forward to most is hearing them talk about the inspirations behind their work. Sometimes those Q&A sessions reveal surprising details, like the reasoning behind certain character designs or story arcs. As for the US premiere of two episodes, I’m a little jealous of those who can attend in person. It’s also good to know that Bones is producing the anime, which gives me confidence in the animation quality. This is a project I’ll definitely keep my eyes on. I also hope they announce a physical release or streaming partner soon.

This is amazing! I didn’t know Ghost in the Shell was getting another anime, and Science SARU working on it? That’s all I needed to hear. I’ve watched everything they’ve made. Their animation style might give GitS a whole new life.

I feel old seeing Peach-Pit celebrating 25 years. I still have the first Shugo Chara! volumes I bought in high school. Rozen Maiden was also a big part of my early anime days. It’s great that Anime Expo is giving them a whole gallery space and not just a small panel. That shows respect. I hope they talk about what it was like creating manga during the 2000s boom and how things have changed since. Even if they don’t announce anything new, just seeing their old work get this much attention makes me happy.

What stood out most to me is the “Breaking into Manga Publishing” panel. I work in graphic design, but I’ve always wanted to shift into the manga or publishing world. Panels like this help make the process feel less like a mystery. It’s encouraging to hear that you don’t need to be a manga artist to get involved. People like marketing directors, editors, and translators all play a role, and I’m eager to learn how they built their careers. I think a lot of fans only think of the art and writing, but this industry also needs people who understand distribution, fan engagement, and book production. This kind of talk is super helpful for those of us who want to move from fan to professional.

I really like that they’re doing a panel about anime and manga clubs. I started one in my college a few years ago and it honestly helped me meet some of my closest friends. It’s not easy to keep everyone engaged, so getting advice from people who’ve worked with schools and libraries sounds helpful. I’ll try to watch that one online if they stream it.
