Kamen Rider: The First is a Disappointment

"Ultraman The Next" is actually one of my favorite superhero movies. I felt that the pacing was perfect, and really combined both Ultraman's fantastical elements with more grounded ones. It killed me when I heard it flopped, and we never got a sequel. But KRTF gets a sequel? UGH.

Let me see, if it had Shovelface, Jabob and the gaping mouth woman with no acting talent, this would be called Twilight Kamen Rider, and it would be successful over here.

Inoue pretty much became the Stephanie Meyer of Toku during the heyday of his career. Not just with First and Next, but also Kiva.

Except that Inoue at least has a few good shows/movies to his name. However, I cannot forgive him for these two films. And Kiva. And the second half of Hibiki. And Movie War Core.

So virtually everything toku-related he's done in the last eight years save for the Jetman tribute episode of Gokaiger.

THE FIRST & THE NEXT is what happens when writers too busy to violently reinvent Rider to the point it's at worst only marginally Rider get to write the actual, original thing.

As a result we get the most by-the-numbers Early-Heisei Kamen Rider trying to be Showa, failing at both.

I actually find THE FIRST to be enjoyable while THE NEXT was just bad. When I saw the first 10 minutes of THE NEXT, I thought I got trolled by TV-Nihon thinking its a horror film.
