It takes a lot to stand out in the crowded indie game scene these days. When we say a game has a “unique look,” that means a lot, and well…this one does. Of all the visual styles that are now out there, “medieval parchment” is not one we can say we’ve seen before.
That’s the setting for Inkulinati, the strategy battle game coming from Poland-based Yaza Games this winter. You are the hand drawing up an army on a 2D battlefield, making moves against rival Inkulinati for domination of the scroll. There is strategy not just in the placement of monsters and the moves you make them take, but in the art itself: if you draw too many of the same figure, the hand will get “bored” and produce a weaker army. We can’t describe it as effectively as the video below can — it’s just something you have to see for yourself.

This is exactly what we mean when we say that we want original, cutting-edge games. Absolutely purchasing this. Amazingly good! Such independent games preserve games as works of art rather than taking advantage of an oversaturated market.

The lovely artwork and exceptionally well-designed gameplay are perfect complements to the intriguing characters and unique gaming concepts that are featured in the game.

I remember seeing this game for the first time many years ago, and at the time, I honestly believed that it was already on the market. So, it looks like we have some more waiting to do.
