I have this problem with my DVD player, which is a Philips DVP5140. One of the things I liked about it when I bought it was that you can have a CD-R data disc of MP3s or AVI files and it will work on the player. Lately, I've gotten "codec is not supported" and similar sorts of error messages when trying to play some AVI files.
I e-mailed Philips, and they gave me some vague suggestions to download a codec bundle pack. They said to then burn the codec pack on a disc with the AVI file(s) and it will play...only it didn't. Maybe I did something wrong, I'm not sure. Basically, they made it sound that there might be a way to download a recent codec pack, burn it onto a disc, and install it onto the player, but didn't tell me the steps. They acted as if this was some under-the-table solution to the player's problem, and were just being vague about. I don't want to just guess at it, shoot in the dark, and risk screwing up my player.
Sooooo...is there even a way to somehow update the DVD player by doing that? Furthermore, is this post making sense to anyone? :laugh:
