Are you kidding? Iron Man is enjoyable, fun, but "safe" fodder for May or June, TDK is a cerebral masterpeice that challenges comic films to reach a little deeper. It does more to show DC really treat their characters with respect and don't rush anything out (where as Marvel don't and rush EVERYTHING out without thinking long-term how it could be improved on)

Marvel rush out more crap than they do any significantly memorable films in the long-run. Ironicly, all thier movies that people HATE (like Hulk and the directors cut of Daredevil) are their best stuff because they ARE a little deeper (a testiment to getting directors that actually gave a damn about the characters, not the budget or how cool the set-peices could be). I'd say it's only now with films like Iron Man and The Incredible Hulk that Marvel are finally taking their time with these movies and making them "accessible" whilst also giving them depth.

Haven't seen anyone say anything bad about Directors Cut Daredevil. And as far as Ang Lee's Hulk theres a difference between being deep and GRIM DARK. Iron Man was hardly deep and lacked motivational plot. To be fair that matches the Tony Stark character but doesn't make a great movie. Of course Poweranimals would think the safe fodder fun hero movie is better than the deep complex masterpiece. To each his own anyway.

Well, it IS a comic book movie, it should be fun over everything else. Comics aren't written to be literary masterpieces. I think their movie adaptations should be the same. There's a level of realism and drama that I'm o.k. with, but then there's overdoing it. I felt TDK over did it. I think a lot of people just want comic book movies to be similar to art-house films for the sole purpose of being able to say "See, it's for adults!" or something along those lines to make it appear as if they are less childlike or immature for liking comic books (not like people are childlike or immature for liking comic, but unfortunately that is a popular stereotype.)






Besides, the story was hardly "deep."

Mod stepping in here briefly, as I can see where this is headed. By all means, compare and contrast Iron Man and TDK. And talk about the differences and what you liked and didn't like. Do not insult each other, or the thread will go bye bye.

Go read a comic book sometime, because you obviously haven't in the past 25 years. 300 Was totally kid friendly (in b4 Cake Town), Same goes for V for Vendetta, 30 Days of Night, Road to Perdition, and Wanted. All of those are very kid friendly G Rated movies meant for kids. Guns, gore, and language are very kiddy subjects.

Do you see the error in your less informed post? Here let me clarify things for you with a few examples of literary masterpieces.

And TDK's plot was more deep than Iron Man's plot (which lacked many things).

I never mentioned anything about being "kid friendly," and you are coming off as if you're attacking me, so it would be in your best interest to stop as VG already stated. Oh, and just an FYI, I've been reading/collecting comic books for about 17 years and I own a little over 1800 books, so needless to say I think I know a thing or two about them. Just cause some rare gems like Watchmen or V for Vendetta or something as great as Y the Last Man come out once in a blue moon doesn't mean the genre itself is reflected by those books. You're picking a few stories out of the hundreds of thousands that have been written. You're gonna have to come up with A LOT more examples to support that argument. You're arguing against things I never even said. I never said Iron Man had a deeper plot than TDK, I just said it was more fun.
