If You Wanted Chloe To Return To Life Is Strange, It Appears You Got It

:Life Is Strange:Double Exposure came out for modern platforms in October of 2024. It was the first LiS to continue the original plotline, believe it or not — all other sequels have either been prequels or alternate worlds focused on other characters. You’d think fans would be finally happy, but not really…when they demanded the return of Max and Chloe, they meant both of them. In Double Exposure Max Caulfield was a few years older, attending college and decidedly without Chloe Price. Whether she was her best friend or her lover (you could decide this through a dialogue decision), you couldn’t change the fact that she wasn’t there and that Max had apparently parted ways with her. Double Exposure was different in other ways (Max’s powers were changed) but the lack of Chloe was the biggest detractor. Square says Double Exposure didn’t sell very well, but nothing sells well enough for Square anymore. They’re an unreliable narrator and they sold Tomb Raider to get money for NFTs so they’re nuts and not worth listening to. But sales might have actually spooked them into finally giving the audience what they want. According to a new filing by the European ratings board […]

I followed Life Is Strange since the first game, so I have mixed feelings. I liked Double Exposure for Max’s growth, but Chloe not being there always felt strange. Max without Chloe feels incomplete, even if they wanted to show distance or maturity. When I read about Reunion, I felt some relief, but also suspicion. Square has a habit of reacting late and pretending it was the plan all along. The summary sounds dramatic, but that is normal for this series. I do not mind another disaster countdown, as long as the emotions feel honest. I just hope Chloe is not reduced to fan service or a short cameo. If they bring her back, they need to face the choices from the first game, not erase them. I want real tension, guilt, and consequences. If Chloe and Max meet again, it should be awkward and painful, not instantly warm. I will wait for real footage before trusting this, but I am more interested now than I was before.

Glad to see Chloe back, because her absence was impossible to ignore. Double Exposure felt hollow even when parts of it worked. The emotional weight was lighter, and that is not why people play Life Is Strange. Reunion sounds heavy, dramatic, and very Chloe-focused, which is promising. Nightmares, guilt, and unfinished business suit her character. It also helps that Max is not positioned as the only one who needs saving. Both of them being in crisis feels more honest. Whether this was planned or not does not really matter anymore. Players asked for something, and now it seems to be coming. The real test will be how much time the game allows for quiet moments. If it slows down and lets conversations breathe, this could be the sequel many people expected years ago.

Relief is the main reaction here. Chloe was never just a side character, and pretending otherwise caused a lot of frustration. Reunion sounds like it understands that. The setup feels dramatic, but Life Is Strange has always leaned into drama. What really matters is tone. Chloe dealing with nightmares and memory issues could either be thoughtful or careless, depending on the writing. Trauma should feel personal, not decorative. The college setting works fine, and another disaster is expected at this point. As long as the story focuses on people instead of spectacle, this could work. Square’s business decisions are a separate issue. The story should stand on its own, regardless of corporate confusion.
