Have you seen PR and hate it, or do you just hate it because it is an adaption?
I hate it because it is an adaption. I want the uncut source material.
But yes, I have seen Power Rangers. I watched it as a kid from original MMPR all the way to the end of In Space. And I have given a lot of other more recent Power Rangers a chance, but only the point where I get a feel how different it's going to be.
I liked them too.
Thats what the "Metallic" Armor should have been....
Maybe I am getting my Power Rangers history wrong, so correct me if I am, however...
I think everyone noticed that the toys for the first Power Rangers movie were just reissues of previous figures only reflective and metallic looking instead of matching the suits in the movie. So later, after the movie, they introduced the armor upgrade in the TV show in an attempt to make the costumes match the figures. A very poor attempt, but an attempt none the less.
Also, I think McDonalds use to sell some MMPR The Movie toys. Those figures were movie-accurate.
Can't say I liked their Ninja Megazord though, damn that thing was FUGlY! If their goal was to make it look more realisic, they REALLY missed the mark.
Actually, I kind of thought that was the point. I thought Power Rangers was suppose to be different from, though based off of, it's Sentai counterparts. So anything they can do to make things unique and their own thing, as in changing the look of the Megazord, then they would want to do it.
Lastly, when it comes to the argument about CGI, I will say that CGI has been getting better and better. And it seems to blend in better when you are watching the movie in theaters. I saw a movie that was probably very heavy CGI once, but because it was an old school drive-in theater, I honestly hard the hardest time telling what was real and what was CGI. Personally, I think it's all about the balance. Once we can use giant model, suit actors, shooting on location, and top of the line CGI where necessary, we'll be on our way to making a movie with THE greatest effects ever.
