How would you feel if Saban adapted Justiriser?

If Saban makes more adaptions of other properties, I would die a little more inside. I always die a little more inside whenever I see new adaptions, but even so... I only wonder if the fan reaction would be positive or negative. No one seems to care how faithful an adaption Power Rangers is each year, but with Masked Rider, there was a HEAVY negative reaction. One of which I didn't even know about before the internet came along in my life. Funny thing is, when I was that young and loved Power Rangers, I loved Masked Rider just as much!

Looking back on it now, yes, it is dorky and stupid even on its own. I must have been an easily persuaded kid. Heck, I even liked VR Troopers and Beetleborgs, so... There you go.

The thing to keep in mind with LP and Toho is that LP had been in negotation with Toho about a Godzilla reboot since 2007. Brian Rodgers said it took alot of talking to convince Toho to let another American company do a Godzilla movie again. I am not sure excetly, but I heard Toho is not fond of adapations similar to Power Rangers. It's more likely we would see the Star God (I liked all three and thought they blow the recent sentai's out of the water even Gekiranger.) shows dubbed on T.V. then adapated.

That's right. Toho had to be convinced that the new Godzilla movie would be done with care and respect. Tokusatsu needs more care and respect.

I hope I live long enough to see that happen. I really do. I've always believed Tokusatsu deserves better than just adaptions. Adaptions have always made me as angry as people who hated the 4Kids version of One Piece. I know it's not very marketable to do it that way with toku, but if it were to actually happen and become a success, then that would be like the dawn of a new age. It would be a sign that shows Tokusatsu has reached a level of popularity and recognition THAT high. But maybe that's just wishful thinking on my part...

Toho must have some really smart people working for them if they are scared of adaptions. I'd like to believe Tsuburaya is just as smart, but then again, they let Super Human Samurai Syber Squad slip by them... :disappoin

In its current form ,respect isn't what i'd give it. It needs to look back at itself and acknowledge its past , perhaps even showering in it and be prideful of that. Plus, it needs to get rid of the rampant commercialism that is entrenching into it or atleast keep it at arms bay. In the older series it was more story-driven than now but few exceptions are there. It needs to break the mold also while innovate into newer forms and soak in other cultures as they have done a theme or two too many times . Diversity is key.

Generally ,Tokusatsu needs its own Batman Begins or Watchmen to reinvigorate it.

...You strike me as the kind of person who would prefer something like the original Kamen Rider series or maybe the original Himitsu Sentai GoRanger series to be dubbed and aired on TV. Not that any of that is a bad thing, but but modern audiences might not care for the vintage shows. Other then that, I think the only thing closest to what you are saying that we'll actually get is movies like Kamen Rider THE FIRST/THE NEXT and Ultraman the Next. I dunno, maybe I am wrong. However, I do kind of wish Toei would make a movie like this for GoRanger. That would be awesome.

That's because a lot of people aren't looking for a white-washed Sentai (wouldn't that be worse than what's being done now?) they're looking for something new to be done with the footage. As far as fans go, it's like having two shows in one, you can see themes and junk used in new ways with different characters and it really pays off at times.

Correct guess. I love the older shows , but I recognize that many audiences might not like them and that's fine by me. Everybody has their own preferences. The First was amazing but i deplored how it attempted to be Batman Begins with it and realistic and i wish they put more effort into the enemy kaijin by making them more like the original monstrous cyborgs then the final result. My concept is a modern day international retelling of the Masked Rider mythos that i want to get published as a book or made into film ala the Hulk film. Goranger has this flair ,though i only seen the crossover, that felt more like a Black-Ops Power Ranger series or the Avengers.

Adaptations are great and show respect to the material as they use it to tell its story, but its not respectful when it doesn't acknowledge its origins much like Power Rangers did for a while. Disney in that matter did the first step by littering their series with homages and or references, though they could've just done their own thing than directly adapt, but that's all over with anyways.

Overall in Disney's defense , their series had the right set ups and most of them passed in my opinion in exception to the last halves of SPD , Mystic Force and QQ and Jungle Fury where it was a rip plus they kept the franchise alive. Sure they their faults , but Saban had alot more along with the fact that Disney only owned it for 7 years compared to the 10 years Saban did. And that's not factoring in the fact Disney had more racially diverse rangers than in Saban's long run.

I sincerely hope Saban diversifies the cast for the next adaptation for the little children of color , especially Asians, that barely have any content with them in equal representation to whites besides overseas. I don't mean there shouldn't be any white leads but in general it needs to be switched up to keep it fresh as Saban intends along with facing competition from great properties such as Avatar.

An adaptation basically needs to break away and make homage/respect to its source.

I think I hear what you are saying. I remember reading a little, not a lot, of a scanlation of a Kamen Rider manga (Spirits, I believe it was called). From what I recall, the story was retelling the origins of Kamen Rider #1, and it was taking place in America! Something like that could easily be turned into a great movie that retells the Kamen Rider mythos in a modern way that an international audience could get behind.

[HIDE]I am not sure if Toei would want to work with whoever is making such a movie, but it would so be awesome if they taught Fujioka Hiroshi English and had him reprise his role of Kamen Rider #1/Hongo Takeshi. Wishful thinking, I know. They'd definitely hire something else... Still, how awesome would that be? :anime:[/HIDE]

I know that. :sly:

I agree. It should be more about the story than the action. The story is solid, yet flexible, so why replace it with a Hollywood-type love story that gets replaced by another Hollywood-type love story in the sequel? Batman Begins was a fresh start that had a great amount of thought into it. It's not just a Batman movie for the hell of it; it's the foundation of a new era of Batman movies. It brings back the darkness instead of the sillyness. Kamen Rider was more than a guy fighting a monster for one person. He was fighting for justice and he fought to protect everyone. I think we should've seen that in the movies. They were heavily influenced by American movies that were popular a long time ago. The formula just doesn't work as well as it used to work. All adaptations need respect for the original work.

We're moving forward. Kamen Rider Dragon Knight made an impact on how many Americans view tokusatsu, and Toho has allowed Legendary Pictures to work on Godzilla. People in America know that Godzilla exists, but they think of it as a toy smashing miniatures or something like that. Tokusatsu is moving forward enough that many are wanting the originals more than the adaptations. I think we'll reach a point one day in which adaptations are done right.

Kamen Rider can be adapted well into English if it's done well.

Fujioka Hiroshi as Kamen Rider would be awesome, but so many years have passed.

Fujioka Hiroshi as Kamen Rider would be awesome, but so many years have passed.

Kamen Rider in the original concept is in of itself a blueprint for a future American Kamen Rider since he's like Batman and Spiderman rolled into one.

The originals are good as well as the adaptations and we know how hard it can be to adapt franchises or even anime . You need to keep the basic context of the series along with making it open for anyone to like and that's a bitch to do.But for series that have it all laid out it's much easier and has almost no room for error. You can't have it perfect but trying the best to make new out f old footage or material is a start along with respect.

To be fair to Tsuburaya, that's the only time an adaptation they allowed. They are not fond of it. When Power Rangers came out, there were companies that wanted to adapt their old Ultra shows but they said no and instead one company offered to make their own instead which we got Ultraman the Ultamate hero. Sadly, the company did not have the buget to make decent fight scenes even though the suits were well designed. Also, I read somewhere recently a company offered to adapt Ultraman Mebius but Tsuburya again declined.
