How will Hollywood's superhero movies affect Tokusatsu in the next decade?

Gatchaman's outside scenes were nice, but not visually spectacular like say Bayformers or Avengers. And it had too many indoor, cramped scenes.

I don't think Japan is even a huge market for foreign films. Most MCU films release in Japan very late and are an afterthought on numbers.

Spider-Man is really popular in Japan though, as The Amazing Spider-Man was released the earliest in the world back then. Iron Man is also another popular superhero there to a point where they even joked that if you want to ask a girl out, just tell her "Let's go and watch Spider-Man/Iron Man!"

I think there's already some influence. The stronger focus on tie in videos and features this year, like all the extra Drive videos, alongside the tv special, SHTGP and KR4 all tied to each other might be inspired by the Marvel Cinematic Universe system. SHTGP even had a post-credit scene.

The other effect is probably the lower box office numbers we're seeing for toku movies in general. I'd guess that more super hero movies during the entire year are hurting their numbers, even if those super hero movies don't really perform that well in Japan.

Something following the mold for Avengers is pretty much impossible if Toei doesn't change how they produce their movies and give them more production time, which likely isn't happening. It's pretty obvious in these Taisen movies that are bringing back past actors that they can't even get all of them on set together.

For example, Fujioka in KRT only had one scene with Kouta's actor, otherwise he only appeared by himself. Haruto's actor also was only on set for the scene with X and Faiz. X himself was only on set for scenes with Faiz and that one with Wizard too. Shotaro's actor was only on set with Decade's and Kaito's actors (they even make him pop up already transformed as Joker in the one scene where he needed to talk with Kouta). Same thing happens in SHTGP too. Yuuto's actor and Rider 3 appear alongside almost everyone, but Tachibana's and Takumi's actors are never on set with Tomari's, meanwhile Kotaro(Black/RX) only appears by himself or with Tomari. Now, remember that the script likely has to be written or rewritten considering these schedules...

I really hope these comic book superhero movies will force Toku producers to step up on their game and put more efforts and budgets on producing their shows and movies. A well directed crossover with visual effects on par with Kikaider and Gatchaman will be great
