Hades II Is Half-Out

There are shortage of games for the roguelike genre these days, but out of the millions of options, Supergiant Games’ Hades is definitely one of the most popular. Introduced in 2020, this tale of the prince of the Greek underworld battling a pantheon of beasts and gods won countless fans and had people begging for a sequel nearly instantly. Four years later, Hades II is finally here….sort of. Technically, the original Hades was playable all the way back in 2018 if you count the Early Access version. Since most people consider the release of the full version — and the console version — the actual release date, it’s reported instead that Hades came out in 2020. It’s a similar deal here. They’ll tell you Hades II is out, but it’s just in Early Access, which is kind of different. The game is unfinished: effects are missing, some character portraits aren’t there, and the game currently has no ending. (We’re told New Game+ is accessible regardless.) There is also no console

Early Access for Hades II? Not ideal, but I get it. At least it's a chance to dive into the new content early. Missing effects and characters? Minor details compared to getting my hands on the sequel. No console version yet? A bummer, but I can dust off the ol' Steam Deck. 2025 for the full release? A long wait, but hopefully, it'll be worth it for a polished experience. This is a win for some FOMO-driven gamers like myself, but I understand if others prefer to wait for the complete package.

Hades II in Early Access? Sounds like a cash grab to me. Supergiant is better than this! An unfinished game with a 9/10 review? Something fishy is going on here. Maybe reviewers are just excited for anything Hades related. I'll wait for the full release reviews before I consider this. Being stuck on PC for now is just another annoyance. 2025 release? By then, the hype will likely be dead. Not a good move, Supergiant.

Let's see how the price compares to the full release before I jump in. Missing features might make the Early Access feel overpriced. No console version yet? Saves me money for now, but I might have to double-dip later. Full release in 2025? Hopefully, there won't be a hefty price increase between Early Access and the full game. This is a strategic move, but for budget-conscious gamers like me, waiting for the full package at the best price point might be the smartest option.
