Grace Ashcroft Is the New Face of Horror

It’s about time! I’ve been waiting years for Capcom to bring back a proper female lead in a main title. Jill was the last one we had in Resident Evil 3 — and that was 1999! Rebecca in Zero was cool too, but since then it’s been mostly guys saving the day while women show up as support or extra content. Grace being the main character again finally breaks that pattern. It’s not just refreshing — it feels earned. Ada, Claire, Sheva, Helena — all amazing, but usually they’re second to a man or locked behind DLC. Grace finally changes that. She’s the main character. Not a bonus. Not a side story. I hope this opens the door for more complex female protagonists in horror.

I’ve been a Resident Evil fan since PS1 days, but I’m really tired of the Leon worship. He’s cool, yes, but people act like the series will collapse without him. Come on. He’s been the lead so many times already. Grace Ashcroft brings something fresh. She’s not bulletproof. She panics. She cries. That’s more interesting than another smug one-liner after a headshot. Let someone else be scared for once. Leon stans always acting like they’re starving when they’re feasting. Jill fans have been patient. We’ve been ignored, sidelined, and given the weakest content in mainline entries. I love Grace already. She’s giving us the fear and fragility we haven’t seen since Jill in the original Spencer Mansion. But unlike Leon, Jill fans didn’t get any worldwide “justice.” We got crumbs.

Yeah, Jill was one of the OGs. One of the first. She set the tone for the whole franchise. Yet she’s been mistreated again and again. We got a short game in 2020 and haven’t heard a word since. But the second Leon doesn’t headline a new game, his fans start a riot. Pathetic. It’s Grace’s turn. Deal with it.

I’m honestly so excited right now. As someone who grew up loving survival horror, this is such a special time. We’re finally getting two major horror franchises — Silent Hill and Resident Evil — both bringing back female leads at the same time? It feels like the genre is returning to its emotional roots.

I love that Silent Hill f is focused on a girl with vulnerability and mystery, and now Resident Evil Requiem is giving us Grace Ashcroft, who clearly isn’t a fighter but someone just trying to survive something terrifying. That’s what made survival horror powerful in the first place — not the combat, but the fear and emotion. I’m so glad we’re going back to that.

Grace screams at a bucket? SOLD. This is exactly what I’ve been waiting for. Vulnerable, untrained, probably has anxiety? That’s me in every horror game. I’m already throwing my wallet at the screen. Leon fans can cry all they want, but we’ve had enough of superhero agents who walk through bio-disasters like it’s a Tuesday meeting. Give me someone who’s not ready. Someone who reacts like a human, not a Hollywood script. If this game delivers the fear it promises, Capcom — just take my money. No questions asked.
