FWIW, I brought one of my cats in for booster shots yesterday, and my vet said while it *is* human-transmissible, you really have to come in direct contact with an infected cat to have any significant chance of passing on the virus. The best thing to do other than keeping your cats indoors is to make sure you wash your hands, etc. after coming in contact with any other cats. He also said that Calici is part of the feline distemper vaccine and that they would likely be getting an updated shot soon.

This is all true. But the virus is very hardy and can live in the environment for a while, thats why I mentioned to use caution when in a cat environment.

Also, if you cat has already had the RCP booster, just ask your veterinarian for the Calici booster. It is now included in the RCP but earlier this year it was not. Most clinics should be carrying the single Calici booster for those patients who already received their RCP this year before the new Calici was added.

Oh, trust me, as soon as it's available, I will be getting my cats immunized. But at this point, the vaccine hasn't gotten wide distribution yet... at least, the pharmaceutical reps haven't gotten out to western MA to sell it yet. Blarg.

Yea we just got it ourselves almost a month ago.
