For or Against Adaptations?

Yeah, I guess we will - although I'd like to point not *every* series is "exactly" the same. They all may draw from the same well of archetypes and themes and so there will be repetition as years go by... but if I remember correctly there is a variance in the tone and direction of each season... some are funnier, some are darker, etc
I realize they're not exactly the same every year. But it's not different enough to justify wiping the slate clean and dropping the audience in another new universe. It's just wasteful in my opinion. What incentive do I have to watch a show as formulaic as Sentai when ultimately the characters and their world i'm supposed to have an emotional investment in disappear into the ether?

but aren't they all different shows now with just "power rangers" in the title? I'm going to have to beg some forgiveness for my ignorance, since I'm not expert here (especially in the later seasons of PR)... furthermore, how are characters being developed in the story when even MMPR/Zeo/Turbo began to rapidly shift through cast members for one reason or another?
Lightspeed Rescue - Wildforce as well as SPD - JF all tried to be seasons that existed in their own world except for team ups, like their Sentai counterpart. Coincidentally, they're also terrible. MMPR-LG did have cast changes, but it was gradual. They'd ditch some characters, gain some new ones. It's a good system, I think.

Could you enlighten me here? Did Greg do anything to anyone other then the Chief? Again, I really stopped watching PR after parts of NS and DT...
They repurposed the Deka Swan character into the Female Cat anthro "Kat Manx." In an interview with Greg he said in the end they built 50 original alien suits (constructed mainly from cannibalizing monster suits from previous seasons in storage that would have otherwise been sent to the shredder, and stuff from his personal collection) that were used throughout the season. He even paid out of pocket to build Isinia, Cruger's long lost wife, for the finale.

I guess I would say what would be the incentive to be invested in any of these characters finding the "real ultimate power" to defeat evil empire x, when you know come next season they'll just do it again... maybe or maybe not with the same cast... and then it likely depends on how the budget people feel about paying the actor's salaries...? Like you said, this is where we're really going to have to agree to disagree. For me, I'd probably deck Zordon by the time you got to Turbo and he's showing us the third "secret super weapon" we should've gotten the first time our powers broke.

EDIT: And let's not forget the ultimate problem here - it's a kid show, funded by toy companies. Kids get bored, and toy companies want to make money. We can't forget that this is the driving force behind all of it - Sentai and PR. That's the nature of business.

Now see, I think that's cool. I really would like to see more of this ingenuity and inventiveness on the parts of the American producers. I think making your own stuff whole cloth would be a great way to go... or at least "buying" Toei's help for more Zyu2 style projects would be beneficial to all.

Agreed. PR without any Sentai footage is just vomitory. I loved having the Zyu2 footage aswell, although Hiroshi Maeda NOT doing the Red Ranger suit acting pissed me off big time.

See many Disney seasons. Man If the used Gou's premiere fight from Gekiranger, in Jungle Fury. I fuckin Guarantee you, that epsiode's ratings would of sky rocketed.

Dare I say It, If RPM used some Go-onger Fight scenes, I would of loved It.

against. Adapting a series makes no sense. Its just something americans do because they dont like anything that isnt done in their way.

A part of me wants to agree with this, I don't know why.

But It's sorta snobby.

Nothing against you jetto, It just comes off that way.

While I don't agree that's the whole picture because it obviously is not, I can't help but feel there is at least some greater or lesser element of hubris to the whole adaptation thing and that's probably something else that puts me off about them.

You know this when it comes to this adaptation thing I believe that in a way we should all be for it. This is because we always adapt somethng from somewhere, the movies you and I watch and sometimes enjoy were most likely adapted from some other source. Also I'm sure this isn't something just us Americans do I bet they do it all over the world. My point is that if your not for adaption then you shouldn't be watching anything that was based on a previous source.
