FF XI to die this year, XIV to take over.

It looks that way...

During a SE Recruiting seminar, A presenter was quoted as say that The server's for FF XI would all be shut down this year so they could shift focus to FF XIV.

To add some fuel to the fire, the post AND the site this was posted on where taken down within hours.

SE has previously said it would give the FF XI community one year's notice to when they would pull the plug, but it seems they will got dark alot sooner.

I played FF XI for the longest time (2004-2007), and i will morn it's passing. But i am looking forward to playing XIV!

I'm pretty sure that's only referring to development on FFXI, no new expansions. Especially considering the whole VanaFest 2010 promotion they having going on for FFXI in Tokyo. All of which is revolving around the 8 year anniversary of FFXI, not on FFXIV

I was just at SE's LA office yesterday picking up Star Ocean TLH-Int- and didn't hear any mummers about shutting down the whole thing.

Square recently said they would be in trouble if they shut FF11 down when FF14 released. But that could just be press talk. In my opinion, I'd imagine they would try to continue running FF11, to continue receiving their monthly fees from the fans still clinging to it. But eventually they will have to shut it down to cut the cost of supporting the system and servers.

I have no question that it will eventually be shut down, but I think SE is going to give people a fair transition time. if they just kill the servers, it's going to piss off a lot of people who likely aren't going to migrate over due to it.
